Re: Diana and therapists, what I do remember is that at some point in time she and Fergie used to go for some weird sessions which involved sitting in a small tent like structure and reciting some mumbo jumbo stuff! Subsequently I believe Diana had fallen out with this woman but she was not what I would normally classify as a “therapist” but more as some trendy wacko type who credulous women used to go to for “therapy”. I can’t recall her name now but there had been numerous stories in the press to that effect!

It's so funny how in 54:20 Harry completely missed the point of what Charles is saying to him. When Charles asks if Meghan plans to continue acting and says he doesn't think there's enough money, he is being very reserved and British. What he is actually saying to his son is :"Try telling her you've got no money of your own, and see if she still marries you!"
Harry completely misses that, or doesn't want to hear it.

Wow, that’s an excellent observation. I had never thought of it from that angle, but I believe you are 100% spot on. The family knew he was on a collision course. But they also knew that Harry has extremely arrested development and basically stopped emotionally maturing at the age that his mother died. And with children that age, if you tell them not to do something, it’s just going to make them wants to do it harder. So the royal family was stuck between a rock and a hard place.

    • @Wanda711

@@lwm2374 I think that's pretty much why the Queen said what she did when Harry asked permission to marry Meghan. What would have happened if she'd said no? He'd have defiantly announced he was going to do it anyway, and would have made it into a public Romeo and Juliet mess. So yes, she 'had to say yes'.

To my knowledge Diana never was betrayed by any therapists or psychologists, the palace tried to get her to see someone in her early marriage and she kept rejecting the help until she hit rock bottom. She really needed the help before she married Charles because she had a lot of issues growing up from her parent's divorce as it turned ugly, her father was considered abusive to her mother and her mother tried to get custody of the children but her own mother (Diana's maternal grandmother) betrayed her so the kids could have the luxury of living with someone so well established (the Spencer family has a huge history in the English that why Diana was seen more English than any of the Windsors at the time.) Diana was too young to keep track of what was going on and thought her mother just abandoned the whole family and it traumatized her, it likely was worse that shortly after her father married a new woman that made Diana distrust her step mother that she attempted to push her down the stairs! As much as her step mother attempted to bring in some discipline to the Spencer children, they were really left in free reign so Diana had very little tools to work with on being manageable as a parent or a partner.
That said, she was still wonderful in that she was very attentive and put her focus on her children, people had only experienced the Queen's interactions as a mother but as a Queen she had obligations that unfortunately her children were not her sole focus like how she probably wanted it to be. In some ways Diana's youth helped her connect to her sons that probably was a big contrast to how everyone else the boys would meet have interacted with them probably too formally. It's this aspect I think is what grew others to like her too. The tragic part is she was probably finally resolving a lot of issues that festered her whole life and was attempting to carry on and live her life with the hope of a more stable future only for her untimely death.
Diana probably was betrayed at certain points that did not help her mental state, the biggest example is Martin Bashir who planted stories that even her own private secretary was working against her in favor of Charles. Diana was likely very unstable while she and Charles were at the mist of leading up to their divorce because of her worry that she would end up like her mom and be separate from her sons. However, her hostile behavior stopped when the divorce was finalized and Diana was permitted to see her sons that she mended her issues with Charles and they were learning to be friends, and then she died the next year.
Hopefully this can clarify a few things to your questions.

Her Bulimia came from her teenage years before she met Charles. Bulimia can lead to serious mental Heath issues including depression, anxiety, attention seeking and paranoia, I don’t think as a young person she had access to the help she required. After she was married Charles tried on a number of occasions to seek medical intervention but she would not agree for many years .
Her story has so much more to it than people think. She was also blamed by her parents for being the third girl and not the longed for heir, Diana, like her son believed she was a huge disappointment to her parents.

    • @sassyt1545
      @sassyt1545 Год назад +8

@@kimarmstrong1814 There’s more to it than just longing for an heir. Diana’s parents had lost a baby son, John, hours after his birth in 1960. He would have been the heir. The following year, Diana was born. It’s not unusual that her father, then Viscount Spencer, had hoped she would have been a boy, after the loss of baby John. However, there is no documentation that either Diana’s mother or father ever expressed disappointment to Diana, that she wasn’t a son. It is more likely that it was Diana herself who created that story in later years, in order to embellish her narrative as a damaged child from a dysfunctional family. Ironically, she didn’t need to embellish because the damage was evident.

