I’ve been upset with the Jets pick last night and this morning, but after going back and looking at your evaluation of Will McDonald, I’m feeling a little better about it. Carl Lawson and Bryce Huff are in the last year of their deals (wouldn’t be shocked if they traded one to add more draft capital the next two days) and from your eval, he seems to have high end upside with his pass rush win rate. Still think it’s a reach like you said yesterday, but I can at least see the thinking behind the pick. And unlike the Lions, at least the reach is at a position of value.

I love the Raiders pick. I know they need a future QB, but that defense needs so much work. I would love it if they get a nice secondary player for the next choice. They need like 3-4 starting players.
As for Wilson, he provides so much versatility by playing 5 and 3 tech positions. He's got great mentors, and there is no immediate pressure with a superstar and a high-end starter ahead of him. Even then, as Marcus said, he has a bullrush skill set that will easily translate to the NFL. I feel really hyped as a Raiders fan with all the horrible picks in the last few years.

@@dasoupsoup It's not even a question of trusting Poles, he hasn't even built something to trust yet. It's a question of using your eyes. Just to take Skoronski, he's been mocked to CHI constantly, despite Poles very clearly stating what his type as at O Line: big, fast and long. Skoronski went to a team that just signed a LT and who have a clear need at interior. He's a guard. He's going to be a great guard, but he's a guard.
I had Jones above Wright too and I would have been sorely tempted by Carter. I like the Wright pick but it's a B pick, a safe, conservative pick. It's a very slight overdraft but 2 OL went in the next 4 picks and people traded up to get in on them. There was clearly going to be an OL rush because the class is very thin. There's nothing exciting about it but people are working backwards from "well the Bears made the pick, so it must suck".
To say "you got the number one overall pick and ended up picking the 25th best player in the draft" is deeply disingenuous too.

I don't really get the Darnell Wright hate. He took almost 900 snaps at tackle in the SEC last year and has gone 14 games in a row without letting up a sack against players like Will Anderson. Skoronski has okay technique, but from what I see he doesn't maul guys in the run game like Wright does. Also Wright is just as mobile if not more than Skoronski and seems to have the power in his mobile blocks for outside zone... Not sure what you're seeing.

      @t4d0W Год назад

Except Sun God lines up best in the slot. Gibbs gimmick isn't world class speed but top end acceleration along with the 2nd best hands for RB in space. The problem is they finessed their way out Bijan Robinson's range (IMO worth it as a top 10 pick considering he really has top end RB traits) only to get Gibbs at 12 where nobody else was a threat to get him. There is def a drop off from Robinson to Gibbs as a potential 3-down back. Hell can you even say Gibbs is better than the top RBs from last year in Kenneth Walker and Breece Hall who were taken in the 2nd round? Finally I just don't see the full value running a 3-headed hydra RB committee with a 12th round pick. I can bet you 100$ easy that Bijan Robinson is getting at least 20 carries in some weeks playing along with Allgeier for the Falcons.

2 - Raiders pick of Tyree Wilson was a steal IMO. Many mocks had him in play to Cardinals or Seattle (due to Jalen Carter off field stuff). He is the freakiest size, length, power package DE Edge to a team that NEEDS to build up a legit "pass rush wave" as GM Dave Ziegler called it in his post Day 1 presser vs. all the great QB's in the AFC West/AFC.
Maxx Crosby plays too many snaps, he needed help and vet Chandler Jones can mentor Wilson for a year as his contract is most likely done in 2024. His medicals checked out, he has room to get better, but cannot teach that size, arm length, quickness and potential to get even better for an Edge threat - building inside out is my preference for O & D and Raiders doing that by passing on CB Gonzalez.
Plus they were never taking Jalen Carter because duhhh his flags are real, and so was the Raiders' Henry Ruggs reckless driving/DUI murder dealio. Eagles benefit uniquely due to having SEVERAL Georgia Bulldog defenders drafted last/this year to babysit Carter. A risk Eagles can afford, Raiders cannot.
Great pick, was Chris Simms and Pete Priscos #1 Edge/DE player (even over Will Anderson) and the Raiders got him at #7. No terrible reach from the new Raiders draft staff Dave Ziegler & Champ Kelly...seems like the former crappy Gruden Draft Team is secretly picking players in Detroit!! Yikes what bad position picks for Top 20 players. And they did it TWICE! Gruden like for sure.

