Good morning/afternoon Mike! 12:05 PM Iowa time. Currently 19 degrees here in southeast Iowa! Should be 27 maybe today! That was literally a “stop and go” today for number 5! Have a great Wednesday out your way Sir! I am here! Mark in Iowa.

Good afternoon, Mark; Thanks for tuning in and the comments. Its 43 and sunny here. We should range into the 50s for a few days. No moisture out here. They are getting some along the front range and the high country. In the last part of the video, you can see the snow on the east face of the Rockies. Hope to see much more up there.
Yep. That stop was done with precision. They were against the clock today.
Anyway, Have a great albeit cold day back there.
Please take care, stay warm and safe!

Good morning Mike. Beautiful sky today, brought to us by the late Zephyr. Hope you didn't miss Zazzy's.LOL I think Jimmie Rodgers sang a song about waiting for the train. Have a great day out there and stay safe.

Good morning, David; I thank you for dropping by and the comments. The scenic view included snow on the east face of the Rockies. I like that. Beautiful clear skies and low humidity made that view possible.
I as on foot this morning having dropped the PU off for some maintenance. That shop is about a block away from the depot and the timing for the late Zephyr worked out. Zazzy's is a 3 block or so walk and got there in time to have a shot of coffee with the group including Marne. Then the 8 blocks to the house in the sunshine. Just returned from getting the PU back with a return for more service work on Friday.
I do like Gordon Lightfoot's song of the railroad across Canada. Have a CD with that on it. Now a collector's item that he has passed away.
Anyway, have a great afternoon and evening over there. Plese take care and stay safe!

Good morning Mike from sunny 36 mid Tenn. Good stop despite the lateness due to freight congestion. What's the story of ALC42 dropped in Lincoln, Ne? Unusual to say the least. Maybe to try on #5 or #6 some. Your day is off to a late start, how do you spend your time when there is an extra 2 hours + to kill before arrival? The blue Colorado skies are lovely to look at even with low temps.

Good afternoon, Ben; Thanks for dialing in and the comments. I thought that AMTRAK may be trying our modifications to the new motors by running that engine thru as part of the Zephyr. I have no idea why it was taken off. The #6 train last night already had a freight motor added and tonight's #6 has the same from Roseville, CA. hat ALC may also be in Lincoln as part of a training program. I rather grasping at straws on that.
The morning worked out well timewise. I had an appointment for the PU at my local shop for some maintenance work. That shop is located about a block from the depot, so I checked it in and walked the distance to the depot then the 3 blocks north to Zazz'y for coffee and then theb8 blocks home. It goes back on Friday for some more work once the new parts arrive. That was "Plan B". The original plan was to take the video, bring it all home and then turn the truck over to them followed by the walks. The brilliant sunshine and no winds made the walking a bit more bearable. It is 44 F. right now (1152 MST).
Anyway, have a great afternoon and evening back there.
Please take care and stay safe!

Hi Mike ; hope this gets to you . I had a hard time getting the video; after 4 tries think this is it . TY for a late 5. Hope your new name / channel is working out .Are both channels up but the old 1 you can ‘t conment? Engine 5 for #5?!

Good afternoon, Cheryl; Yep. You found the right place. I am still posting the same exact video to both the old and new channels. My decrepit old laptop is cobbled together to post to the old channel. I do not know how much longer I can keep it operating. I turned off the comments on that channel in hopes that viewers would come find this one and make a comment or two. Plus the keyboard on the laptop is not functioning as it should so have an external keyboard hooked up to it.
Anyway, that was #5 leading #5 today. I was in hopes of recording one of the new engines in revenue service today, but that engine was taken off the train back east. Oh well. maybe another time.
Have a great afternoon and evening down there.
Please take care and stay safe!

Good Afternoon Mike: Train running late, I am running late. Nice video. Even with the sun out it still looks cold. It’s 40 degrees right now, wind makes it feel much colder. Had PT earlier. The Apple update IOS is out I am ignoring it for now. Not ready to learn a. Batch of new stuff. Wonder what happened to engine? Hope we get them soon on the western trains. You have a good day and be safe.😊😊😊😊😊

Mike, what do you do during those long waits? And when so cold.

Good afternoon, Rich; Thank you for stopping by and the comments/question. I am usually awake around 0330 in the mornings. A quick check of the AMTRAK tracker maps gives me an idea how much time I have to lollygag and mess around before going to the depot. On days like today, the routine stays the same, but I can do more online crosswords or other time killers.
That didn't happen today as my PU was slated for the shop and some much-needed maintenance. That shop is about a block from the depot and once I checked it in, I grabbed my gear and used my feet. After the Zephyr departed, I made the 3 block walk to Zazzy's for coffee and chat with Marne and the guys.
I wear a heavy parka with gloves /mittens and those are equipped with hand warmer packets which do help in keeping my hands warm. The rest of me seems to be unaffected by the cold. Today, the exercise of the walking helped a lot. Plus the coffee.
Having grown up here and working here for over 20 years at the Western Sugar Refinery, I am somewhat used to the weather.
Anyway, I hope that you have a great afternoon and evening. Please take care and stay safe!
