If you're from Kentucky, I'm sure you'll have a tear or two. Don't we all?
MY OLD KENTUCKY HOME
by Stephen Foster
The sun shines bright in the old Kentucky home,
'Tis summer, the people are gay;
The corn-top's ripe and the meadow's in the bloom,
While the birds make music all the day.
The young folks roll on the little cabin floor,
All merry, all happy and bright;
By 'n' by hard times comes a-knocking at the door
Then my old Kentucky home, goodnight.
CHORUS
Weep no more my lady
Oh! weep no more today!
We will sing one song for the old Kentucky home,
For the Old Kentucky Home far away.
They hunt no more for the possum and the coon,
On meadow, the hill and the shore,
They sing no more by the glimmer of the moon,
On the bench by the old cabin door.
The day goes by like a shadow o'er the heart,
With sorrow, where all was delight,
The time has come when the people have to part,
Then my old Kentucky home, goodnight.
CHORUS
The head must bow and the back will have to bend,
Wherever the people may go;
A few more days, and the trouble all will end,
In the field where the sugar-canes grow;
A few more days for to tote the weary load,
No matter, 'twill never be light;
A few more days till we totter on the road,
Then my old Kentucky home, goodnight.
CHORUS Спорт
I married a Kentucky gal...EVERY year we watched the Derby watching her eyes tear up at this song is priceless...Im from Ohio and I too fell in love with Kentucky. It has its flaws for sure [ what state DOESNT?!]..Realized Kentucky is not a state...but a state of MIND. I practice medicine and its a good medical state...so this image of treating my friends, neighbors doing some good...like the old days..sitting on the porch in the evening , sippin, a nice small batch, nibblin on some Ruth Hunt chocolates, seersucker suit on Derby Day at the Oaks, Liquor Barn, worshipping The Good Lord above ..helping fundraising at the Carnegie Center in Lexington...Damn you Kentucky! Suckered me in to Bluegrass state of mind over a five minute song...thank you kindly for doing that, Im much obliged.
Born and raised Kentuckian. You can take a boy out Kentucky but will never take Kentucky out of the boy.
Gareld Kazee IIe that is the truth and glad to hear it said
Lol sounds like the jungle book
Gareld Kazee II Well thank heaven for it too
Gareld Kazee II Lol.
GOD BLESS KY!
Though I live in Florida, Kentucky forever in my heart.
Kentucky is one of the few states where you will still find all the visible beauty and sadness of the birth of a nation.
My heritage goes back to the early 18th century in the Bluegrass state. I am the first one to return after almost 70 years. It is by far the most beautiful state I've ever lived in. I will stay.
Nothing like the Bluegrass state. Kentucky has the most beautiful melody of all state songs.
Kind of sounds like Dixie
Now they are trying to take it away how sad
Never happen
I live in Tennesee we play banjo for our state song rocky top I like your song a lot I don’t live in Kentucky I love your Carson center in Paducah ky
I don’t care what anyone says,Kentucky is the most beautiful place on this earth not just the blue skies or Appalachian mountains but the spirit, the people, the love people have for their home state.its not a boring state it’s great!🇺🇸
I love Kentucky, there is no place like it on earth. I cry when I hear this lovely song too.
As someone who’s from Kentucky, thank you
DakotaDed as someone from Kentucky, your wrong. This place sucks we’re one of the poorest states in the union it sucks here in Louisville
You are right. If you are at Churchill Downs on the first Saturday in May!
Hey "King of Souls," that's just Louisville that sucks, rest of the state is awesome. Get outta there. Float past the Ky river palisades, hike the Red River Gorge, pull a monster small mouth bass out of the Elkhorn, then come talk to me about my state....you shut in.
Idk why but I bawl my eyes out when I hear my old Kentucky home...once a Kentuckian always a Kentuckian
Same for me......
True
I do too and I have never set foot in the state in all my 54 years on this rock.
Me too and I’m not from Kentucky!!

Born in Kentucky and raised across the world with my Dad being in the Army. One thing always rang true and even more so as I get older..No matter where I have to live for work, KENTUCKY will always be HOME!Some will never understand but My Old Kentucky Home (song and the Bluegrass herself) has a pull on your soul others will never understand. Thanks for posting this!
I really miss my old home right now. California is beautiful but for me Kentucky is home.

