- This lecture brings together the themes from the seminars via the prism of what is referred to as ‘Havana Syndrome’, or the alleged sonic attacks on the US Embassy in Havana, Cuba dating from 2016 onwards.
How did the uncertainty regarding these ‘health incidents’ accelerate speculation on the methods and causes of the so-called ‘attacks’ about inaudible vibration or unsound, and what does this teach us about the affective and epistemological dimensions of the sonic ecology of war.
About Steve Goodman
Steve Goodman, known as Kode9 (born 1973) is a Glasgow-born, London-based electronic music artist, DJ, and owner of the Hyperdub record label. An MC, The Spaceape, is a frequent collaborator.
Initially inspired by what he calls the “hardcore continuum”, he also draws on dub reggae, and was one of the founding members of the early dubstep scene (which he views as a continuation of developments originally stemming from UK Hardcore).
He appeared on the Grime compilation on Rephlex, and released two full-length albums: Memories of the Future and Black Sun (both featuring the Spaceape) on his own label Hyperdub.
Kode9 has a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Warwick and has published a book, Sonic Warfare: Sound, Affect, and the Ecology of Fear.

In Mikhail Gorbachev's 2019 book 'My Country and the World' he writes (in Chapter 25) "in the most advanced countries, beginning with the United States, efforts are underway to develop new kinds of weapons, including electronic, psychotropic, and others, based on principles that differ fundamentally from "classic" models." Our "Havana Syndrome" could be the result of some new "psychotropic" weapon - and not necessarily a Russian weapon.

Check this, I found out that the neighbor I have a problem with worked as an engineer for Raytheon until recently. I was able to shield myself from whatever he is beaming my way by ordering emergency blankets, the foil ones, off amazon and hanging them up between me and his property. It worked immediately. That totally makes me a foil hat conspiracy theory lunatic but idgaf I'm well armed and paranoid for a reason. His landlord said that was the employment he gave when he rented and showed his badges homeland security, and DOD. He just rented the place to rendezvous with his mistress too which is kinda funny. But I leave podcasts with anti China stuff playing all the time in my garage which set him off. Why would someone with DOD clearance have loyalty to China? We are in big trouble, this country is screwed.
This has been happening to me in my house for about 3 years now. All I have to do is move and it stops. I will rearrange my furniture so that I sit and sleep in a different spot and it will take them a few days to refocus on me again.

I remember reading about sonic weapon's used for crowd dispersal years ago. This information, while certainly frightening, is far from unbelievable.

Very late 90s/early 00s there were news stories about antiloitering devices being used where teenagers were congregating. The devices were emitting an unheard frequency that was particularly unpleasant to adolescents.

The bug noise may actually be the miracle ear part of the signal. It conditions the ear to receive specialized audio.

The devices used to create 'The Havanna Syndrome' is NOT any kind of sonic device per say.
This syndrome is most likely created by highly directional, pulsed, modulated broad-spectrum microwaves with high energy content.
This scheme will create, among other effects, the SENSATION of sound when affecting the aural system and brain tissue. This is referred to as 'the Frey effect' after Allan H Frey.
Ultrasonic devices aren't effective at distance but can create the same aural sensation. Not the other symptoms reported.
The pointy side of the device used is probably built like a long tube consisting of some sort of high power magnetron, waveguide and a narrow horn. In addition to this a powersupply capable of delivering short bursts of energy in multi kW range is needed in addition to control electronics. Will fit comfortably in a small vehicle or can be easily transported in a few crates and quickly assembled for use in an office across the street.

In all my years of enduring this there have been moments when ohysical evidence appears in the distance. Fir instance once i overheard a kind of suction cup with a speaker being fixed to a floor above me. It created a vibration of sound or 0hysucal vibration. I think it mediated a mean vibration from which other sounds could be isolated.
I think this evolved to soundless speaker use via laser or narrow beam.
I also believe in my research and observstion that its reciprical. To and back and the audio is amplified and condutioned in this back and forth of sound and signal.
For instance hiw can a petson be listened to in a loud environment. ?
If all the sound in the area is taken uin and retured to the sender a mean siund can be created that us of the target or the loudest point of noise audio creating it. Once this us fixated in a single stream filaments can be separated from the stream. This allowing monitiring un a very loud environment.
Lets say a truck. If i collect all sounds from a operating truck and smooth it all out to a mean sound. I can then add sound to that source or remove delective sounds frim that source. I can also change the selected siund ti a frequency not clise to the mean so its less mixed or less echoed and mire distinguished in isolation.

This attack is a result of experimentation that started in 1928.
The west went with transmition from machine to machine. The Russuans wanted to transmit from machine to person and person to machine.
That has been Rusdian research frim that point on. All of the psychic mind readers from Russia and Vietnam are machine to person.

Thus last statement that ears are affected us not right. A miracle ear can tune the ear drum to not be affected by the ultrasonic blast to the head. That ststement is 100 percent incorrect.
