Hoping Nick if you read these, you do a review of the new Alesis Strike kit. I think alot more of Sweetwater's customers will be in the market for that. Not that the TD 50 isn't incredible, just pricey.

So many people complaining about this kit, I’am a Pro-drummer and Music Producer, I use the TD50 to record with not forgetting a lot of pre-production ideas and its great if your prepared to edit the drum sounds the way you like it , I also own high end acoustic drums which I also record with but the main difference is you need a studio with a good live room which means increased production cost. Electronic drums just offer a different alternative your acoustic kit. I also use the TD50 with triggers on my acoustic kit (Hybrid Kit) and I’ve also used the Roland kit live but you have to make sure you are going through a good PA system.
Excellent amazing drum.
I had the TD-50 Upgrade Pack ordered, when I heard the Pearl Mimic Pro and was so blown away by its sound that I switched my order to the Mimic Pro module. It’s nice to be able to mute the ride with a finger or hand or play side stick the way I would on a real acoustic snare drum, but even with the positional sensing and all this amazing control and variability - it doesn’t matter if it sounds fake or thin. The Pearl Mimic sounds are warm and natural - they won’t sound fake when you’re playing solo. The TD-50, as truly amazing as it is, doesn’t sound real, warm, or convincing when played alone. It’s fine when mixed in with a band, but side by side against the Mimic Pro played solo - the TD-50 does not sound as good. Better control, more variation, more believable playing simulation, but less believable sound.
If money is no object - buy a TD-50 and a Mimic Pro. Use the TD-50 with its snare and ride and use it to control all pads - and send the midi output to the mimic pro.
The mimic uses SSD5. Those are some of the best samples available IMO

Check Jay Postones kit. If you think it's still too "roland sounding" after that, I'd suggest you just never consider an electric set because you'll never be swayed.

I used the TD6V for years, and every sound guy used to come up to me and say that they've NEVER had such great sounding drums in their venues. I created my own custom kits though. I find the Roland factory kids very boring and they need a lot of tweaking but if you have a good ear you can get them to sound absolutely fantastic and they'll beat the pants off any acoustic tin cans out there.

Such a gorgeous E-kit!!!! My small gripes with kit: No percussion sets do you can’t have slave module to plug in more pads for huge kit,and they took away a rack Tim and charge more money from td-30!!!! The new td-50x module update most definitely worth the 200$ imo . More sounds (finally) and 32 channels audio over usb plus much more. Can’t wait to try out digital
Hihats. Unless I win lotto I can maybe hope upgrading to td-27 one day from td-27. I have strike module as well, don’t want to sell that because I like sounds and features from both modules. Definitely purchase digital snare first, and after I check out hihats in person make decision on that
Can we get a review of the Roland SPD-SX? Can't find many good videos of it on RUclips that really explain what can be done with it.
The price is just ridiculous. I'm surprised that electronic drum manufacturers (Roland, Yamaha, etc.) are getting away with selling kits and modules at prices like this these days. I mean come on. You can buy EZ Drummer 2 for $150 and triggering their samples with any e drum kit just destroys sounds you'll get from ANY drum module out there. And now with Superior Drummer 3 coming out soon? Forget it.
I would like to see a drum module designed for drummers like myself who trigger samples using drum software. Something with more pad inputs and pad settings instead of sounds. Just my opinion.

Superior Drummer sounds amazing AND it includes VDrum mappings out of the box, which is awesome. But the resulting feel isn't NEARLY as good as with the built-in sounds. Hours of tweaking the velocity curves, levels etc. and none of the VST kits come even close with regard to feel and playability. it's super frustrating. The VST kits sound so much better, but play so much worse. Do they play 7 THOUSAND dollars worse? Probably not ;-)

Question Can you use a Rubber Beater Head on the Kick Drum? Because Tama as the new TAMA HP910LN Speed Cobra Kick Pedal. And I'm looking at the Beaters and there is no Plastic Beater listed. for that pedal.

