No matter how often you get to post, I stop and watch!! I have a small sailer and live in some islands. No camping on the beach. Your boat is awesome and perfect design for me. Keep sailing!! Great sailing partner!!
Well worth the wait , Roger. Thank you so much for taking us to places that we will never get to in reality. This is the true meaning of the community of the Internet. gary in japan.
Can't help it, but for another comment. Roger, you and Mary are quite a team; I'm sure that Avel Dro is proud of your efforts! Thanks for sticking to your principles and the move to France. Rodney Vancouver Island (from Duncan, BC)
You inspired me recently to try to make and edit my own RUclips sailing video. It was pretty terrible, but it did give me an appreciation for the effort required to make them. The key word is appreciation. I am grateful (but also a bit jealous) to be able to share your sailing adventures, but especially so given the amount of work it takes. I look forward to a more leisurely approach in part 2. I looks like a very interesting place to take your time looking around.
Must be nice to have company and help! I just bought a sun hat with a chin strap that has a hidden bug net under the peak, just the thing for buggy days. I always enjoy your videos, music included, and look forward to part two in the Netherlands! Hello from the sunny San Juan Islands in Washington State.
Well, another great video from the master! Our whole family enjoys these so much. I look forward to part two and seeing the villages through the eyes of an architect. Thanks for the hard work you put into these. Looking forward to my second edition of the book. One of my daughters bought it for me for my birthday.
What a lovely area to cruise ! Hats off (literally) to Mary and her spirited assault on the flies and to you on making such a pleasant and relaxing video record of your journey
Thanks for this new video, Netherlands - Part 1, Pure armchair sailing enjoyment. You are a wonderful filmmaker, bringing great pleasure to your many viewers. Can’t wait for Part 2!
Please don't apologize for the infrequent videos! I don't mind waiting for the next one. The people who watch your videos I suspect are patient and forgiving. Fair winds!
We had a lovely week sailing around this area (Fluessen, Heegermere, Woudsend, Slotermeer) in 1991. It was nice to be reminded how wonderful this part of the Netherlands is - a truly wonderful cruising area for small boats.
What a way to celebrate my Country's Independence, watching the Avel Dro find her way to and from port... thanks Roger, I'm inspired continue finishing my project boat so I can finally take it out and experience the joy's of dinghy sailing
I'm building an Ilur in my spare time in my garden shed, Perth, Western Australia. 27months since I started, mast and spars and some final sanding and coats of epoxy left. It's all Rogers fault. His videos remind me not to loose heart! I'll definitely be having a summer afloat this year (fingers crossed).
@@AndyJarman I'm in the mast, oars, rudder and fresh coat phase of mine (small dinghy full of holes that I got in exchange for an afternoon's work cleaning up an old barn... they used it for .22 target practice... I hope this summer sees you finally on the water, Cheers from America!!!
I totally agree about the unexpected gifts. I very much look forward to your videos. I watch a lot of RUclips videos and many, if not most of them are fluff with the producers wanting to hear their own voices. 15 minutes of video watching someone open a cardboard box to show you their new purchase! Believe it on not, I can already open a box. Your videos are very thoughtfully produced and your choice of music is the absolute best. Most RUclipsrs stick in some noise, I won't even call it music and I usually turn those videos off immediately because I don't want to listen to the noise. For your videos, I keep my phone handy with Shazam at the ready so I can find out about the music you are using. Always tastefully done and greatly appreciated. I am always awaiting your next one! Gratefully waiting, and thank you.
Just had a knee operation, and I'm sitting here leg up watching this with an idiot grin on my face, a complete delight from beginning to end excellent lovely photography and editing. Many thanks.
I just love having you guys back and sailing again. A great lift to my spirits. I too, as a retired carpenter am interested in architecture, so very pleased to see the variations and amazing decorations displayed on Dutch buildings. Most of these buildings have survived occupations in war as well. Take care Roger.
