Rab athlete Faiçal Bourkiba had long dreamt of climbing the north face of Tazarhart in the Atlas Mountains of his native Morocco.
Uncertain about his ability to take on the challenge alone, he teamed up with fellow Rab athlete Jeff Mercier with the aim of establishing new alpine routes in the area.
"I live in Morocco, well known for its blue skies, sun, trekking and warm rock climbing holidays. Winter alpine and ice is almost unexplored.
There are no rescue services and only a small climbing community. If something happens to you, you will remain in the mountains.
This adds an extra layer of risk that makes developing new routes and learning new skills even more dangerous.
Yet, despite the risks, I couldn’t forget about the face.
That was when Jeff made me an offer I couldn’t turn down."

Magnifique film bravo ! Faiçal a l'air d'une humanité rare, belle émotion au sommet. Merci de montrer qu'il n'y a pas que l'élitisme dans la montagne et qu'elle peut apporter à tous. Même si la voie est certainement difficile la performance n'est pas le sujet du film.
En étant d'ailleur amateur 😅, pourquoi s'encorder plutôt à double qu'à simple ?
je me suis posé la même question. Mon raisonnement m'apporte à penser que Jeff a préférer grimper sur une corde simple et de faire des longueurs de 30m max (pour les passages difficiles) tout en gardant les dispositifs avantageux de grimper sur corde à double (pour risque de chutes de pierres et éviter le tirage). Il ne devait pas y avoir de rappels a faire non plus. Logistiquement s'encorder sur corde à simple pour de la "marche" dans les couloirs c'est aussi plus simple et moins de perte de temps inutile que d'en avoir 2, surtout quand la descente a du s'effectuer par de la marche/desescalade facile ou il n'y avait pas besoin de faire de rappels (éventuellement 1/2 petits rappels).
Je me demande aussi si Jeff ne préférait pas être à une distance où il pouvait bien voir/entendre Faical, et vice versa pour l'assurage, surtout quand il parcourt du terrain inconnu.
Ces raisons la (et peut être que j'en manque) m'apporte à penser que cela lui semblait plus cohérent que de s'encorder avec 2 cordes de 50m, surtout quand ces cordes de glace sont très bien normées et tout aussi fines.
Tres beau film comme tu dis et de voir cette émotion de faical montre la pureté et la beauté de faire cette pratique dans des endroits qui nous tiennent à coeur!