Cool demo, it looks like you are using the dw mdd pedal with the control plastic beater, mine ate trough the mesh in 2 weeks, do you have the same problem? i hope dw would make a changeable tip that is more suited to mesh heads.

It’s a review from a company that sells it, what would you expect lol. They’re going to highlight it’s attributes and hide it’s flaws. They’re trying to sell it. Nick always does a good job though.

Features aside, I definitely dig the layout. It's unusual to see a 5-piece kit laid out like one with 2 floor toms.
With all the upgraded censors on the cymbals, where is the swelling effect one can get from a traditional ride cymbal?
Could anyone tell me is it possible to connect a mic 🎤 into the sound module or ear bugs into the Auxiliary so I can play and talk at the same time.
I still want to down load the TD 30 on to the TD 50 so I can have the best of both worlds

for 8000€ I would expect also a pair of balanced XLR inputs with mono/stereo panning switch available,
that's what 99% of sound engineers will provide at gigs -_-

for live performance, when sound engineer provides me monitoring path(s) so I can hear rest of the band,
actually doesn't need to be XLR, can be TRS (both of these are balanced mono), and Roland doesn't provide either of these on their module

Just needs to be said......when you use the digital snare and ride inputs.....then the analog inputs for snare and ride are locked out and NOT useable. Because Nick made believe that these 2 analog inputs are still useable while using USB snare and ride, which is NOT the case. Otherwise a great video by Nick, as always

Yes I've had the td20 since it came out and I use AD2 sounds. I heard the mimic module will allow 3rd party vst's which roland modules will not incorporate I'm not a fan of the td50 sounds a lot of the kits are not to my liking. I thought after all these years of new products (kits) they would have included this feature.

How do you fine the difference of the snare and ride. I watched the video from Drum-tec where he did an comparison of the analog snare and the digital snare and they both seem to play the same, I know the rim is different but what about the surface? How much of a difference?
mojo drum I've seen the Drumtec demo for the snare. Can't speak to their snare as I have not tried it, but the cross stick function is already a big thing by itself. But when I played the PD-140DS at the store, I found that the precision of the strokes and the dynamics were dead on. Positional sensing was also perfect and no hot spot whatsoever. The three ply head also made for better stick response. Just a better immersion overall.
The ride was fantastic, with its bigger playing surface and real ride cymbal weight, it all made for a more natural feel. That weight made a big difference for stick response and swinging motion. But it was the way the 3 zones blended together that made the trigger really shine. The zones were not as distinct, you just played and the sound subtly changed, it was not just 3 separate sounds assigned to 3 zones.
It sucks they use proprietary connectors but that was going to happen sooner or later as technology advances.
They are also very expensive, to a fault, but maybe with more competition from Alesis, Roland will see the light!
I'm hoping they do a digital hi-hat as well.
So at the end he sais you can have your own sounds?? Meaning that i could have in my sd card REAL high quality drum sounds and use that instead of the tin can cymbals and and everything? I have an older set but i cant do that with it. So i use Toontrack Easy drummer 3 but the latency is horrendous :(
I have no idea why Roland doesn't team up with Toontrack for a Superior Drummer version of their v-drums.

Awesome! Not sure if it's worth that much, though. I have a Alesis Crimson II that I bought for $1500 years ago. You can't tell me it's an extra 6 or so grand for the pad sensitivity. That is ridiculous.

not one video mentions that you get 1 less tom than the 30KV
nycjin816 you can customize it when you buy it. There are many different configs. They even have a KD-A22 kick that's a 22" bass drum shell.

I'm looking for a good electronic kit for the new building my church is building and this is amazing
Edrums are great for any application. I used a TD6V for years in our church. Don't even think about using an acoustic kit in a church - in fact , acoustic kits only have 3 places where they fit in perfectly - a rock concert, outdoors or a recording studio. Other than that they are a NIGHTMARE, and you can never get away from that awful DIN that they create. Not to mention the fact that unless they mic'd up and EQ'd decently and coming through a PA system they sound like tin cans.
Man, I'm getting tired of my tiny yamaha dtx402k and I need something the size of a td50 but something that doesnt cost me an arm and a leg.
I've been searching and I'm torn between the $5000 version of the td50 or the td17. Any help ?

