I just started the Curly Girl method about 2 months ago. Three weeks ago, I ordered 4 products from MopTop (Gentle Shampoo, Conditioner, Leave-in Conditioner, and the Curly Hair Custard). I hadn't heard about this line until someone mentioned it on a Facebook group. I'm totally IN LOVE with the products I tried, and most especially the Curly Hair Custard. It is AMAZING!
I looked for this in stores (California) and couldn’t find it. I ordered an 8oz jar on Amazon for $15. Today I had a bad frizzy day and when I got this in the mail today, I took a little bit and smoothed it over a single, dry wave clump. When it dried, the frizz was GONE! I put a very small amount on one hand and wet the other and raked it through all my hair. Dried smooth. Trying it in the morning. Love the scent. It smells like grapefruit to me. If it works the way I’m thinking it will, I will be purchasing the 16oz jar for $30 because I think it’s probably worth it.
Thank you so much for your videos! I ditched sulfates and silicones in hair products months ago and my hair is so much healthier. It is wavy, but I've never really done anything to help hold the waves. I always used a straightener or curling wand. After watching your videos I'm ready to embrace my waves. I've purchased some of the products you reccomend and the orchid diffuser. I can't wait to see what my hair does! It has a mind of it's own lol
+FitKat Style Hah - thanks! Did you get that honey custard Silvia has been talking about? Everyone raves about it and calls it weird. I'm intrigued. Do a video on it! 😘
Yay! Thanks for the review/demo. definately one I will be purchasing when I next get the chance. Also the 'rake & smooth' method is the way I apply most of my products. It's the only way I feel I'm distributing my products evenly. Do you think this helped you to get those gorgeous waves and curls (as well as great products)?
+rachel chantioux I honestly think it is the product, but I also haven't tried this application method with any other products. I don't know what made me apply this one differently--just seemed right! But to your point, I do need to try it with other other products. I will, and I will keep you posted.
Hey all. I;m new to the curly girl method and all the products and techniques are a bit overwhelming. I checked out Moptop and Jessiecurls websites and learned they have samples for free or $1.50 each and ordered a couple to try. If you don't want to commit to a particular product before trying it out, this is a great way to go.
Lyric Mandell They’re hard to compare because a custard is so different from a foam, texture- and weight-wise. Yes, I like it better than the Deva foam, but if I was going to use another foam instead, I would either go for the Zerran or Innersense foam.
I really wanna try this next...with my LA looks gel. So glad you recommended that. I didn’t wanna have to go out for another gel 😂 Love my cheap LA gel 😍
I hardly get a cast, if any, with the custard. It's a soft cast at best, but the hold is still great. You don't HAVE to have a cast. But if you want one, try applying another layer of product before you diffuse. Diffusing on medium heat almost guarantees a cast because it causes the water in your hair to evaporate faster.
It's funny to hear you make the product junkie comment... I will find HG products, and STILL feel the need to experiment... I LOVE trying new products!
Hi, just few questions for you. Am new to CG - how many times do you deep condition your hair per month and with what ? It would be really nice to know because I have 2B wavy hair ( fine) and have no idea how many times to deep condition?
Oh don't you worry - I tried the MopTop on its on a couple times first. I usually use all my products on their own first to see what it is they really contribute. My hair demands a gel if I want to get a good cast, and I need a cast to have good hair. The MopTop contributes major curl enhancement, but without the gel, I'll have no hold and the those nice curls will just drop out over the course of the day. Make sense?
Sure! It's much lighter than the KCCC, and my hair likes it better. If you haven't yet tried it KCCC, you should--it's a definite favorite among curlies and wavies alike, and it's easily returned to Target if it's not for you. For me, my hair felt producty no matter how much or little I used, so it was not a good fit. But I realize I'm in the minority there. It's also glycerin free, if I remember correctly, which would make it a good choice for especially humid/muggy weather. The MopTop Custard is one of my favorite products of all time, but I believe it does have glycerin pretty high on the list, so I avoid it in really humid weather. I use it as a curl enhancer under my hard hold gel, but I know many wavies can use it on its own as a one-and-done product.
real life+curly girl thanks! Yes KCCC is one of my HGs. Anything too much lighter probably would not work for me. Did not realize it was glycerin free though. Bonus! Washington DC gets very humid in the summer. Would love to see a video on curly girl products for the humid summer months!
Oh, I love this custard! But in the past, I could never use it by itself; for me, it worked better as a curl enhancer with a gel applied on top of it. Now, as of Aug. 2018, I actually do like it on its own, as my hair is shorter and healthier than it was in the past. Breaking my own 'rules.'
real life+curly girl Thank you for taking the time to clarify! It is so very helpful!!! Love your channel! It’s helping me a lot to understand my own hair that has needed a revamping and better care♥️.
+goldfish390 I tried it at the beginning of my journey and I found it to be a lot heavier than the MopTop. Weighed my hair down and added a lot of drying time. Was a no-go for me.
I came here for the MoT Top Custard review. Then I saw the DC product and nearly had an anxiety attack. Yes, I am still traumatized over 2 years later. This needs a warning.