Hi Rodger and Mary,😊 ,many thanks for taking us along on your adventure, the sailing looked perfect, apart from the flies, and the scenery was stunning. I look forward to part two, to see the rest of your voyage. Stay safe, best wishe's to you both, Stuart UK.
Live inland and never been in a boat with sails. Caught all of you videos over the last couple of years and enjoyed all of them. Closest port to me would be Galveston, Texas About 92 miles to the south. 🇺🇸🇨🇱👍
8 years ago I spent 2 weeks touring my parents’ birth country, and almost the whole time I wished I was in a boat instead of driving beside and over the amazing canal system. Thanks for another great video, including struggling with lines ( which I usually do)!
Thank You Roger for taking the time to document and share your sailing travels with all of us. And I will say this again…what a wonderful friend and sailing companion you have in Mary.
I guess you'll just have to sail more often :) Your videos are refreshing and mange to convey a true sailor's attitude. Also, you have convinced me to get small. I have bought a dinghy for cruising and am in the process of selling my 30 foot sloop, which spends 97% of its time tied to my dolphin poles. Thank you giving me another way of thinking.
Roger, it’s truly good to see you again. I know you better, through these precious videos, than you know me. You have given much of yourself, with the video narratives, that I feel like an old friend. You’re so kind and attentive to your favorite girl, Avel Dro. You also display remarkable patience and kindness with Ms. Mary. Since coming home from the wars, I have become a better man to my sweetheart too. You have been missed. Glad and thankful for this adventure, much appreciated. I wish you and your’s well. Jeff, from Kentucky. P.S. The pesky flies come out into the bay in swarm, females looking for a blood feed, before they lay their eggs. They are attracted to carbon dioxide, your heat and lactic acid on your skin. Sorry.
Hello friend Roger, it's a pleasure to be able to write to you, I'm from the city of Salta in the north of the Argentine Republic, I always watch your videos, very good, I really like your nautical adventure, here in my province we have a dam, an estuary, of 1800 km. approximately, very nice to navigate, I have a boat of 3 meters and a half. and 1 Mt. and a half of fiberglass and I converted it by copying the one you have, which I use a 3 hp yamaha motor. and I go sailing and enjoy the landscapes staying the night just like you, it's wonderful. I send you a big hug friend.
I have to agree your Videos are like "unexpected gifts" Vid production does take time so no need to apologise always a delight to watch and enjoy many times and back to back. It's so wet here in Brisbane on the other side of the world today this is a nice distraction
Its as if your whole spirit has been uplifted..pop music, the captain sporting mate Mary's punk shades, an upgraded vidcam which acts steady as if its on a fabulous kimble..more? yes! Your film quality..wow!! Its 5×'s more dramatic then earlier kit..so way to go! Ton of appreciation 🎈
How nice! We could have met there. Wouldn't believe my eyes if I saw you there. because I don't expect to see where I live. Hek always love to see your videos. thanks
Roger ! I’m totally amazed by your photography, showing charts n maps to tie together.. n the companionship n teamwork between you n Mary to keep this adventure n exploration interesting n informative bro. The locks, lunches n oooh yaaah flies n more (waves, rowing n sailing) show it’s a feat n challenge not just a Sunday drive in the country.. Thankz again as I continue to watch n enjoy this (hmm) one year old video trip. It’s awesome. Cheers 🥂 Nick.
Hey Roger, I just finished my introductory sailing course (cansail 1/2), at a local sailing club. I'm loving sailing and the community around it. It's already a great new chapter of my life - thanks to you!
Thanks so much from the sandpit that is the Middle East. I thoroughly enjoy your films and whilst I originally watched for the sailing I now find your passion for architecture and history just as interesting. Wonderful filming and never a dull moment, thanks again.
Roger, I must say seeing your unexpected but alway pleasant videos has been the reason for my recent acquisition of a Wayfarer and membership of the DCA. I don’t think I will make videos but I hope to make memories with my wife and young daughter.
