- The first and probably last McDonald's review on the channel for the foreseeable future but as I'm in the festive spirit, I thought I would head down to McDonalds to try their new festive burger!

35 years ago, I worked as a manager for McDonalds.
In my opinion it all went wrong when they kept introducing new products every five minutes. The whole point of McDonald's was to have a very limited menu, cook fresh as far as practicable and keep the standards sky high. No evidence of that here!
The burger looked horrible and stale. The type of grill that McDonald's uses combined with the use of microwaves, drys the meat out.
Burger King 👑 and Wimpy are much better by VERY expensive.
A very fair review. I would have gone for 5 out of 10.
10 years ago I'd agree but Burger King has been awful recently.
My step brother is a Maccies manager now, and you're spot on, the point of the seasonal menu is to attract people back into the restaurants who don't go there often, so they pay more for a burger with a bigger markup than the regular menu, perhaps not realising the cheaper options because they go in for that specific burger, rather than checking the saver menu

There are traditional McDonalds restaurants like the one of from Bracknell UK it is not one of the ones that had to change for the delivery bias McDonald’s that proitise Uber, just eats, Deliveroo over in store customers, they will loose customers eventually when cunts stop buying convenience and focus on service, the restaurant near me never had the cheese sauce to give enough and did use the proper American cheese but did not ever take the lettuce out even in CUSTOM orders, a medium meal for that price fick that the Big Mac has 3 sauces the big cheesy one and they were short so they half portioned it
McDonalds bacon has been proven to be the thinnest material known to science. It recently superceded the previous record holder, 1970's school toilet paper.
pickles are now thicker but the cattle love their goyslop.

Thanks for warning us Gary. Can't believe they didn't have some sort of mayo in a burger that size. It looked like a cork serving mat with lettuce. And those rashers, bleurghhh. They looked raw.

Not everyone likes ketchup or mayo - I like my burgers dry but with cheese and plenty of onions.

I agree the festive menu is disappointing, major outcry over them Not doing the Festive Pie, and that burger did look poor, but far too many comments here just slagging McDs off generally, the Big Mac, Quarter Pounder with Cheese, Wrap of the day are all great value, not everyone can afford fine dining & also it’s quick, if I’m working late, missed tea, McDs from Liverpool Street to eat on the train feels good to me!

I'm currently based in a part of the world (in Europe - just about) that used to have McDonald's, but no longer has them.
You see so many people here who have such perfect figures (men/women and teenagers through to people in their 50s) and are so healthy because they wouldn't dream of eating fast food* (Using the term "food" loosely....)
Like others have commented, there are probably more health benefits on offer if you ate the carton that the meal was served in - rather than the burger itself.
Mcdonalds isn't my cup of tea and never really has been. Thanks for watching!
There was more lettuce in your burger than in a rabbit hutch! Too dry, needed extra sauce and a decent bit of cheese. Fries are usually just fries but I think most would agree that Maccy's fries, piping hot are a cut above. At least the drink didn't disappoint you. Sorry about being foiled on the dessert front. Typical!
Even when I wanted to get a dessert, McDonalds wouldn't let me!
Bang average to totally bland is what I give MacDonalds . The only decent food is the fries and the ice cream! But even then, Their fries are something I wouldn't miss when eating far better food anywhere else lol

With McD's the key is to expect to be moderately disappointed, and if you are not then it's a bonus. I don't go often, but I can say from my recent experience it's never very memorable food, but just keeps hunger at bay, nothing more, nothing less.

If you’re in Kingston the best burger to try is Smok’d at The Grey Horse pub. They have a proper smoked bbq out the back. Well worth a visit

I have never been a fan of much from Mcdonalds except Sausage and Egg Mc Muffins, Hot Drinks, Milkshakes - oh and the apple pies when they were proper size, not fun size - and I just wish they knew how to cook bacon! End of Rant - Cheers Paul

After using Honest Burger a few times, and eating different burgers from them, I can’t face the semi-warm, semi-dead stuff from McDonalds anymore. Thanks to Gary for checking that out but I’d rather pay double and have a beer with my juicy, cooked to order burger now.

I’d love to see where you go with 5 guys. So many toppings! Bacon double cheeseburger, bbq sauce, jalapeños and fried onions for me. Have you tried their fries? Fried in peanut oil and ‘skin on’, by far and away the best fast food fries for me.

The dryness was exactly the thing I noticed when I had one of these last weekend.
The XL Bacon Double Cheese from BK is far better if you like cheese & bacon. I even prefer that one to the more expensive stuff from 5 Guys, too.

