This channel is amazing, has anyone ever told you that you have the perfect voice over voice. The way you do everything is so awesome. I love RV channels like this when they show upgrades and how they do them . A+ on the video. Keep them coming.
Well, Dave, you certainly have made our evening! Can't thank you enough for your kind words. It's always so gratifying to hear that our videos are appreciated, and we sure will try to keep them coming. :)
RVgeeks anytime, you two work so well together and your videos are spot on. This is what i like to watch because when i buy my RV i can go back to your channels for recommendations and how to videos. Like i said A+ video and if there was anything higher than A+ for the channel you deserve it.
Great job of explaining how to change out taps. This will surely help out a lot of people who are hansome and not so handy. Again Rv,ers do not be afraid to ask fellow Rv,ers to give you a hand with such projects. We all are about DIY and saving each other money. A lot of us are happy to be able to help out if we can. As I always say " Will work for a good piece of pie"!!!! Everyone have a great summer! My first year retired and am looking forward to a great 2017 RV summer.
I bought 3 of the exact same fixture from Costco and the issue many people had with the hot/cold water lines being identically marked. If you let the hoses dangle in a relaxed position everything hooked up correctly. This is the best install video of the Hansgrohe Metris faucet I have seen. Thanks for the video.
Wow! You guys are so good at explaining everything. I feel like I could even attempt this on my own. I really enjoy your videos. I've learned so much just by watching them. Thank you.
That is a nice unit! I am convinced that, as part of their training, the ones that decorate RVs, are locked in a Walmart home-decor department for 40 days and not allowed to sleep. I will want to do this someday, as my units are all UGLY plastic. Again useful!
Great informative video, and dialog. (What a voice!) I'm impressed you had room for you AND the camera in the cabinet at the same time! Can't wait for the next project.
Nice looking faucets! Our home & RV are decorated in more of a traditional style. The more I see people do these updates, the more I think I need to change our styles. LOL It sure looks easier to clean and maintain.
We love the modern look of these new faucets. The nice part is that since most RVs will accommodate a standard household faucet, the sky's the limit when it comes to choices!
We have no plans on changing our faucet any time soon we just like listening to your voice Peter, lol. We know where to turn to in the future though. Thanks Guys
Excellent choice in faucets! Funny when I moved to the EU they are just marketed as Grohe, same high quality product. Must be their export product. The best chrome work around and very resistant to some harsh cleaners!
As usual a professional-class video. One nit; I would have put plumbers tape on the threads of the adapters. Y'all really set the standard for DIY videos. I even watch and enjoy the ones I do not even need and would never use.
Hi John! Thanks for the nice comment. We actually would have used plumbers tape, but they're compression fittings on both sides in our RV, with gaskets in place. Great tip though... that people should use tape as needed, since there are so many variations in RV plumbing!
Great camera work and lighting. Only thing I would add, especially since it's so easy in an RV, is to partially draining down the hot and cold water. Open hot and co!of spigots then go outside to the wash station use the gravity of both the hot and cold water to pull air into the lines supplying the vanity. and allow gravity
While researching how to do plumbing fixes on my camper I came across your video. I found your explanations very helpful. Especially that of the tools and parts you used and how you did it without skipping over the hard parts as some videos do. I was wondering what your rules are about mentioning the brand of tools, where you purchased them and how much they cost. I would find this information helpful also. I just subscribed. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Hi John! Thanks for your nice comments. Glad to have you with us. We generally list more details, along with the parts and any special tools, as well as links to buy them, in the related post on our website (the post for this video is here: www.thervgeeks.com/plumbing/faucet-replacement/ ). Since we assume that most people have ordinary tools around, like wrenches, screwdrivers, etc, we don't generally list those. In this case, we only listed the Dremel tool and slip-joint pliers, since people might be less likely to have those. Hope this helps a bit!
I have a complaint ..... I showed your video to my wife, now I have $350 of new faucets in the queue to install in our motorhome. I couldn't find the self installing versions, so I have plumbing work to do as well. :-) Thanks, great video as usual.
"self-installing versions" ROTFL So sorry for costing you all that $ AND work. Please accept our apologies, Mark. ;-) Good luck with the installs though, and please let us know how you make out.
Thanks for another great video. I learned a lot from it. We just have one bathroom in our travel trailer, but, I’ve been wanting to upgrade its faucet. Can you use standard home faucets? Is that what yours was? A few years ago, I installed a standard home kitchen faucet into the one sink in our little Scamp 13’ travel trailer. I had to cut a hole in the exterior wall and plumb it for city water, but it worked just fine. Happy Camping!
Thanks Allen! Yup. We used a standard household bathroom faucet, which we bought at Costco. Not 100% sure your scamp will be the same, but if your sink has hot and cold water controls that are 4" on center, any standard bathroom faucet should work (including a single-hole type, with a plate to cover over the old holes, like ours). You may need some adapters to connect the water lines, but they should be easy to find in the plumbing section of your local home improvement store.
Hi Guys! I just reset my stainless kitchen sink (clip-mounts had rusted out and seal was compromised) so I replaced my kitchen faucet at the same time also. I am considering installing Hepvo valves under my sinks to eliminate all trace odors of gray water. Are you familiar with these and what do you think if so? Would love to have you try it first. ; ) lol ( PS I bought some designer teflon tape named Blue Monster and love love love it. Threw out all of my generic stuff and am using it on all of my fittings in and out, just fyi.)