I'm a huge Darnell Wright truther. I think he's the best day 1 tackle in the draft, and on an offense that became dangerous running the football last year, he's a great fit. They're going all in for Fields this year, after nearly getting him killed last season, and even as an 49ers fan, I love it.
He was definitely the "Wright" pick. Skoronski's best fits as a guard IMO. Just for the sake of comparisons, PJJ has a higher upside than Wright, but I don't think Wrights' is far from his, if not all pro level himself.
I also disagree with the notion that he can't play in an outside zone scheme, he's pretty athletic, and has actual tackle size/length, ran a 1.8 10yd split, at 330+, that's pretty rare.
Finally, when they decide to use duo, or inside concepts, he's going to bring a level of push that I don't think another O lineman in this draft can.

The running back issue isn't the problem since they a chance at Bijan even as early as 6. Holmes could be crucified for that 'value' but if Bijan's draft profile actually precedes him, then its easily montgomery and him running the ball for the next 2 years at a high level. The odd thing is they trade out of 10 and SHOULD know that Bijan is gone by then (Hello Arthur Smith of the Falcons) and Gibbs is arguably an early 20s kind of value pick. Similar as TFG noted like Najee Harris, Travis Etienne or even Josh Jacobs. There could be smokescreen for that from some teams but I highly doubt he gets chosen by that time with other teams having pressing needs for WR/Edge/Tackle/CB.

This seems to be something that they have been planning long-term through the draft in these last few years with the picks of Sewell, Jamo, and now Gibbs. And not only do they have the players for it, they also have the coaching. Ben Johnson certainly had his say in this.

the bears didn't move out of the 1st pick for Darnell Wright. they moved out of the pick to get future picks AND DJ Moore most of all. DJ Moore was the one thing that Ryan Poles REQUIRED as apart of the trade or they weren't going to do it with the Panthers. From there, the reason why they passed on Skronski is likely cause of arm length, the fact that he didn't give up any sacks in his senior year at RT, and he already has really good chemistry with the OLine coach at Chicago. They worked Wright out pretty good as Chicago media has went into what drills and what they actually did in his private workout pre-draft.

Gonzalez: 70% completion rating when targeted, plays in the pac 12 (far less skill compared to SEC), and little production.

im starting to love the kincaid pick for the bills. i mean given what is out there. He is the best remaining offensive weapon on the board. He also compliments Knox well. He is not redundant he has a different skillset then knox. He is also a saftey blanket. can take over cole beasley role. Elite hands, great at creating space and finding soft spots in zone. Not afraid to go get the ball and high point the ball and make contested catches. A certified weapon in the middle of the field with a full route tree. bills can now go into 12 personell whats the defense going to do to cover Diggs, Knox, Kincaid, Davis and cook in the backfield. Defense goes heavy they throw and if they go light they can run it with cook. Kincaid gives the Bills alot more options than any WR would in this draft.

I just don’t understand HOW the Jets front office looked JSN and Calijah Kancey in the FACE and yet picked McDonald. We need another DT and Calijah and Q on the D-line would absolutely TERRORIZE QBs from the inside. Wouldn’t even matter who we have at edge, and like you said, we already have a lot of solid talent there. We essentially spent a first round pick on a depth player, when there were several impact players at positions of bigger need left on the board. A d-line with Kancey and Q, or an offense with JSN, GW, Rodgers and Breece would have made a SIGNIFICANT IMPACT on our ability to win now, this pick does not.

Wright is going to exceed your expectations here. He needs work on his run blocking, he had a tendency to lower his head and before "latching" onto his assignment, and whiffed in open space and sometimes on the outside. But in pass pro, he is going to just lock his edge down.

Falcons already averaged 4.9 yards per carry. Even if he averaged a historically great 5.9 a carry, that would net the falcons only about an extra 20 yards per game…which would make them a middle of the road offense.
Even if you say “well he’s a slot” you could have either a) found a comparable pass catching RB much later in the draft or b) taken a actual slot receiver.
They shoulda just drafted Jalen Carter or a valuable position. That’s before even factoring in that RBs are much more likely to get hurt than any other position, have a much shorter shelf life, and half as likely to get their 5th option picked up as any other position

    • @t4d0W

(Secondary/middle linebacker) in the offseason, the lions are going far into the playoffs like weve never seen before (not saying much ikik).
I dont trust AR. I think Josh Allen was an anomaly.
AR is probably the most physically gifted QB to ever be drafted. His only flaw IMO is that he isnt accurate. Same reason 9ers are shopping Lance.
Besides people get caught up in positional value too much. Lions have about 9 starters on rookie deals, in terms of cap space value they are doing great. Being 100% efficient with your first round pick isnt as important as filling the last few holes you have when you are going into win now mode.
Swift is done in Detroit. Too injury prone, and having a RB top end speed with that line, try and stop em. Wouldnt be surprised if they ship him in a pick swap to move from the 5th to the 4th, or for a 6th round pick.