I must admit I do love a lot of lettuce on a sandwich, no matter what kind it is. But where are the condiments, and I think they should change the name to "A Bit Cheesy" if that is what they are going to give people when they order it. Burger looked dry as a dead dingo's donger, good thing you got the drink to wash it down with.
I like lettuce as well but if it's known for being cheesy then it needs to have cheese!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I've long suspected that these seasonal/festive menus are a way to attract non-regular Maccies customers back into the restaurant with an overpriced burger. It works as well, otherwise they wouldn't do it, but it's never been value for money. It's a shame, there's a lot they could be doing with a festive menu. Anyway when I go to Maccies (usually when there's no convenient alternative) I just stick to the saver menu, a double cheeseburger is usually enough to fill me up, but I've got a small belly.

Interesting to see differing perspectives on this burger Gary. I tried it yesterday, and really enjoyed it, although I think I got more cheese in mine than you did. A couple of other reviewers also had mostly positive things to say. Maybe our pallettes are not quite as refined as yours though ha ha 😀

Hi Gary I agree more cheese needed to call it a big cheesy. Also I think £7.99 is quite expensive for what you are getting? You can have a gourmet burger for about the same price but this has more quality and meat and cheese than a McDonald's

This for me is a strange one. Yesterday I watched 2 other separate channels. Both reviewing this burger. They both more or less said the same things in their description. Yes the burger was surprisingly large even tasty. Importantly though they said it was very cheesy. When you showed us the inside of your burger it looked totally different to each of theirs. Yours looked very dry with a serious lack of cheese and the cheesy sauce. I noticed the difference as soon as you showed us your one Gary. I’m not sticking up for McDonald’s but I think you may have got a dud. A very fair review on the food you were served though. 👍
I think McDonald’s chains are very hit and Miss which is why it varies!

When you have a break from all those McDonalds and BurgerKing, and you went to them again, I always have some stomach issues, where afterwords I need a Shot of Jägermeister.

Hi Gary, you actually had NO cheese in your burger! By definition (and the ingredients) that industrial yellow square sludge is not remotely related to what real cheese is. The same goes for the ultra processed bun…with the additives, preservatives, chemicals, sugars and artificial flavourings included in the ingredients you would be hard pushed to call it bread……or even food along with the “cheese”. Eat the meat, the onions and the lettuce and chuck the rest. The fries are ultra processed as well and cooked in seed oils (trans fats) which destroy the body’s cardio vascular health, cells, organs and blood vessels. And as for that caramel hot chocolate……don’t get me started!! If you value your health then avoid at all costs!🤮

Hi Gary, what a let down that burger sort of resembled their Big Tasty with bacon offering, it looked like you had half a lettuce in the bun, The philly cheese stack which finished this week was very cheesy indeed, I too loved their minced meat and custard festive pie last year. The offering this year is ok but not fantastic.

I wasn't impressed with it either, had one yesterday. It felt like they'd squirted a bit of cheese sauce and a sprinkle of crispy onions in a Big Tasty and I'm not a fan of that burger either.
The Philly Cheese Stack had the same cheese sauce and was nicer.

So disappointing Gary looks so dry! Here in Australia 🇦🇺 we have everything in our burgers 🍔 Cheese, meat, bacon, tomato, Pickle, beetroot, pineapple 🍍 also lettuce but not alot! ❤
Good review as always. I don’t eat bacon but, if I did, I would have expected a couple more rashers. Plus there probably should have been a larger slice of cheese with that burger. I’m sure the hot chocolate would have tasted good but there is an insane amount of sugar in that, more than what you would need in an entire day of food.

I remember eating at McDonald's with my grandmother & it was such a treat! It was one of the first chain fast food restaurants in our state (in the 1960s). We could get a burger, fries & a soda for under $1.00. Those were the days! Over the decades, the quality of food declined dramatically and a few years ago, I found out what they were putting in their burgers & nuggets so I stopped eating there. It's a shame, really. There is a need for quality fast food - not as something to eat every day, but as a stop-gap for those on a limited budget. Speaking of which - with the prices today ($11-18 for a Big Mac meal depending on geography), McDonald's is pricing itself out of business. No great loss, I guess. So sorry you had an unpleasant experience, Gary, but honestly not surprised. 😊

These self serv units are things of the future in 90's movies would blow their minds if you brought them forward to our tiem.
I usually ask for somekind of slight alteration to my Burger when I go into Mcdonals, that way the burger will usually be hot instead of just warm., as theyve had to do it special.