That's something we love about this community..... we find out that there's such a thing as premium teflon tape! LOL Thanks for the tip. :) As far as Hepvo valves, we are indeed aware of their existence, but we don't know anyone who has them, and haven't seen them promoted by anyone that we have confidence in being objective. ;-) So we don't know if they're as good as they claim. Being full-timers, we've never had the opportunity to require them, since our RV is never stored long enough for the p-traps to dry out. We'd love for you to try them first and let us know. :-P
Damnit guys. you are making me spend money again...😋 I couldn't resist the upgrades myself at Costco. Will be great in my trailer. I have a love hate relationship with Costco 😒
+Henri Beaudoin Ha! We know what you mean about Costco. It's our favorite place... yet costs dearly. 😉 We actually mention them again in this week's upcoming video. But don't worry... we only mention their huge packs of hamburgers, so not so expensive this time. 😁
Very nice instructional video! It seems every plumbing task I tackle requires 3 trips to the hardware store! You mentioned that you got your new faucets at Costco. Do you recommend a Costco membership for RV travel?
We've been Costco members for ages, and do most of our food shopping there. The quality of everything is the best! If you can eat enough to buy larger sizes, which are typical, it's the greatest. :) Our next video will actually address the way we stock up for a long boondocking trip and deal with those larger packages of food (like burgers) all at once. Stay tuned! ;-)
We are in the process of getting rid of everything to go full time rving. Needless to say it is a bit overwhelming! Can I ask you what tools you keep in your toolbox? I have a 5 foot tall roll around full of tools but want to make sure I keep only what I need. This downsizing is hard and a bit overwhelming and we have to be out of the house in 10 days but we are looking forward to it!
Very exciting, Ray.... except maybe for the "have to be out of the house in 10 days" part! LOL While I never had a rolling tool chest, I did have quite a lot of tools in our sticks & bricks days. Now I keep only pretty basic stuff around: several assorted sizes of flat-blade & Phillips screwdrivers, allen wrenches, slip-joint, needlenose & regular pliers, a good assortment of regular and metric wrenches (both open-end & socket), a couple of crescent wrenches, a hammer, a mini hack saw, a razor knife, a circuit tester, a wire brush, a cordless drill with lots of assorted bits, a pop-riveter, a couple of vice grips, a wire cutter, bolt-cutter pliers, tape measure, a level. It all fits inside two small rubbermaid boxes - one about 18" square by 5" deep, and the smaller box holds all the socket and crescent wrenches.... probably about 8" x 14" and 5" deep. The only other thing is the cordless drill case. So everything fits into these three small plastic boxes, and seems to do most of what we need. Full-timing definitely limits your shop size! Hope this helps a bit. Have a great "launch" and let us know how you make out!
RVgeeks Thank you! We are getting everything into the RV that we need then donating what is left. Our first stop is going to be Rayford Crossing RV resort in Spring, TX for a couple months. My wife and I hope to see you guys on the road. A lot of your videos have been very helpful to us.
This is a great video, thank you! Just curious, I didn't see an pipe type used on the water connections. Do you have a reason not to use it on the 4 connections?
Hi Daniel. You're right... we didn't use any pipe tape on those connections because they're all compression fittings that don't require it. It wouldn't hurt, but it's not necessary.
Our house has Hansgrohe faucets too. I've found that finding the cartridges when they need to be replaced is not easy. The 2 big box hardware stores nor Ace carry them. I had to order them online and even then they're not cheap.
We know what you mean, but it's not only Hansgrohe with this issue. My Mom has Moen faucets, and she's waiting for our arrival in a couple of weeks for me to fix the hot water slowly dripping at her bathroom sink. This is the second one I've had to do for her in just 7 years (brand new house), but luckily I now have the special tool I need waiting for me in her garage (from the first time). All I had to do is order the cartridge (from Amazon) to be delivered to her house. Let's hope our Hansgrohe cartridges last longer than her Moens have so far. Do they also require a special removal tool, like the Moens? It was annoying to discover that I couldn't use standard tools to replace a Moen cartridge, especially because I had to get a DIFFERENT one for Mom's kitchen sink, also Moen. Oh yeah.... this makes THREE that failed her... 2 bathroom and 1 kitchen... in 7 years. :-/
It's actually pretty easy to replace on my faucet. There's a little rubber thing you have to pry out on the handle. I can see it on yours too. Pry it out with a small eyeglass screwdriver then you can access an allen bolt. Once you get that loose it's just a matter of pulling off the handle, using the slip joint pliers to loosen a nut holding the cartridge and then pull it out. The problem is that you can't just go to a big box store and buy it. I've only been able to find them online. For mine HomeDepot online had it (M3 cartridge) for $10 cheaper than Amazon. Just had to wait a week for it. Order them now and keep one on hand.
We hope it's only to ensure that if a really poorly maintained eye-sore rolls in, that they reserve the right to ask it to leave. We've been to a lot of parks where that rule doesn't exist, and they're often places that aren't very nice as a result. Having just hit the 12 year mark, we are sensitive to the topic, and use it as one more bit of incentive to keep our rig looking as nice as possible. We think that pride of ownership goes a long way to alleviating the problem.
I agree. There are older rigs that look better than new, and vintage models lovingly restored, as I'm in the process with this fiver. I know there are people who have been forced by circumstances into the RV lifestyle, buying what they can afford, and over time make their small homes better. Sadly, you and I have both seen the other side- those who simply don't care and have rigs that look like they've escaped from a hillbilly's junkyard. I think the parks are pretty much caught in the middle- there are parks that don't care and those that cater to snobs. I'm trying to find those in-between. I don't mind sending in pics of my rig or asking a mgr to come outside and have a look.
We've had a pretty good experience overall, with the majority of parks we stay at being pretty nice. Congrats on your fiver and good luck with the restoration!
When we completed the installation we made sure everything was clear and there was no rubbing (clearly visible at 10:28). Thanks for adding this additional tip. Hope you enjoyed the rest of the video.

