The Vita is my favorite handheld console ever. I like it more than the 3DS or anything else. You just need to homebrew it and a whole universe of possibilities opens up. It's great for emulation, you can play every PSP and PS1 game without any problem and the community is awesome as well (other than that of the Switch). They ported GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas, which actually released yesterday. It's incredible.

The console fix I did that I was most proud of was a busted PSP I found in the grass out front of my house. It was damp with dew and had quite a few issues. I opened it up, cleaned it out, put everything together, treated it like I was a surgeon and was ultimately able to get it to boot and play games. I used it for a time until I sold it to buy a girl I liked concert tickets. She turned the concert down just after the sale was made but that was alright, it just wasn't meant to be. I always wondered about buying another PSP but there's really no point in it anymore as they're extremely outdated.

Considering you have never done that before you did an amazing job! I probably would stop at taking the back off before I panicked and put it back on! Well done! I don't know. You say the PS Vita is expensive, but for what it is I don't think so. Especially if you have an Henkaku one. I just got one today. The OLED model (3g), fully working for £70 with a charger, 2 games, a case and an 8gb memory card. Looks immaculate on screen. And it is jailbroken, which I don't think is bad. Looking forward to receiving it. This will be my third. Both my others are exactly the same and cost about the same, but did not come with any games or a charger, but the charger I already had and £2 for the proprietary cable.

I got myself a used Vita for quite cheap (tho it does show the wear) right after the new wave of hacks had popped up, which kinda took people by surprise and they didn't even know to hike up prices before I got mine (the 3.65 - 3.68 H-Encore release). Now that you can again hack any firmware version Vita they might have jacked up the prices yet again.

Good job (and catch on the ribbon connector when you saw it wasn't the joystick)! I initially was telling myself "He's had some of these already, why is he acting like it's new to him?" And then I realized they were the original so-called phat launch versions. I have one of these slim ones myself, paid $68 USD. Works fine, did the mod thing. It's incredible how many people dump the Vita with some minor hardware issues. I got my OG Vita from a kid who reported to me it was Ok, but it a problem with the right analog. I changed it and then it was now again.

  • @Kalvinjj
    @Kalvinjj 4 года назад

The Sony portables are incredibly repairable, modular boards and all, the Vita has separate button boards on both of it's hardware revisions, the PSPs have non-glued LCDs (dunno the PSP Go tho), a bunch of the flat cables are not soldered and cheap to replace, and rarely short annoying to route flex cables (looking at you DS and 3DS lineup!).
The only thing I hate on the OLED PS Vita is how hard it is to find analog sticks for replacement, when I do find they are pretty expensive, tho thankfully they don't have any drift issues anyway, from what I've seen they're different from the LCD Vita but I hope I'm wrong, the LCD Vita sticks are a lot cheaper and more common.

After owning both a Phat and Slim my biggest complaint about the slim is the display. So much so that i still own my phat. Good job on repairing it though looks really good. Shame that sony never really support our little boi and that the switch is heralded as the only handheld of its kind. Which little know fact the Vita was originally planned to connect to a TV. Look up old dev kits of it and youll see a mini HDMI port on it. The PSTV uses the same firmware as the Vita just having the HDMI out flag enabled.

That being said, you need use heat gun on the back touch pad. Just heat it up and replace it in the new shell. No need to waist money on the pre glued ones. I fixed my shell and it's great.
Main issue with PS Vita 2000s are the back. They get the most scratches.
That being said, if anyone knows on eBay or Aliexpress where can i get a cheap replacement speaker let me know. One of them is almost silent.

I had a blue dsi, but it broke over time, first the screen scrolled to the left by it self then it never turned on, a few years later I bought a white one for 15usd and 2 years later the screen started to scroll to the left, I gave up and bought a pink one(all of them had flip note studio) for 35usd and it still works, few months later the white one fixed it self so now I have a back up one

I imagine you'll swap back in the original stick at some point, as it probably works fine.
The Vita is a great little system, but was unfortunately hampered by Sony's decision to use overpriced proprietary memory sticks (I paid £40 in 2013 for only 32GB) and Sony seemed to quickly lose interest in supporting the system, relying on third parties to pick up the slack. For a while, it's saving grace was getting games 'free' each month via PS+, but they stopped that in mid 2019.
However, if you can find a Vita (& memory card) for a decent price, it's great for both Vita and digital PSP games (obviously can't play the physical UMDs). The screen is a huge upgrade over the PSP, which had either severe ghosting issues or interlacing issue depending on the hardware revision.
Also if you had an active PS+ subscription any time in the last 10 years, its worth checking to see if you have any PSP or Vita games available. Saying that though, you may have had to have added games to download list during their active months, but it's worth a look.

Hope you read comments on old videos. Are you aware of any sources for Vita buttons? Getting a blue slim, and the buttons are chewed up. I want to replace them with the orange Japanese set.

Why not use the original joystick now as you know the cable was the issue as you said the replacement joystick was not very nice?

I recently replaced the Joystick from 2 Joycons and that Joystick you used seems identical to the Nintendo Switch ones.

Did you reinstall the original joystick seeing as it was a damaged ribbon cable causing part of the issue? Maybe the original joystick is still working and only the ribbon cable was faulty.

Hey TRF. Nice video as usual, watching your videos has tempted me to buy a vita, so I got it one from my friend but the battery is loosing charge. I would be really pleased if you share a link to buy a good new battery. I'm using psv 1000 oled mode. Thank you.