Hey Gary, what a letdown here with the amount of cheese in there, I can't have as Lactose Intolerant + allergic to Whey!
When I was last there around that Xmas time-saw a few tables who ordered it and loads of cheese were in their burgers!
At least the burger was edible mate-if it was dry could of put some sauce in it as well.

Actually I quite like a lean, dry burger. Maccy burgers are usually full of various sauces that I don't like so nice to see one without. Anyway, I'd like to see a review of Five Guys, as I really like their burgers.
I will try and do Five Guys in the future but I'm probably going to concentrate more on family owned restaurants!

I'm the opposite, I think the double cheeseburger and the Big Mac are both tasty and juicy, but find the fried chicken burger a bit dry.

British Expat here who is on a mine site in Africa. Nearest Mcdonalds is about 1000km away. You guys dont realise how lucky you are to be able to walk into one of those places everyday.

I worked in McDonalds as a teenager and loved it! I can say for sure in the 80's the food was still real food and it was prepped on a military clock. Looking at the food today you need a microscope and a bankloan. It's so sad that investor margin is more important than quality and customer satisfaction. Disney would be proud.

Getting their horrible floppy 'bacon' was a mistake. I tried the recent Philly cheese stack and shockingly for a special, which are usually a massive let down, it was really good, looks like they've gone back to standard form. As always, I'll give it a go.

Another top review Gary, fair and honest as usual, nice to see something different (fast food) although that burger looked disgraceful, really bad. Have to admit I much prefer Burger King it costs a bit more but it’s way more tastier and filling.

I don't eat at mcdonalds ever. I eat at Dairy Queen. They have a small cheeseburger, fry's a med drink and a small sundae for $7. Granted, the burger is tiny but the price is great. Truth to tell, I buy the special and then get the 1/3 lb burger on the side which is huge and very very tasty. I give the tiny cheese burger to my pups.
When we go to Hampshire we get a large burger for £1.50 at the market. tea/ coffee 50p.chips or hot dogs £1.50.. excellent food and he is always busy..great video mate as normal.👍

I am staying in a hotel down South West today and the hotel is full of Xmas cheer (GRRR!!). / Very interested in this video, since as a rule I really stay away from this type of food (as a kid Ioved it !). / Still - I really like the fact you will review food from all price points / types of food etc. / Thanks for the review - will give this a miss. It all started going to pot when they became franchises. I worked in the Warren Street branch back in the summer of 1987, bloody hell did it use to get busy in there between 12-14:30, it worked like a well oiled machine behind the counter back then.
What a shame as I love a Maccy D’s. I definitely don’t need to try this one now. Insipid looking bacon, but to be honest, it always in in fast food chain restaurants. Hardly any cheese - very disappointing. I’ll stick with the Big Mac’s, quarter pounder’s and double cheeseburgers from now on! Very fair review, Gary.

Gary, do you ever feel uneasy or slightly embarrassed, talking to the camera/phone, in public? Like do people sometimes give you funny looks, as if they think you’re talking to yourself? I remember when Bluetooth for phones first came around and I thought people was talking to themselves. I’m totally fine with talking to people in public but would feel strange, talking to nobody, while I eat. Oh that burger didn’t look great. I’ve ate McDonald’s, all my life but always surprised that it’s. probably the number 1 fast food, worldwide. I’ve not actually had McDonald’s since about this time last year and I don’t really miss it. Apart from the caramel McFlurry and a cold coke on a hot day. Oh I kinda miss the chocolate donut from the 90’s.
Haha, we try to pick moments where it's easier to film but it personally doesn't bother me mate. I do get stared at a fair amount, they must think I'm nuts!

You could go to lidle and by a delixe burger. Bricohe buns .. pickles .. bacon .. cheese.. your own sauces and cook a burger on a skillet yourself and have more enjoyment
Gary , I'm with you on the value aspect at Macca's . November 22nd for me is always the date of the loss of President John F Kennedy . As is plan to visit UK next year from Australia , one day to take an excursion by train an hour or so out of London to another nice town or city . Perhaps you have or plan to do so . A place with a few nice cafe or Pubs and a good look around .

To add to my confessions about not liking chilli and loathing Indian food, I am moving even further into the doghouse by admitting that I love a Maccers, but I love a Maccers so much that I only have 3 or at the most 4 per year. Looks underwhelming for a festive offering. I usually go for a cheeseburger medium meal with a banana milk shake. The Maccers in various parts of Southampton seem to take it in turns to have broken McFlurry and milkshake machines. Since I don't go often it drives me nuts. Disappointing experience for you too, although the hot chocolate looked a bit lush. Hope you're OK, chick, and, as ever, your lovely Mama x x