One of the best plumbing videos I've ever seen. Well done.

Great video guys. Not only instructional but it shows how small items can keep your rig upgraded and feeling new. Stay safe.
Another great and informative video. Step by steps are invaluable. Thx Peter & John.

Sounds good to us, hopefully we run into you guys on the road!!! Well not literally run into you lol.
You never know!! I ran into them yesterday!!
+Goon Is that you Matt?!
RVgeeks haha, yes it's me, Matt! Back in Vic now.
Another First Class Video! Thanks for posting !!
Thanks, Dany! :)
Excellent choice in faucets! Funny when I moved to the EU they are just marketed as Grohe, same high quality product. Must be their export product. The best chrome work around and very resistant to some harsh cleaners!
+Subgunman There's some connection we're not sure of, like they were brothers or something. Great products either way!

Another clean job and well presented video.
Thanks Hector! :)

Thank you

Well done, Guys!... as usual.
Camera work had to have been hell on that one !!. This video is so well done and detailed, I feel like I'm the one who did the job, not you.
You'd better send us your bill then! LOL
You'd probably be calling me back for warranty work the next day !!
You are awesome! Love your videos!!

What do you think about the increasing number of RV parks that refuse to allow any RV older than 10 years old?
We hope it's only to ensure that if a really poorly maintained eye-sore rolls in, that they reserve the right to ask it to leave. We've been to a lot of parks where that rule doesn't exist, and they're often places that aren't very nice as a result. @ 9:43 it's not good to have the drain rod rubbing on the water line. It will eventually rub a hole in the water line.
When we completed the installation we made sure everything was clear and there was no rubbing (clearly visible at 10:28). Thanks for adding this additional tip. Hope you enjoyed the rest of the video.
Better not show the wife this video, I'll have another project and plumbing isn't my favorite.

Perfectly TO THE POINT. Didnt have to meet dog, wife, or your coffee brand...