Yes, they're fantastic! I'm trying out a few products from the line right now, and I just can't get over how good they smell. That custard...SO GOOD!

Ohhh ahhh! Lovely!! Just got a different custard but am going to try this method with it!! Thanks! You are a hoot! So fun!
+FitKat Style Hah - thanks! Did you get that honey custard Silvia has been talking about? Everyone raves about it and calls it weird. I'm intrigued. Do a video on it! 😘
real life+curly girl Great idea! Yes that's the one. Only used it twice so far -want to play around with it some more.

Thank you!
Do you prefer this or the deva volume foam? I am wanting to try the sleep in the crunch method with this or the foam and the deva ultra gel.

It's GOOD stuff!
I just got a sample of this and liked it and got lots of curl...but I think I need to add gel too for more holding power.
I just bought this and it does smell like heaven and I did have great curls. So lovely.
Well that's just the best!!
Nice review, I'm going to order some and give it a try :)
I have short straight hair.... will Mop Top put some curl into my hair???
Is the sent a strong one? You mentioned they have a kids line, have you tried it?
So just tried the Moptop Leave-In and Custard and got NO cast/crunch. What is the solution? More Custard? Less Leave-In?

real life+curly girl The second time I tried your routine, I did get a soft cast. Used a little more custard.
Just tried it today! Can't wait to see the results. My wet hair looks curlier.
Got the "starter pack" and followed your vid with custard and EPIC FAIL...frizz and way smaller curl strands...what did I do wrong?
Robin Mcclain smaller curl strands may just be your DNA. But frizz is due to the glycerin in jt
Katrina Lackhouse I get bigger curls with other products, so must be this product. Thanks for info...Maybe my hair doesn't like?
It's funny to hear you make the product junkie comment...
I will find HG products, and STILL feel the need to experiment...
I LOVE trying new products!
Could you do a comparison/review on the kinky curly custard?
It's too heavy for my hair. :(
Hi, just few questions for you. Am new to CG
- how many times do you deep condition your hair per month and with what ?
It would be really nice to know because I have 2B wavy hair ( fine) and have no idea how many times to deep condition?
Monthly, and usually with Jessicurl Deep Treatment, Curl Junkie Curl Rehab, Devacurl Deep Sea Repair, or Curl Junkie Repair Me.
But you put more deva curl in it than Moptop so how do you know how well it works???
Oh don't you worry - I tried the MopTop on its on a couple times first. I usually use all my products on their own first to see what it is they really contribute. Do you still love and use the moptop products? If not, what is your current routine? Thank you:))
Hi! Are you able to compare this product to Kinky Curly Curling Custard?
Sure! It's much lighter than the KCCC, and my hair likes it better. If you haven't yet tried it KCCC, you should--it's a definite favorite among curlies and wavies alike, and it's easily returned to Target if it's not for you. Can this be used without a gel?
+Marc Possoff Yep! And I know a handful of wavies that prefer it that way. For me, I still like a HHG on top.
I thought you said in another video of 5 things NOT to do, was to use this custard. Could you clarify? Thanks!

Just ordered it. Eager to try it out!
mshell4444 Did it work ?
I love this custard but it'd be even more perfect with a little more hold👌
Are all the Mop Top products curly girl friendly?
+SARAH BOUDREAU I believe they are! You can see a list of the full ingredients of each product on curlmart.com if you want to double check.
Thank you.
Have you ever tried kinky curly curling custard? Do you think it's pretty much the same?
+goldfish390 I tried it at the beginning of my journey and I found it to be a lot heavier than the MopTop. Weighed my hair down and added a lot of drying time. Was a no-go for me.

Hahahaha, I don't blame you. That really was a fiasco. If only I had that crystal ball I've wanted for years....
i really dont understand having your hair soaking wet applying products then putting a towel on waste of product
