    I just love how Nintendo keeps innovating on 2D games, as they did with Metroid Dread, Mario Wonder, and now with Zelda. They're not letting these sidescroller and top-down games die as an exclusively "throwback to the past" trope, instead making them into fresh experiences worthy of the same praise as the 3D titles.

    • @QnjtGWonQNqVsbYyzjx4

      Metroid dread is still the old formula and echos of wisdom is a side game, not a 2D link game. I think these game should be meant to modernise the formula and also introduce new one off elements. They should not be the 3D game but in 2D

      @@QnjtGWonQNqVsbYyzjx4 I agree with you. I'm not saying they should be the 3D game but in 2D. What I mean is Nintendo makes them so good, they are still just as relevant as the new 3D entries.

    5:07 Three games in, and they still can’t be bothered to design a better UI (or even different) for accessing items. They should really just trim the fat, especially when a lot are going to serve the same function. Focusing on quantity is stupid when all it amounts to is more wasted time searching through dozens and dozens of items that mostly do the same thing as several other options.
    A radial menu with different categories is one suggestion. Or heck, use the same row menu, but have them stacked. So something like “object that takes up one square” is on one square in the row (shows last used item), then you press up and vertically scroll through them. It means you can quickly access something with a unique purpose, but still use an aesthetically different variant if you feel like it. Rather than they’re all jumbled into one long line with no real way to understand what is where at any point.

      I love the 2d zelda games more than the 3d ones too! Links awakening was my first zelda game that I owned and beat on my own. I have always been more into handheld gaming as I grew up with a game gear and a gameboy pocket and then a gameboy color etc. etc. so I also plaed oracle of seasons not too long after and I got so sucked into the world. I loved all the mysteries and exploring and finding secrets. I then played a link to the past when it came out on the gba and I fell in love with that game too. My cousin had a n64 growing up and I enjoyed ocarina of time but I enjoyed watching him play more than actually playing it. I stopped gaming for a really long time and then a couple years ago my cousin gave me his old 2ds with a few games. One of those games was a link between worlds. I fell in love with that game just like I did the older ones back in the day. It was that same sense of discovery and mysteries but also had some more modern sensibilities like an interactive detailed map and better controls. I would go as far as saying that I actually like a link between worlds more than a link to the past! I'm really excited for this new zelda game as breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom just aren't really for me. I do understand why people love them so much and they seem like amazing games. But I just prefer the more old-school top down approach.
      Anyways I'm glad that you are excited about a new top-down zelda too!

    Sometimes I just don't understand how those kinds of things get passed development. Like I know it's not just an accident. For sure probably multiple times people brought that up and proposed that reverse bind fows much better because if its called bind then the ability that does the opposite is reverse of that thing. But even though it was probably mentioned a butt load of times they said "nah, I'm keeping it just to mess with the wacky ocd people who will probably write entire paragraphs complaining about it in some RUclips comment section"
    Well played nintendo, well played.

      Although it drives me insane too, I think I can see why they named it like that. If I had to guess, it would be so that people wouldn't confuse the two. Players can tell with a split-second glance which one is which. If someone quickly looked and saw "bond" on both, they would have to waste time reading the surrounding text to figure out which one does which.

      @mrshmuga9 12 дней назад

      I wasn’t expecting much in terms of story for a 2D Zelda game, but I am disappointed that for Zelda’s own game, a lot of it is reused. The art style, the world (more or less), and enemies. It doesn’t have its own distinct visual identity which is something I appreciated in each iteration (outside sequels). I’m fine with them reusing the chibi models as a consequence for making it quicker/easier because of the echo mechanic, but would it kill them to change up the textures or something? Like, even Pokemon Legends Arceus threw a filter on top and a few other things to try to visually differentiate it. They even ripped off BotW’s menus 1:1 (mechanically and visually). This is the 3rd game now that uses that exact same menu style, and it still goes unchanged despite being terrible for games about accessing dozens and dozens of items on-the-fly. I don’t know how or why no one has fixed it. One of the worst things in those games is wasting time scrolling through them trying to find what you want. Especially when a lot of them serve the same functions. What ends up happening is you only bother with a few things that are closer to your cursor and disregard the rest, because it becomes unbearable. Now, this’ll be a more slower paced game in the dungeons where you’ll have to think more so maybe it’ll be more tolerable, but it’s still inexcusable they haven’t improved it at all. At least stack them into categories.

      I’m pretty optimistic, and I wasn’t keen on BotW/TotK. I think open-world can work, but everyone makes the world too big and thus spread themselves too thin to make it interesting. But the world is a smaller world, no physics and limited perspective (can’t fly over something in top-down view like in 3D). The fact it looks to have proper dungeons (segmented rooms, multiple floors, likely more creative puzzles to overcome) gives me hope.
      Sure you’re not getting a bespoke item halfway through a dungeon (you’ll get echoes all throughout the game, and give a good reason for exploring), but if the puzzles are actually well designed, then being able to come up with your own solution could be fun. BotW/TotK aren’t in that aspect because the puzzles are one-note, so you don’t really need to think of a creative solution. Use stasis to hit something a long distance, or for TotK making a car/boat/plane solved 99% of problems. Your initial thought in those games is the optimal path and anything else is just for novelty, not even an in-game bonus.