I don’t believe that story about Diana driving crazily through traffic with William and Harry in the backseat. At best, Harry is piecing together different memories (Mummy driving with him and W; Mummy crying in the car; paps driving behind them; clicking of photographers), and at worst, he’s telling a blatant lie here because it’s sensational and tugs at the heartstrings. But I don’t believe Diana ever drove recklessly with the boys in her car. She had bodyguards until the last year or so of her life - royal protection that SHE GAVE UP (it wasn’t TAKEN from her) because she was convinced they were spying on her and reporting back to Buckingham Palace. Secondly, and most importantly, whether or not she had royal protection herself, when the boys were with her THEY ALWAYS had royal bodyguards. William is now first in line; he was second and Harry third all through their childhoods and beyond. The bodyguards would never have allowed Diana to drive recklessly (they’d drive instead, but also, Diana, for all her immaturity and rule-breaking, understood royal hierarchy (unlike Harry). She knew how important her boys were; she loved them; no matter how the paps harassed her, she never let their behavior affect how she protected her sons. When she was alone, of course, that is a different story with an ending we know all too well.
These are fantastic! Trying to get through these so I can get caught up!

My adopted mom died when I was 9. For years I held her up on a pedestal as perfect until I became an adult. Then I saw her more as another adult who wasn’t perfect, bc no human is. When I became a mother I understood the things I was upset about with how my father handled things when I was young after my mom died wasn’t fair. Parents aren’t perfect. My father was also grieving and made mistakes that affected me as a child. As a parent myself I could forgive him and show him grace.

I got an illness at 12 that I had to deal with alone bc my stepmother didn’t give a shit. Ppl all over the world have something going on that is worse then what I was going through. He cannot seem to understand true empathy for anyone else. He creates drama and pain for himself bc he mostly has Royal problems, not real world problems. You would think that someone who loves Africa would understand that others have truly hard traumatic lives, some without water & food.
    He needs to grow up.

Later, when she was a teen, her father remarried, but Di wasn't fond of her stepmother. So I think you're right about Diana not knowing how to fill the role of mother, and mirroring her own mother by being absent much of the time.

Hi leeleegirl, I feel that Harry only referred to William as Willy because in the UK a willy (self-explanatory) is typical of how a competitive teenager might refer to his brother named William. I believe their parents did call him Willy Wombat around the time of the visit to Australia, when William was only a few months old, and later Wills, but in 2023 England the popular short form of William is Will - for obvious reasons.

An ex S A S soldier 'Robin Horsfall', gave a lecture at Surry university, apparentatly she started out having ex S A S soldiers as body gaurds, but they're were no incidents where they called upon. So she employed ex Militarly Police instead (presumably they were cheaper) again nothing happenend. So when she started going out with 'Doddi', they started using different protection that the 'Fiad family', used including 'Henri-Paul'.... & everyone knows what happened. The video of the talk has unfortunately been taken down. Keep up the good work with the read alongs.

I have to say, I loved Princess Diana, although in saying that I do feel she was an absent mum, after Princess Di and King Charles divorced I vividly remember Princess Di virtually reverted back to acting like a young 20 year old.
She travelled the world non stop and had several different boyfriends, I remember always seeing the boys with King Charles a lot and not very many times with their mum.
I also remember the times the boys were with their mum it was all fun and games, not doing the usual mum things ie going to watch the boys play sport or dropping them off to school (I realise they were at boarding school but I still don’t ever remember seeing photos of her dropping them off to boarding school, remembering that Princess Diana’s life was actually hunted non stop by the paparazzi so you’d think we would of seen photos like that)
I don’t for one second think she’s wasn’t a loving mum, she 100% was, but, she played the no responsibility visitation parent role.
When my ex husband and I broke up, because he saw our children every second weekend he got to play the fun, no rules parent role while I had custody and had to assume the disciplinary role ie do your chores and homework etc although I obviously still had fun and loving times with them (they are in their mid 20’s now) but because I was their only full time parent it was my job to make sure they had routine and were taught manners etc.
I honestly feel King Charles role in their upbringing was as their primary carer so he had the job of teaching them right from wrong while Princess Diana got to play the secondary fun parent role.
Again, I absolutely loved and adored Princess Di so much but I feel King Charles was the boys mature role model.
Secondly I just want to point out that as a parent (especially as a parent of children who are now adults) I would never write a memoir filled with so many swear words and drug use (although I have never taken drugs so it would never contain drug use anyway) as when Harry’s children get older his children are going to read his memoir and it disgusts me that the legacy Harry is leaving for his children and future grandchildren etc is an immature and disrespectful (the way he refers to women throughout Spare is actually horrible, except when his references Meghan of course 🙄) memoir which will go into the Royal history books.
Harry honestly does act like he still is 12 years old!!
I hope that all makes sense, sorry my comment is so long.