You’ll never meet anybody on earth like people from Kentucky. Best people on earth. Proud to call laurel county, Kentucky home🇺🇸
When Mississippi State played Kentucky at Lexington this song was played before the game and has stuck with me ever since. The wildcat band killed it and the view from the upper deck in the stadium was breathtaking.
dr_kingschultz93 OMG I WAS AT THAT GAME
A beautiful state !
I’m from Kentucky and proud
Same!
Ah i love my kentucky home 😍😍
You are so right about crossing that state line... no matter how tired I am after a long trip, crossing the border gives me a second wind. The air just seems fresher, the grass greener (bluer!), the world seems a better place.
Yep the grass bluer
Kentucky blood runs deep in my heart. Love my home state.
I'm not from Kentucky. I've never been to Kentucky. I don't even know much about Kentucky. What I do know, is that I listen to this (knowing the lyrics) and seeing these pictures, my eyes are welling up with tears.
Wow. Great stuff. Thanks for posting.
God bles Kentucky

I love ❤️ this song so much God bless Kentucky
Not a native, but a UK grad and this always reminds me of why I came to Kentucky.
Not a native, just a UK grad. I am touched by the connection Kyians have always had with Ky and the hold Ky has on past and current residents. It has that effect on me, and I find myself defending and promoting this state everywhere I can. Maybe it is natural beauty from East-West, or tremendous development at UofL and UK, but I for one believe this is one of the great states that the sun is just beginning to shine on
I had posted elsewhere how my mother used to rock me in the old rocking chair at home singing famous American folk songs and this is one of the songs that she used to sing to me.
I was in rupp arena last year when all the fans was singing this it was amazing all I can say is Kentucky is the best state in the whole union
I remember when I was a child I used to sing this song on chorus and it will get me emotional in a happy way.
I'm from Jersey And I feel somewhat connected with Kentucky through their basketball program my dream school is the university of Kentucky and I might be calling Kentucky my home in a few years!!
Drove across USA and through Kentucky pretty place and beautiful barns and horses
A beautiful rendition..reminds me of my working days at Keeneland.
Prideful experiencr
Amen
IM PROUD TO BE FROM KENTUCKY
Beautiful! I love my Commonwealth. I've lived here since birth and would rather live here than any place else. I am truly Kentucky proud!
Louisville KY. always remind us of the great Muhammad Olive may God rest his Soul!!!
Yes I love it too. It's so beautyful.
Kentucky Forever!
I moved to Paducah in Sept 1998 and had to return to Memphis TN in 2006.Every day I miss Kentucky to the point where there are times that I have to remind myself that I am NOT driving from Paducah to Mayfield,Barlow or Wickliffe .
I really miss my old Kentucky home.
doughesson my family from Paducah area, no place like it, i say that in a good way.😀
Benton, KY here. Western KY doesn’t get acknowledged in most Kentucky videos or even KET.
@@ryansturm1141 I used to pass through Benton all the time when my wheelchair bus route for Security Taxi wanted me to go down the Parkway to Lake City.
I always felt someone from Kentucky should sing this song at the Derby. Not just a famous artist that has no relationship to our state and the grand tradition it's most famous for.
I miss Kentucky
Just gorgeous!
I come from Massachusetts and this song is beautiful and makes me cry.
i miss kentucky i wish my parents never made me move to south carolina i miss my family, thunder over louisville, kentucky derbies, all my friends,my old church, and most o all i miss the smell of the fresh air down there
Home....Sweet Home ! You can feel history in the air when you travel The Commonwealth. One of the most beautiful places on earth, except for The City Of Louisville, the people are friendly and always make you feel welcome. I'm proud to be a Kentuckian. Louisville leaves a lot to be desired though. Politicians have messed up Louisville.
I love being a proud Kentuckian
I
It's Derby Day 2013 and I'm watching the activitivies on television from the W. Tx city of Midland, in the desert. I'm a Louisville native and spent most of the first 28 years of my life there. I've been a Texan for 35 yrs but still get homesick, sentimental, and teary eyed when the band strikes My Old Kentucky Home. I'll drink a Ky straight bourbon whishey toast to My Old Kentucky Home when the call to the post is sounded.
I live in Kentucky. I am a Tennessee fan. Please don’t hate
I would love to live in quaint Kentucky countryside. Nature is close to God and the verdant beauty of the landcsape is worth watching and exhilerating. The rejuvenating colours of spring and fall mesh up with the soul to lighten the burdens of life. The poignant poem written by Stephen Foster is a true reflection of the kentucky countryside and folk lore.