How does Roland base their prices? At the end of the day, aside from the module, it's a bunch of mesh, rubber, metal and sensors.

We still have a long way to go before midi drums comes even near the sound and feel of an acoustic kit. Especially continuous hits on a same drum sounds dead and fake. Mainly because there is no acoustic/psysical reaction on the hits. But for practice and/or electro music or special situations, I bet it's a great but expensive kit

Don't waste your time. Alesis hasn't made a worthwhile electronic drum product in decades. Just lots of kits and modules that sound great on paper in the beginning, they promise tons of added features to come. Then the new product is released. All of the cool new updates that were supposed to come...never come...and everyone winds up pissed off that they wasted their money.

Hey, Ricardo. Yes, it is. However, the TD50 has a few features the TD11 pads can’t take advantage of. Especially the digital ride and snare options.

What do you mean when you say "Digital pads"? I thoughts all eDrum pads are digital
They aren't. Some pads send an analog signal to the module, which is the digital side of the kit.
Can someone me whether or not if the Roland td-11 pads is compatible( hi-hat) compatible to the Roland td50kv module?
Hello, Henry! The Roland TD11 came from the factory with the VH11 hi hat, which is compatible with the TD50 module. Further, all of the pads that came with the TD11 will also work with the TD50. That said, you won’t be able to utilize the digital trigger inputs on the TD50 with standard analog pads. Here is a walkthrough from Roland explaining how to optimize the VH11 hi hat for use with the TD50:

Hey, Brutal Pigsqueal. Yes, you can. You can use the analog outputs from the TD50, or you can use midi (if your Scarlett has midi).

As a professional I'm thinking how many gigs will it take me to recoup my $7500.00 and start seeing a profit this thing can't just sit in my studio I like the sample option Gus's I link my SpdSx sample my acoustic kits and cymbals and go from there
Just too expensive. Really like them but now that Alesia strike pro is out and for $2300!! I think that will be my next kit
shiftgears211 Even though this kit is superior to the Strike Pro, it is hard to recommend this kit over it because of the price difference. If this kit was 4500$ instead of 7500$, I could make a case for it but 7500$ is just too much of a difference.

I've had a Alesis DM-10 that I purchased because they promised all these awesome expansion packs with tons of new sounds. Never happened! Then I purchased the DM-Dock. Again...they promised lots of expansion packs and new sounds. Never happened! ...anyone who buys an Alesis drum kit is just an idiot falling for their hype and you will eventually be disappointed.
I got something for you. I’ve called Akaipro about this issue and Rolandus. No one seems to know this. Ok I’m using The Roland TD-50 E Kit. So I program some Midi inside of the MPCX thinking that I can bounce it down to Audio with-in the MPCX. Everyone Says no it can’t be done. So I’m like Why can’t it. It’s Midi Data Info. The Roland Brain is connect USB Into The MPCX So I have to bounce the Midi out take it over into Protools Which Sucks then using USB To Roland TD 50 Sound Brain.
It's funny how many people are bitching about the price. The only valid arguments are concerning the quality of the samples, which isn't an issue if you're able to import your own. Do you people expect high end music gear to come cheap? There are condenser microphones that cost more than this entire kit. Don't expect to buy nice shit if you can't fork out the cash.

I'm not crazy about the snare sound. Still sounds too tight and artificial Maybe that can be adjusted. My main problem is I need two toms in front of me rather than a double floor tom. The td-30 had that ,I think. It's also a little pricy but if you can afford them it's worth having.
Roland has to start merging a snare throw off into this new digital snare capability! It is a simple button on the side of the drum and a software update to the td50. Geez!!!!
Agreed. In my TD20, I can use my foot switch to have snare on or off. The TD50 does not have that option in foot switch settings.
