Great review. Motor noise is a big issue for me. I have an Athearn GP9 that I had to put a Kato motor into it was that bad. Atlas Master are quiet, but I had two Atlas Classic that were really noisy. I have an Athearn Genesis 2.0 SD90MAC that is a quiet runner, so hopefully Athearn is phasing out their noisy motors. ScaleTrains and Walthers Proto are great and quiet runners too. I had a poor experience with Broadway Limited (my first sound locomotive no less), so they are on my pay no mind list.
@@RodimusPrime i am interested in it so i really dont want to go through Facebook market place would you be interested in a trade i have some stuff you might be interested in i can send you pictures of what I have bye email
I just got a Broadway Challenger too. It started failing after only a day. I've been searching around, and maybe the 16v on both my Bachmann E-Z Command and Piko Smartcontroller is too much for the challenger to handle. What DCC controller system do you use? And what's its voltage?
@@RodimusPrime thank you. Strange, though. I thought the Piko Smartcontrol system was basically a re-branded esu ecos. Not sure why they use a different voltage. Thanks for the reply!
One can never have too many 3977s.
Great review! I love these brand comparison videos!

Great video. very helpful. i was just wondering what radius curves you have on your layout. thank you and stay safe
24-26-28-31 are my 4 tracks
My Lionel Challenger has a QSI decoder installed at the factory. I have never heard of a Lionel coming equipped with an MRC decoder.
Missed the UP Challenger currently at Silva. TRIX 4014 is awesome
Would you sell one of those and how much you want for the locomotive
Athearn is for sale

Im running 13.7 volts on esu ecos....16 seems a bit much

Hmm...both seem like decent locos....That's a tough one!
Did you smoke Deflectors come mounted to you're engine or did you have to install them? And is there a part number for left and right?
Thank you
Mounted already, the only removable ones are mth. Not all challengers had them it is road number specific
Didn’t you convert your 3985 to tsunami 2?
Not mine but I did it before on another
If you wanna keep one only , which one you much prefer ?
For now im keeping the BLI
What's the length?
Athearn plastic? Bli metall?
Yes
@@RodimusPrime It seems to me that Athearn is more suitable for the shelf, and BLI for layout riding.
@@shamaha-hazar i would agree
To me, I have to go with the slowest, smoothest runner, whichever one that is.
Big Boy bli and athearn 1:87