Kentucky Born, Kentucky Raised. Countless times I've heard this melody throughout the years, it never grows old. I'll live and die in this homeland of mine!
From Lewis County to Campbell County, KY will always be my home. We may not be the richest state but we sure are the prettiest.
You sure are, no other state even comes close to being as breath-takingly beautiful.
Are we talking about the same kentucky? Ehh maybe I just don't get out enough but yes there are simply some beautiful moments here
Love My Kentucky Home !
Me and the other seniors in my high school sung this in choir, and no joke, I actually was super close to crying. The song is so beautiful and it felt like a heartwarming message to graduation students. I’m a Kentuckian and I’m proud of it. ❤
I'm from Winchester, Ky. Clark County. We now live in Va. Kentucky is our home, and I miss it a lot. Miss drinking Ale8one as we call it "Swamp Water". Hope to be home for a visit next week. God a willin and the creek don't rise.
My home, sweet home, will always be in Kentucky. The bluegrass state!
Not a native, but have been here a long time. The state is great!
This song and this video reminds me so much of my sweet, lovely Grandma. We loved to go to the horse races together. I would help her pick the horses and she would make the bets. We won fairly often too! Our dream was always to go to the Kentucky Derby together some May day. That never happened, but Grandma you will always be in my heart and my memories of those beautiful days and the amazing person you were to me and still are. :-)
My family was here befor it was a state , and they be here way after im gone .. I keep the old ways of doing things so my kids and hopen ther kds will keep it going .. We cant let our old ways die to the new ways ..
Every time I hear this song i get teary eyed .. cause im a proud HillBilly .. I just wish more ppl would see it the way i do... we are one of the best states in this country, and i know i used to be a truck driver I've seen them all ...
i'm from Kentucky and god i'm proud of it
Man, I love my state... My old Kentucky home.(:
Born in Kentucky I will always be a Kentucky guy want to move back to Kentucky
I bet you can still smell the honeysuckle
And the homey back roads of horses and cattle grazing on green fields. Ahh, Kentucky is nice.
Yeah because watching white men get rich, not YOU mind, putting on a show of unpaid black athletes is something to be proud of
Like the good old days of Jefferson Davis
Wow. Such a beautiful display of a beautiful state. I was born and raised in Kentucky, and will die here. There is and never will be a home like Kentucky.
I am proud to be a Kentuckian!
Am I the only one that cried to this?
+Edward Xu No. If we don't cry, they know we are dead.
+Edward Xu everyone who listens to it cries. :"(
just watched UK kick ucla's ass -- this song puts a cherry on it
jay adams so true
Edward Xu No, you are not...A very touching video.
This song hits harder after those tornadoes.
I have lived near in kentucky all my life
A real grand ole song of American history penned by the incomparable Stephen Collins Foster, it's truly a deeply patriotic and haunting tune that will follow one through life. I used to play this on my old Horner harmonica back in old Hawaii when it was a U.S.Territory, one of my favorite masterpieces by Foster................
Love Kentucky! Coloradoan here
love from down here in Tennesee!
I've found that no matter where i go, i always love and miss kentucky more and more while i'm gone. This will always be my home, and i couldn't be happier.
idk bout the rest of yall but this song brings a tear to my eye everytime i hear it
The most beautiful video I’ve seen I live in Western Breckinridge County and it’s the most beautiful country I’ve seen
#KentuckyProud
I don’t understand why Mike Tirico, before the playing of my own Kentucky home at the 2021 Kentucky Derby, mentioned that this song continues to garner controversy? Please continue playing this song loud and proud.
@LazlosPlane
Thanks for your comment... this song is so special to those of us from Kentucky and it's hard for us to describe that feeling as well as you just did. MOKH is more than a state salue...it's a love song to a place, a home, a way of life and the people you know. :)
God bless america
@LazlosPlane Thank you for those lovely comments. I hope you can come to Kentucky some day. I think you'll like it. I can't imagine living anywhere else. I know everyone loves their home state. But, I'm blessed to be a Kentuckian. This song makes me cry no matter when I hear it. I think it's the most beautiful state song of all.
There's such a beautiful sadness to it. It has my heart totally. I'm glad it touches yours. You're an honorary Kentuckian!! You don't have to be here for that.
I lived in Kentucky when I was on the younger side about 0-5 had to move. Everytime I hear this I cry. Miss you my Old Kentucky home
I love this variation!
This morning she weeps, but not long. Kentucky Proud today and always!
I'm not even from Kentucky but dam what a tune, I am an American and love you Kentucky.
