What a wonderful day when bags packed family puts up a new video. I am all in.!! this food looks amazing. I love dim sum. I love all the dumplings. I love the sauces so much.!! I love to go in import stores and ask questions. I had a really great Filipino market in my older town in New Jersey. Wow did I love that store! They had fresh vegetables and all kinds of Filipino imports. I’m gonna go back to my old town to go shopping for sure after watching this, I would always ask What do I do with this? What do I do with this and I’m sure they’re a little annoyed but they tell me anyway , I passed on the intestines too ,,ha ha
Lechon Kawali - “Kawali” means “Wok Pan” “Lechon” is a whole pig roasted over charcoal and seasoned with herbs and spices. You guys already tasted it when you guys in CEBU. 😅 They Called it LECHON KAWALI because instead of roasting the pork over a charcoal, they cooked it deep fried in a wok pan, imitating the taste of the roasted pork cooked under charcoal. ☺️☺️
Awesome video, thank you Merina &Melba for your wonderful food tour and so much wonderful information on your family and heritage and culture ❤. Very interesting!
This video was amazing, it’s wonderful to see and learn about the different cultures and to understand how the immigration from the Philippines to Alaska came about. Keep up the great work and superior editing 👍👍👍💕💕
No longer surprised when individual Filipinos turn up in a lot of different countries, but its great to learn about Filipino communities in different countries.
Great video about Filipino culture! Yes, great that American kids are exposed to different cultures and foods. As a Chinese American growing up in America, I hope that there will be an acknowledgement for all immigrants who have to adapt to American food. I mean burgers and hot dogs , cheap meats, over curry and spices? 😊
I could tell the kids weren’t raised in America. They are so open to experiencing things and their mannerisms are impeccable! I wish all kids in the USA could have that experience. You guys did a fantastic job by raising them overseas! Great video! I live 🇵🇭 food, especially lumpia.
@@wps3023it’s not about niceness, it’s their patience, humility, the way the siblings interact with each other and most of all their openness to new things. I worked as an educator for many years. I am complementing the children and parents for the gift they’ve bestowed upon the kiddos. I did not call American kids unkind. Please let them have the glory, it’s not about your projections. I love those kids, they are awesome 👏
Thumbs up Bags Packed Family. This episode was not only entertaining but also educational. Eventhough I'm from Jakarta I still learned some new things about the Philippines. Great to see Forest eating with his hands and everyone's Asian taste buds still going strong.
Absolutely loved this Food looked amazing Your children are an absolute credit to you both - you have taught them all so much - fabulous start to life !!!
This was a great episode. I would really love to see more of the residents that live in Alaska and other ethnic groups such as Chinese African-American, the natives, Alaskans regular, Caucasian, Americans, etc.
watched the vlog, excellent and to-the-point, no non-sense as usual, best wishes and lots of love to the kids from India...especially the little rockstar.
The food is so good!!! I'll have Lumpiang Shanghai & Lumpiang Togue (the one with bean sprouts) and pancit tomorrow morning. Seriously, I craved what you had. 😂😂😂 Love the story that Mommy Melba is sharing.
You guys never fail to fill your vlogs with different content! ❤ So many captivating facts and tasty looking foods. So lovely to see Forest getting stuck in trying and enjoying his food and giving feed back to how he feels about it. Weathers looking lovely by the way. Just a quick question how will you guys prep for the winter months ? Just some feedback from myself🙂, id of liked to have seen Kelly ask some questions that she was intrested to know. ❤
What a cool video and so informative! So happy to see y’all were able to enjoy filipino dishes in Alaska! Still so crazy and fascinating how Forest can eat a whole fish himself haha 😅❤!
filipinos are hardworking and trustworthy and know how to speak english..that's why many filipinos work in other countries..and are trusted by their bosses..and that trust will not be lost anywhere in the world..