      It could be challenging. We’ll have to see more beyond just the introductory dungeon. But I agree that them using the exact same BotW menu, and still not improving it after 3 games despite having to scroll through dozens of items is inexcusable. At least have categories of items or radial menus. Too much focus on quantity when all that means is searching through tons of objects that share the same functions. It’s like they don’t even play test their games.

    • @knatkniht
      @knatkniht 12 дней назад

      @@mrshmuga9 I agree. But it's the same design philosophy as totk, which was also brainless. That's what I mean when I say easy. It doesn't seem like you'll have to really think hard about which echo gets the job done, just the closest in the menu.

    • @mrshmuga9
      @mrshmuga9 9 дней назад

      @@knatkniht I don't think that aspect is what kills it (although it will make it more annoying). You could have a lot of tools and still be challenging. Most are going to have overlap in functions anyway.
      The thing that gives me optimism that it won't be (or not completely) shallow, is that the dungeon design seems to be traditional. No terminals, you need keys, you have multiple floors and segmented rooms... if that's the case I think it's more likely the puzzles will be closer to the traditional games as well instead of BotW/TotK. Whereas the BotW/TotK elements they're using to change it up is allowing you to tackle anything in any order (pretty sure) and not having to defeat a dungeon to get items/tools. You'll get the most pertinent ones all from the start, and then others all throughout your adventure.
      I honestly believed it would be a complete overhaul, so when I saw how much was actually retained from the classic games, it made me reconsider. Still gonna wait for some trusted reviews, and watch a bit of a playthrough though. I was disappointed how underutilized the vehicle mechanic was in TotK, so I'm still going to be cautious.

    There is no timeline. They just make games, some connected to a previous one, others not. Do you really think Aonuma and the story writers ponder upon that? Just as silly as a Mario timeline. The only series with an actual timeline is Metroid and even there, the Prime games don't really fit.

    • @zacharyh.9565
      @zacharyh.9565 14 дней назад

      Come on, they've clearly retconned to fit Prime into the main series.
      Think about it like this: you have ZM where it's Samus' first mission. Then, you have SR where a partially mechanical Ridley shows up. What explains this discontinuity? MP1-3

    • @GameTimeNLL
      @GameTimeNLL 14 дней назад +1

      The whole timeline obsession is just crazy to me. I mean theorize about it all you want, but to me its clear the "official" timeline is just thrown together to ease fans. And when a zelda game doesnt "perfectly" fit in the delusional timeline, people call it a bad zelda game. Ok. Zelda theorizing is a lot of fun, i personally also love it. But obsessing about a timeline that even the developers didnt want to make and are not sure about is just kinda weird to me.

      @@Physicalchemistry15151I agree with 90% of what you’re saying, but I think it’s also valid to make a game and not want to have to think about where it fits. Because at some point it’s gonna get convoluted and wanting to start fresh without worrying about that is fair after 20+ years fitting all the games in. Especially when the connections between individual games are loose anyway. Separated by hundreds of years, where you might have one big moment that connects them, but virtually all characters are dead so little actually matters. They’re basically all isolated games outside sequels. You’re not gonna play Twilight Princess and find out what the Yeti’s up to in Skyward Sword. Or hear what happened to Groose after SS in BotW. Some don’t even take place in Hyrule (namely the 2D games).
      My only problem is they branch off to be free from worrying about where it fits… just to make a “story” that has next to no story or terrible stories anyway. They had an advantage from not being connected and still did nothing with it. It’s clear they either don’t want to make stories or have a poor mindset about stories.
      Going off memory, but BotW probably could’ve been some sort of OoT “sequel” where the champions are descendants of the sages. The only one that doesn’t work is Revali because the rito only exist as a result of WW, but I don’t think sages are mentioned or at least there’s no Gerudo one in WW so it couldn’t be directly before or after WW. But you could probably have some reason why it’s possible or that there’s another branch.

      Looks to have traditional dungeons (segmented rooms, keys, multiple floors, no terminals…), so I’m more optimistic after seeing that played a bit. Open-world can be done well, but I find most games make the world too big so the idealization of that concept is never truly realized. And this world is obviously going to be way smaller than a 3D open-world game, so it’s possible. FYI, I wasn’t crazy for BotW & TotK. I’m still cautious of whether the puzzles will require more creative thinking or if they’re just going to be basic, but I’m optimistic. I’ll probably watch someone play through the first two dungeons before seeing if it’s worth getting.
      The fact the dungeons don’t seem to be compromised (by doing the opposite of what I listed above) is already a good sign that they’re not completely abandoning having traditional elements.