I disagree. I have Darnell Wright as my #1 tackle prospect in this class (with PJJ having the highest ceiling). His tape is phenomenal. They weren't going to pick PS becauase he translates as a guard in the NFL by most scouts. IDK if anybody noticed but he had a "G" next to his name when they drafted him. If he were to play tackle, he'd by far have the shortest arms in the NFL at the position. Poles (GM) and Cunningham (asst GM) are both ex-offensive tackles so they both know the position and are big on traits. If they didn't care about traits and didn't value things like reach, Tevin Jenkins would be playing tackle for them right now and not guard.

I like the Zay Flowers to Baltimore deal, but I will LOVE IT if the Ravens find a way to get one of these top CB's that have fallen to day 2. Lamars extension should also create some cap space for this season, so there's always the chance they bring back Marcus Peters as well, or maybe take a swing on a guy like Casey Heyward who just got released

With deep CB class and weaker WR class, Vikings going Addison is great pick. They can still get CB starter on Day 2.

Can't wait to see who ends up being a more impactful NFL player: Gibbs or Van Ness. Def will not be forgotten

Bill had me yelling at the TV in frustration (trade back) and then joy (actually taking Gonzalez). Rollercoaster night

They traded back for a reason, why trade back if Gonzalez is your guy when you know washington needs a CB. They were targeting Forbes, that's why when washington drafted him they instantly locked in Gonzalez.

Funny how all these Bears fans crying about Jalen Carter are pretending we weren't one of nine teams to pass on him. Clearly the character concerns were an issue from the start, but the public was so blinded by his talent alone. If he has any chance of succeeding, it's going to be with his former UGA teammates in Philly.

As a Jets fan I generally agree with your assessment, I don't really think it's a good pick either. But, the team rotates the D-line quite a bit, so having a pure pass rusher like McDonald could be super valuable. More importantly, we have Lawson and Huff for only one more year, so this seems to be more of a move for the future rather than the present.
Again, don't like the pick, it's absolutely not a need for this season, but I'm trying to be optimistic. We plan to use him in wide 9 which should play more into his strengths, I hope.

Really hate the Gibbs move too, they coulda got Gonzalez at 12 times then jahmyr at 17 if they really love him that much but even then I’d rather they get a top wr like Addison or jsn or even jack cambell if they really like him that much too. Then get jahmyr in the second and even if he doesn’t drop tht far in the second I don’t see RB is a must have need for them, they got Montgomery and Smith who are both good enough at RB, especially when you have holes in other more important positions like a pass rusher or qb or wr or cb. They got him WAY to early, but maybe they see something we don’t idk.

Draft grades don't mean anything. What happens on the field is the only grade that matters. It's the difference between a scrimmage and a real game.

People looking in dont really have the context to properly grade the gibbs pick. imo
Firstly swift is alway injured, unable to run between the tackles and is on his final year of his contract. When swift was healthy though, lions offense was even better. Almost unstoppable. Monty didnt offer the same level of receiving/ 3rd down ability swift could provide. Gibbs is just a better swift. Better vision. Faster and a even better receiver. Lions got a foot ball player not a rb. They are going to make Gibbs a focal point of the offense. Lions will be designing the game around gibbs like they did early on with swift.
Monty who i also love really just provides the short yardage ability which lions also need, but he isnt the focal point of the offense.
Really Gibbs and Monty play two different position.
RB was a huge need for the lions and I really wanted Gibbs late first or early second with a trade up. it was a bit of a reach but personally it was more like 10 to 15 pick reach instead of the 30 to 40 picks some people have been parroting.
Gibbs takes this offense to another weapon and give the lions another player with game wrecking ability. I didnt love the pick but theres a fair argument that for the lions he is better then Bijan.

Questions about the best blocking Tackle in the draft going 10?? He single handedly shut down Will Anderson and numerous 1st and 2nd round talents all season last year.

Milton Willams and Jalen Carter are real life best friends. Carter to the Eagles is devastating to the league for many years to come.
