wow been waiting for this for long..... could never get my mic/headset sorted for talk back always got feedback.... thanks Tim.... this is a life saver... please do more of these type of videos or even live sessions where we can ask questions...
How can you make it latch? That is, press it once to turn on, and a second press to turn it off? I realise you can do this with two keys but a latching function on one key would be great.
Hi Tim! I found a nice way to stream to instagram and other platforms at the same time with vmix, I haven’t found any other software to do this. If you want I can show you, it’s going to be a great tutorial video and nice publicity for vmix
Hi could make this talkback automaticaly for all video call or i have to do manual each time i put a call? Because would be very nice if you in some update could put this talkback for all videocalls
That's a good point. So far no you can't. You have to manually update your shortcuts each time and create as many identical shortcuts for EACH vMixcalls. Because vMix shortcuts are static and not dynamic. You should add your +1 to this feature request on the forum which would allow this and many other things when it comes to using shortcuts and controllers. forums.vmix.com/posts/t17512-Dynamic-Inputs-and-Functions-for-Shortcuts
This procedure will allow to back-talk with a single Caller. Is it there a way to create a "back-room" (not in master) where all the callers can talk eachother, and the host can hear all of them and "push to talk", and then with a shortcut move single caller to the master audio?
Buses A and B are the green room channels. Callers' audio to buses A+B, and enable Master when they are going live. Producer talkback mic to bus A. Producer bus B soloed to headphones (mix-minus hack so that producer doesn't hear itself). Callers' return audio default from bus A. Change return audio channel to Master if you don't want to disturb them e.g. during presentation. Add shortcuts along this video for toggling producer's mic audio altogether.
Question is there a way to setup a output signal on which I can setup the main output + additional signal like a timer or a script via output 2 to the monitor and vmix call?
Hi Josue...I know it’s been 7 months, but were you able to figure out. What I’m doing for our news production class is I have an input that is NDI of program feed, then I’m combining that with the timer and an input of a second monitor, which is full screen zoom and with a students shared screen running teleprompter. I combined all these into 1 input with the prompter full screen, smaller program on bottom right and smaller timer bottom left. Then I set this as the output 2 and sending to the anchors on vmix call. Only issue is if the prompter persons internet lags.
Does anyone know if you can create a shortcut for a microphone to be sent to a specific bus, and then vice versa? (I.e press down -> mic gets sent to bus g -> call source changed to bus g)
Just what I was looking for. It won't work with keyboard as you can set a key to press and un press. Any ideas how to make it work with 2 different keys?
It's not in the title templates. But I could just import that MOV and use it in a live production by overlaying it. You can create anything you like in your NLE and import video/audio into vMix after exporting. No direct plugin usage from NLEs or CG editors.
Yeah, it's nice when you have a single vmix caller but it's quite a lot to setup if you need to talk to several ones individually or have a group talk-back feature. I will experiment on this but my current way to deal with it with manual switching of busses seems more versatile even though it requires more attention... Tim's suggestion would be great though if one day this feature request I did for dynamic inputs and functions is implemented... Would allow with only 4 shortcuts to switch easily between callers (for example) forums.vmix.com/.../t17512-Dynamic-Inputs-and...
Group talk back isnt difficult. What I did is make bus G the 'Green Room'. All vimix calls set to use Bus G by default not to mains. All vmix calls can talk to each other and our stage manager who is coming in on NDI (since she in the home studio with me). Producers station then has a shortcut like the video to key into bus G and Solo Bus G into my headphones, so I can talk to everyone and listen to responses. The only trick, gotta remember to set vMix outputs to mains when they come on screen.
@@StonewolfStudios Not sure I can do this via NDI in my setup. I am having a devil of a time getting the producer in a conversation with multiple callers. I have set triggers to that place the callers on Bus B via VideoCallAudioSource and have set the production mic (not the main host mic but that which is used for talk back) to Bus B via the trigger AudioBusOn On Transition out I have the callers VideoCallAudioSource set to Master (M) and mute the production mic The callers and studio can hear each other and go out to the stream on transition out without issue but they tell me they cannot hear each other while in “standby”. In Audio Mixer the levels are showing as green. The callers can hear each other but not the producer. Do you have some screenshots you can share, please?
@@LiveMixMastery Hey there. So what we do: We send video output 4 back to the vMix callers. We then create a multiew input that has all callers and producer in it and then send that to Output4. We then send output 3 to the producer station which has a mix multiview output. We actually sometimes set triggers that actually change output 4 when on air to also have a flashing on air back through the vMix call as well.
@@LiveMixMastery Sorry also did see th read more. Suggestion, set the host Mic to be push to talk only (I do this with a stream deck so I have a PTT per bus). Maybe add a bus layer? We generally leave the 'backstage' bus live all the time. When someone comes onstage, just add a mains on trigger and change their audio return to the bus that is jsut them. Then your green room doesn't have to change and you are just changing what you send back to each caller when they come onstage.
I'll save you guys the trouble and instead of using this confusing and somewhat buggy AudioCallSource button just use function audio on/off for your producer mic and route its channel to the bus/buses where you have your guests.
thanks for the tutorial, been doing this for quite a while. very effective :) should help a lot of people!! but where can we watch the reading of yes we have no bananas????
Does vMix call work on an Intranet, out only the Internet? Just thinking about using Call to do talkback to camera ops using a program output as VT Return with Producer/Director mic, and a tablet with headphones output for the camera ops.
@@Dwamtv - That implies it has to communicate with a server somewhere to function. Which leads to wondering if that server is secure, or the traffic going through it kept 'Private and Confidential'. I think my solution is going to involve NDI viewers on Android devices, with the audio done like the method in this video, but assigned to the NDI output.
@@PiDsPagePrototypes Check vMix forum if you want to fully understand how vMixCall works, why, how and when it uses a stun server... It's all explained... FYI, there is also an option which tells you if the traffic is direct between peers or not... Regarding your idea of going through NDI for the same thing, I think it's possible but far more complex, bandwidth consuming, ressource hungry and Push to Talk won't be the most difficult part when it comes to audio (mix minus). Have fun!
Usually I set my desktop capture input to Output 4 and then use the 2nd recorder to record it. Or I might use another computer to record via NDI if I need the 2nd recorder for something else.
I love the fact that you guys are involved in the tutorials of your company but I must say as someone who has almost zero experience your tutorials are somewhat incomplete and confusing at times. Especially the NDI tutorial and this one. Maybe you could explain things more clearly and slowly. Still props for doing the videos though, and thank you.

do you have a tutorial to configure the akay apc mini buttons and how to turn on the lights?

Hi Tim. Will a AKAI APC20X220 COMPACT PROFESSIONAL CONTROLLER work for the talkback setup of vMix?
If it supports MIDI it should, but we don't have any experience with that model to confirm.

Is it available on the web controller?
How can you do this without external hardware? As In using a keyboard?
You could just use keyboard keys when setting up the shortcut.

Absolutely
keyboards don't have a push and release option, so you'd need an n key and an off key.

its exactly the same process. you just need to fill in your stresmdeck keys with generic vXmix buttons