So I made a decision to step back and take a break from the friendship for my own peace, and during that time she was killed in a car accident. At the point she died, we hadn’t spoken in months and I carried that guilt with me for a long time. So I do feel sympathy and sadness for Harry that he experienced this as a child. If only he’d read about those in similar circumstances. Look at what Jackie Kennedy did after Onassis died, she moved to NYC, got a job and walked to work everyday. Head straight ahead. She told her 2 kids to do the same. In addition, Ted’s youngest son Patrick (former US Rep or Senator from RI). He got a DUI and resigned and went rehab but then wrote a book. He wrote about saying your depressed in his family. The usual response was this one was assassinated then one was. Even his brother lost a leg to Cancer. So no one wants to hear his depression but it was his state of mind. He never said he had it the worst. However he has alcohol and drug use. He wasn’t whining. Just saying his family’s reaction. Which is typically Irish -“ you don’t know what you have…- but on the Kennedy level. Harry might gain from reading or reaching out to people if they’re still alive.
And Diana was a young mother and like all mom’s who are 20 years older than them. As opposed to 40 yrs older. He knew her from 20-34. She’d have grown and changed. But she had no friends so she leaned on Wills. (And H). He started this cr@p at an age older than she ever reached. You outgrow your 20s and if she had more kids in 30s or 40s, she’d be way more conservative. Just how it goes. I wished for a cool fun mom. But my mom was a mom b/c she was closer to 40. Anyway, it’s too bad she struggled in her 20s. And these two are hijacking her tragedy for their own. So he should read a book on his mom too. Despite it being modern times. She was the last of the virginal royal wives and they realized how archaic.
And funny how Camilla wants to send them where they sent Wallis and Edward during WW2. In Europe they were visiting Hitler, cavorting with all kinds ti his brother’s detriment. And after Governor of the Bahamas, they never got another assignment. So welcome to exile H. If he knew his own history, he’d get the reference. They must be searching for a place to stash these two. He is unknowingly repeating history. And sounds ridiculous.

When I actually do sit down and really think about him I can remember a lot more than i initially thought. The memories r there but after 50 yrs they r buried under a lot of other stuff but they r still there. Only thing is I can't remember his voice or his smell. There is a tape somewhere of him singjng and playing guitar maybe that has him speaking a bit. I would need to find it. So I understand a bit of what h has gone thru but I didn't have his background, financial security etc so cldnt afford to be totally absorbed in 'oh poor me' but it did give me alcohol and men probs for a lot of yrs. I have recently lost my ex partner who was in my life for 34 yrs, even tho we were apart we were still very, very close. I am not coping with this loss, infact in a way it is worse than losing my father probably because he was the main man in my life for nearly 3 times longer than my father. Life is a strange carry on. Just as u r getting the hang of it and enough knowledge to cope with most things flung at u then wham u r taken away. What is that about?! Honestly, what is that all about?

Diana was a lovely, spirited, compassionate woman.
Diana was also, troubled, selfish, and short sighted. She chose to not see the boys as much as she could have. She chose to be in that car that night. She called the paps. She had a terrible need to be seen.
Whatever happened between her and Charles. Which admittedly sounds awful. It was between her and Charles. Harry does see the world through a mirror. Only as a reflection of himself. I do feel sorry for the 12 yo little boy he was. But, he’s not Peter Pan. He has to grow up. All the therapy, drugs, and Markle glitter in the world cannot make that fact go away. Supposedly he has childhood now. For all his talk of not perpetuating generational trauma. He seems intent on bringing them up as the children of addiction.

Diana was a wonderful mother, she loved her boys with all her being, she taught them about service and she also showed them fun and people with hardships. Harry was 12, so for her to be with her boys for that short time she did wonderful. I remember all that she was going through. She was a strong woman, she had the world behind her but she also faced the world alone. Don’t take that from her.

Well said... I'd just turned 18yrs old & 3days away from giving birth to my first son the day Charles & Diana got married. I remember the engagement announcement with Charles saying 'whatever love means', so on the day of the wedding I had a feeling of 'like a lamb to the slaughter'!! Diana was a total innocent at the age she was & it must have been heartbreaking to realise your husband loves someone else, I'm not surprised she had 'issues'.. I remember going through similar but thankfully not in the public eye.. she gave both those boys the best start as is proven with William still working with the homeless - Harry 🤔 different ball game, even as a youngster he was always kicking out at folks shins & riding his bike into staff without being reprimanded. Yes Diana had her problems but I just wish Harry would let her go RIP..

Its so wild that harry made a big stink about asking permission before proposing. It isnt really about the permission. My fiance asked my parents for permission before proposing..not because he was worried they would say no or thought he literally had to, but as a way to recognize how important they are in my life and let them know he was going to. My BIL asked ME for my blessing because my sister and i are really close. You ask for someones blessing before proposing as an olive branch and then they say of course. Kind of like how you ask someone to marry you when theyve basically already told you that theyll say yes when you do. Does prince harry not realize that people do this even when they arent royal in whichever way is meaningful?

Sure, her agent took a cut, but $10K in legal fees is nothing to her. The entire project was supposedly 8 days with Meg required to be there for 3 whole days. Wonder what they would have paid for one of the leads on the show. Supposedly she already knew that she'd been written out of the next season of Suits.
