      It's not though. It uses the mPCI socket but with a custom pin-out. The 3G card is just a USB device. If the Vita is hacked, you can get a "PSVSD" card that replaces the 3G modem and allows micro SD cards to be used for storage. Much cheaper than Sony's proprietary memory cards!

    You can also make shortcuts to open games in full screen. Then make scripts that Nvidia Experience can use to launch said games right from your Vita. I just turn my Win10 PC on headless, pick a game from the Moonlight menu, and start playing.

    • @MyRegardsToTheDodo
      @MyRegardsToTheDodo 5 лет назад +1

      Normally one button not working means that the pads underneath have to be cleaned. Use cleaning alcohol for that. But with the Gameboy Color you have to be extra careful that the battery inside hasn't leaked, with all other Gameboy models if a battery has leaked you can normally clean the acidic remains and the Gameboy has a good chance of working again, but the battery compartment of the Gameboy Color has an opening going to the mainboard. I once got a clear purple Gameboy Color, where battery acid had eaten a lot of the mainboard, including the left side of the D-pad. Walking right in games works, but turning around and walking left doesn't. Since the screen and casing are still good I am keeping it for spares.

    I remember trying to fix my first vita after leaving it on the roof of my jeep for....3 months. I dunno how it managed to stay on the roof that long because I drove a bit back and forth. Anywho I got it running for a month or so but eventually it just died. The home button stopped working as well, I swapped out the left controller board for a new one and enjoy about a month or two of it running okay. Then it just up and died....But I ended up getting a new one because honestly Vita had some great games.

  • @CrystalMcNair
    @CrystalMcNair 4 года назад +5

    Considering how cheap that replacement screen + bezel was, I think it's a standard cheapy LCD screen, not the Vita's original OLED. I wonder if they make replacement OLED screens? That'd be very nice....

    • @nsp6590
      @nsp6590 4 года назад +1

      You can find new, replacement OLED ones but they're really rare. Almost all of the new ones are just LCDs but honestly LCD screen quality has improved so much since the Vita came out in 2011 that I'm not even sure the original OLED screen actually looks any better than a new LCD one. Not to mention there are now plugins for the Vita that allow you to change the saturation, contrast etc on an LCD Vita screen which should improve things even further. Buying a new OLED screen replacement is probably more trouble than it's worth these days as they suffer from many heat related issues that really hamper their longevity and they don't really offer a (much) better image quality than a brand new LCD anymore. This is coming from an OLED Vita owner that loves that particular screen.

    • @MrCumstein
      @MrCumstein 3 года назад +1

      @@nsp6590 Idk man, I’m a Vita1000 owner from day one and I’ve yet to see an lcd that rivals the Vita’s OLED. Close but not quite, at least not in a handheld device. The LCD Vita certainly doesn’t even come close imo. Saturation and contrast still blows me away, and with the Vitabrite plugin that bumps up the apparent brightness it’s just incredible, even to this day. Every time I use it (almost every day) I have the thought “damn that’s nice “. Haha
      I just hope it lasts for a long time because I’d be devastated if it were to fail.
      Having said all that, you do make a good point. LCDs have come a long way since the days of the PSP. Or even the days of the Vita, for that matter.

    • @nsp6590
      @nsp6590 3 года назад +1

      @@MrCumstein I also love the OLED screen on the 1000 no doubt and it is much better than the screen on the 2000 of course. The plugins really do help the LCD screen on the 2000 though and it gets pretty close to the OLED although it's not quite there. So really which one is "better" depends on whether one is ok with sacrificing some reliability for the crisp image. Now since I wrote my comment my opinion has changed slightly because I have found ways to preserve the OLED more effectively (lowest brightness setting and a plugin that allows the brightness to drop even lower than stock for night viewing) and honestly the 1000 is still my favourite model because of the screen alone. But it really can be a pain to maintain because screen burn-in is a genuine issue on any OLED screen as old as that of the Vita. Newer ones don't suffer nearly as much but the Vita indeed does. That coupled with the fact that the 2000 has micro-USB charging rather than the proprietary port on the 1000 and the improved battery life, and I do think that the 2000 is the better choice for a newcomer to the Vita scene 2 years after Sony stopped producing the device. However, the 1000 is definitely not the "wrong" choice by any means. The screen really is beautiful.

    • @MrCumstein
      @MrCumstein 3 года назад +2

      @@nsp6590 Yeah true, I didn’t consider the proprietary charge connection on the 1000 because that’s really not an issue for me. I suppose what I was trying to say is that I love my 1000 greatly and the slim would be a step backwards for me. I would also agree the 2000 would be the way to go for newcomers. For people that have never seen the OLED, the LCD would look beautiful, and they’d have no idea what they’re missing. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the LCD is bad by any means.
      I baby mine as well and it’s working as well as it did when new, with no sign of burn-in at all. I use it at it’s brightest setting because that’s when the OLED comes to life for me. If you can use it with the screen dimmed all the way then more power to you, but I don’t think I can. I’d just reach for one of my other retro handhelds instead, which I often do. I try not to use the Vita exclusively because I don’t want to wear it out. With over 7 years of use I must be doing something right.

    I know It's a little late for this comment, but the Vita is absurdly easy to fix because it's so modular.
    I bought a Vita from a kid for 50€ two years ago and he gave it to me saying it was spotless. Of course he forgot to mention the right analog wasn't working :D
    3€ and a week later I changed the analog in 5 minutes and now it's PERFECT.
    It's a really amazing system, it's the first model and it works like a charm. It's my favorite handheld, that's for sure! :D

    I attempted this over 2 years ago using this specific video as a guide but unfortunately I only got up to 8:22 (my previous comment is still on here from when I first started the project) when one of the screws that holds down the 3G module, refused to come out. I tried myself but unfortunately it started to round out so I left it and took the whole console to a phone shop guy in my area who I knew would have the right tools to try and get it out. He basically made it worse to the point a screwdriver wouldn't even fit into the space. I ended up throwing the whole project to one side as I had no idea where to even begin to rectify the issue and I didn't want to pay silly money for someone to repair it for me. I saved this video in my "Watch Later", knowing that one day I would eventually get to the bottom of the repair.
    Procrastination due to lack of direction took over and I neglected it for for all this time. Once or twice I would have a fiddle with it to see if I could make magic happen but all attempts fell flat...Until tonight😂 I finally had a crack at it and as of 03/10/23 (or 10/03/23 for all the Americans) at approx 11:30pm, I finally managed to get the screw out using a kitchen knife; Not ideal but I grinded a slit across the screw head so I could tap a flathead driver in and screw it out but I guess the friction of the knife jolted it enough so it undone itself. I finished the repair and now my Vita lives again 🎉
    Your guide is top notch mate. I know i'm a few years late but keep it up🔥much appreciated. Well deserved Like has been left on your video

    Your comment regarding the screws not going in as nice... I suspect the screws are self tappers and there is likely NO thread in the plastic posts in the replacement part. You are feeling the first cut of fresh thread.

    I'm not sure if im correct, but a lot of the sub £25 screens ive seen now do not seem to be OLED, I think they're a cheaper 3rd party LCD, looking much like the Vita slim. Be careful if you're replacing these screens and expect them to be OLED, because I dont think they are. The OLED screens are incredible.