Thanks so much for all the effort you put into these videos. I have recently purchased a 14 1/2 ft wooden Abaco sailing dinghy. Your videos are helping this novice sailor in so many ways. My day job has me traveling daily at 40,000 ft at 450 kts. I love the fact that I can “slow down” with your videos, and dream of when I can return to my new little dinghy at sea level and 5 kts!
wow what a trip. I lived in Muiden for four years after 10 years in Amsterdam. I sailed these waters with my dad and later paddled them by seakayak. Indeed, it is shallow and has a nasty type of wave we call 'grondzee'. It is when the waves want to get higher than the depth can support and all the energy goes to froth and foam and short unpredictable chop. Horrible. But indeed a very nice stomping ground, the towns are very special. Good of you to pass up Volendam that is the most touristy.. Nice to see you out there - awesome crew you got, and your GoPro is also very lucky.
Hi Roger, my wife and I have been there just about the same time, having started from Bremen, our home town. We could have met.... and we had few winds, too.....
Roger I started out in small home built boats and still have a few of the many i've built, I have since moved into plastic boats (currently a South Coast 22) though, but every time I watch one of your videos I have an uncontrollable urge to get out one of the small ones and set on on a long adventure.
Haven't watched yet, Roger in the Netherlands is always great! Thumbs up! Wadden? Zealand? Hey, Marken first? Then, you have all skipped a lot of interesting water... If you got some months time, you could enter the Netherlands south west near Antwerp and exit after a visit to Wadden island "Schier" north east. Have you been to Zealand before? And there is a route called "Standing Mast Route", connecting Zealand to the north, for sailing yachts that do not do the North Sea or the IJsselmeer or larger rivers. On this route, you only pass bridges that can and will open, half the year, that is. You can avoid Amsterdam, or see the famous city canals during the night, which is good fun. Downside of this route is, lots of miles motoring (or rowing, but who actually does that...), still, it includes lots of sailing. Well, you got the idea by now. Thanks for another good video. Have a Bon Noël and une Bonne Nouvelle Année au Petit Bateau à Voile. For nothing is as worthwile as messing about with small boats, right?
Thanks Roger, never be concerned about us the faithful. Your films are fascinating, and I enjoy them when you have time. I know very, very little about sailing but I love the adventure and the idea of camping out on a dinghy. I look forward to watching your next episode. Also possibly visiting an area I would not have considered. Many thanks Grant.
Being on a schedule in a small sailboat is almost an impossible task but I’m certain part 2 will showcase the best of small boat sailing. Cheers Rodger!
Always a joy to sail with you on your trips away....this was particular treat. Really looking forward to Pt2.....Thanks for the huge pleasure you give me and many others.
Your videos come like unexpected gifts. Always a pleasure to open and watch. Thanks for sharing!
I wholeheartedly agree.
i agree...that boat is awesome...

Love watching these with family. A big hit.
I also wholeheartedly agree
I am glad that you are getting out on the water and that you are still posting.
Thanks Roger. What a journey we have been on. All without leaving our couch.
As always the most comforting 30 minutes on RUclips
WELCOME BACK you where missed . Congrats on this video🍾🎊🎈
Always worth the wait Roger!

Thanks for sharing your trip with us.

It's tough to compose a quote as good as Lee's, but I will say, what you capture quiets my soul. One day, I will beg to join you for a sail.
Nicely documented. I admire Mary, good sense of humor and ability to take charge. Skilled sailor
Roger, you and Matthew Kaunz are my heroes! Keep up the good work Roger!
I enjoy flicking between Rogers videos and the Viking single handed guy …(something like more-sailing, less bullshit ?)
Thanks again for the lovely update, Sir. Greetings from New Jersey USA on July 4th.
Thanks Roger, you get to some fascinating places, a lot of fun cheers
