I have this weird head cannon about this song. This song takes place sometime after the events of Mario madness where DD is grieving the loss of his daughter(and bf too a extent) and during all of this NMI is taunting him on how he failed as a father, how HE failed to save her. Just something I think about.
I'll be transparent and say that the things that made me adore the original WIP from 2022 (the obviously placeholder but excellent instrumental breaks, and the heavier focus on letting holdnotes breath.) are not present or not as strong in this version. So I don't really think this rendition is my thing. That being said, do not let mine or anybody's personal preferences stop you from being extremely proud of this version- it is very technically impressive! I can't wait to see people who this version IS for enjoy the shit out of this.
I will update and say that while I DO agree with my words- that I think the WIP hits stronger emotionally and I wish this version had instrumental breaks within the song to take advantage of the emotional strength of the melody- the final minute and a half of this version is REALLY god damn good. Is it just me, or has No More Innocence become so much more powerful than ever before? I don't recall him being able to drag people out into the woods to leave them for dead, let alone those like Dearest who wouldn't have bought NMI's game for himself. Regardless of the reason, the opening cutscene and art of the overall song really set a creepy atmosphere. And the song compliments it really well.

Why was dearest dragged to the woods? and who is the crib for? was this during the early years of GF's childhood and NMI stole/killed Dearest's child? the picture hung on the wall on the second section shows Dearest with Mommy Mearest, who is holding an infant gf, so this might actually be likely

From what I know from the story NMI is actually Daddy Dearest brother but for some unknown reason Daddy Dearest trapped NMI in an old sonic Sega Sonic game. Daddy Dearest canonically is known for trapping people in games, so it isn't a surprise he did this to his brother. NMI began to change form into something resembling Sonic, NMI never forgave Daddy Dearest so in revenge he kidnaped GF (Daddy Dearest's daughter) causing Daddy Dearest to go and face NMI to save his daughter.

From what I know from the story NMI is actually Daddy Dearest brother but for some unknown reason Daddy Dearest trapped NMI in an old sonic Sega Sonic game. Daddy Dearest canonically is known for trapping people in games, so it isn't a surprise he did this to his brother. NMI began to change form into something resembling Sonic, NMI never forgave Daddy Dearest so in revenge he kidnaped GF (Daddy Dearest's daughter) causing Daddy Dearest to go and face NMI to save his daughter.