To be honest the vibe I got from you Jonathan and family when you visited the Philippine Islands 🏝 is that it didn't make it to top of your faves, it's clearly because of the trekking enthusiasm you guys have, and Philippines don't have that...and most tourist fall in love with the Filipinas not because of the place itself but the vibe they get from the Fililipo citizen that is really unique... you know what they say... it is really the attitude is the thing that make the difference... and I'm glad you are having a second chance in knowing the filipino... just be careful you guys... it is fascinatingly addictive...
Lechon is originally cooked over charcoal. Lechon Kawali is cooked by deep frying it, and we're using "kawali" or frying pan/wok style pan when deep frying it. That's why it's termed as Lechon Kawali.
Funny hearing Granit talk about the food he ate in the Philippines and Nepal. At that age most of my life experiences were around Nintendo and watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoons, meanwhile he has eaten so much stuff and travelled all over Asia already. 😂 Also Forest eating fried fish with his hands because he grew up in Indonesia. Your kids are so culturally advanced and you can really feel it when they came back to America. Also I love how busy the restaurant is. Would never expect that up in Alaska, but then I guess everyone loves SE Asian food.
I’m with Forest! I would be tearing up that fish! I’d need a side of veggies with it, though! 🐟 I dated a Filipino guy when I was in high school. He was so cute and all 1980s punked out. The food they made was wonderful! I miss those days. ❤
hi from new Zealand wonderful wondering family I really admire you guys and the life you have chosen to live but I'm definitely with Kelly when it comes to food she must have a strong stomach to watch you eat because it makes me feel quite sick but each to their own 😮
The lady was wrong about what kawale means 😂, it doesn’t mean a fried it means cooking pan or frying pan. Prito means Fried. I was raised and grew up in the US yet I still know my Filipino language and the meaning of the words!
just because she got some info wrong, doesn’t make her any less of a filipino. don’t be salty. you’re making the rest of us Filipinos look bad. 🙃 there’s a difference between constructive criticism and being a bully. Do better.
@ well I just corrected her because if she’s going to teach something about our culture, she could have said she doesn’t really know what it means, there’s a lot of people out there watching so it’s better to give the right info instead of the wrong information. I also had let it know that I’m Filipino because I could be another ethnic background and then people would think that I’m making fun of her. I’m not salty. I’m just correcting what she said so there’s nothing wrong with that. I am pretty much blunt. Have you read other comments on other people‘s Vlogs, there’s people out there that is so much boodle than I am. If people is going to be on social media, they need to have a tougher skin, I would have not replied back to you, but this is an actual fact that I had put out there. It’s not like it’s BS.
@ i’m not sure if you are one of the ladies that’s on this blog because I remember one of them is named Maureen, have a good night and I hope my comment didn’t ruin your night
Never had pork isaw in the Philippines. Was always chicken every place I visited. Never even heard of pork isaw until this moment. Whenever I was peckish for a snack, chicken isaw was always my go to.
Shout out to Granit for knowing cendol is from Indonesia. The Malay try to own this cold dessert to take as their heritage. I'm sorry but CENDOL or DAWET is from Central Java and Jogjakarta, Indonesia. Yes it became popular in malay and singapore, but come on. Don't do this to another nation heritage. They also said rendang and batik are from malay? Just steal everything....
The tofu with ginger its called "kembang tahu" litteraly translate to the flower of tofu. The Javanese culture like to st sweet and use ginger as medicine.
Love this! I grew up in the Philippines and am so excited to see you show appreciation to such a great culture! Thank you!
I have been to the Philippines and have met OFW's in all 15 countries I have visited. But I was absolutely amazed by the Filipino presence in Alaska.
It's quite amazing. I really enjoyed hearing Melba's story.
i know how to cook all that food..ilove lechon kawali..and taho.
Same here. Didn't know that there are a lot of Filipinos in Alaska as well, and I'm Filipino.

This is definitely not true. You may have been watching a ton of Hollywood but many ordinary Americans are just as nice.
