  • An honest vlog about why I'm changing my career path and leaving law school at age 23... I realize this is a long video, but it was not a topic I wanted to skim over or make seem like no big deal. The decision to change my career path and leave law school have weighed heavily on my life for the past two years. I'm honestly sharing how I arrived at the decision and how I'm feeling today.
I hope this can be a reminder for anyone who needs it that there is more to life than feeling miserable and trapped in the day-to-day. It is never to late to make necessary, difficult changes to improve yourself and your life. Thank you for being here and for all your support! xo, Kristen

Kristen!!! I'm so proud of you for making this decision!! I went through something similar in college with changing my major. I was a business major in a really difficult and prestigious program that you had to apply for once you were already in college, but after I got in, I absolutely hated it. Even before I applied to the major, I didn't really know why I was doing it, and once I was there, that became even more clear because I hated all of my classes and none of them aligned with what I wanted to do. I ended up changing to a journalism major during my junior year, which was pretty late in the game, and I received a lot of judgment for it, but ultimately I was so much happier and don't regret the decision at all. Your mental health matters more than the prestige of the degree!!

So GLAD you decided on not continuing. I would recommend the book “so good they cant ignore you” by cal newport. It agrees w your decision 100 and backs it up with good reasoning and data. Made my career life so much clearer too.

Good for you! It's scary but when you have that voice telling you that this is not your path, listening to it is the very best thing you can do! Excited to see where this new chapter takes you. Thank you for posting this video -- my daughter is 21 and learning that her planned career is not actually what she wants also. It's a tough transition and I appreciate you being so open and real so that others can find their way forward as well 💜💜💜💜💜

I can relate to you so much! I came across your vid just now, because I also withdrew from law school but I only lasted 4 months. I went immediately from graduation too. Thank you for making me feel validated. Ever since I was. young, law school was the end goal and I couldn't think of anything else. Primarily, because it was my dad's dream. I think I convinced myself eventually that it was what I wanted too, since I had no big passion anyway. But I could relate so much to you harboring that internal feeling of something that didn't feel right. I'm also goal-oriented and I'm not the type to quit easily, but I also felt so miserable in law school and deep down, I knew this wasn't what I had envisioned for myself. So I decided to withdraw... it really took a lot of convincing but I just wanted to stop crying every day and the anxiety was really bad.
You're right, nobody knows how hard it is until you're actually in law school. I dont think my past self could have ever prepared me for the rigor. I hope I can find my first job next year, January! I'm still feeling lost and I can't help but feel like a failure now, but I hope I can look back on this one day without any regrets. Truly, it is an unpopular decision, but I agree that life is too short to spend it in a career you're not happy with.
I hope you're doing better now! God bless

Glad to hear you made this big decision before becoming mired in debt or stuck in a career you didn't like. I am an attorney who frequently thought about quitting back when I was working for different law firms and struggling as a solo practitioner. Luckily things worked out but I know plenty of people who quit the profession, both voluntarily or involuntarily. Best wishes with your business.

I've known several people who got law degrees and did not practice law, they did other things, it's not a great career
