This is the theme from my favorite move, "Local Hero". This performance is only topped by Mark Knopfler, himself. Beautiful job. Can't believe there are any thumbs downs.
The very hairs on the back of my neck rose... and I flicked away some...tears. Awesome. ( I am a Brit from Dorset, part of the Scots UK I will have you know. Don't go, Scots, please. We need you all).
My papa was in the air force he love being in the air force this song makes me feel a little sad but happy to like as a reminder that he is looking out for me and he knows that I still remember the good times we did had and he is telling me don't cry I am still here with you thank you papa for your embrace in my memories and you being here in my mind in my heart and in my soul I love you so much you will not be forgotten love you bye
Just so honoured to live in the same era as Mark Knopfler. Never heard "Local Hero" played in this way. Just incredible. Sent shivers down spine. Would love to know what Mark thinks of this
Such a beautiful tune, and the film Local Hero is a wee bit of a tear jerker at the end . Filmed in the Highlands of Scotland .Burt Lancaster was one of the cast .
Love this. Love them. Love him. Here's how I discovered Mark: my husband loves bagpipes. Four years ago, he was scrolling through bagpipes here on You Tube. I caught sight of a title, Royal Scots Regiment, featuring Mark Knopfler. I said, Knopfler, I know that name. I began playing Mark. Not a day since (hardly) that I don't listen to him. I have half his CDs, I'm working on the rest.
I learned this tune, Mark Knopfler's "Going Home", (the theme tune from the film 'Local Hero' ) to play solo on the pipes, after being given a DVD of a previous Invercargill concert, when I was in Australia in 2009. Great tune on the pipes ! Thanks Invercargill - well played - great concerts !
Love this tune, always have, well done Invercargill, (mums) home town and family still live there, My youngest born in Winton Maternity Hospital 6 years ago, although North islander born and bred I consider myself a Southlander by heart so always interested in Invercargills great band, if someone does have some written music for the pipes for this tune I would gratefully love to receive a copy as I am not experienced enough to learn something by ear yet, still getting there, cheers for the great recording..loved it
I mean the music was good but the audio quality was some of the worst I've ever heard especially with the crackling and over exposure. Also why are are you using underscore instead of spacebar
Great to see you back Warren. Well played. Long road from Kingswell. Looked a good show. Catch you up when the "Calies" /ILTCoIHPB come North to see to the locals!
prove it. going home and amazing grace are English. "Amazing Grace" is a Christian hymn published in 1779, with words written by the English poet and Anglican clergyman John Newton (1725-1807). Newton wrote the words from personal experience. He grew up without any particular religious conviction, but his life's path was formed by a variety of twists and coincidences that were often put into motion by his recalcitrant insubordination. He was pressed (conscripted) into service in the Royal Navy, and after leaving the service, he became involved in the Atlantic slave trade. In 1748, a violent storm battered his vessel off the coast of County Donegal, Ireland, so severely that he called out to God for mercy, a moment that marked his spiritual conversion. He continued his slave trading career until 1754 or 1755, when he ended his seafaring altogether and began studying Christian theology.AND WAS ALSO A BAPTIST SONG (OF WHICH MY LATE FATHER TAUGHT ME TO PLAY ON PIANO) OF WHICH, THEY SANG AS THE FIRST HYMN OF THE SUNDAY SERVICE........... SORRY TO BURST YOUR PATRIOTIC BULLSHIT BUBBLE..... ITS ENGLISH END OF \O/As for going home..........Following a string of three multi-platinum albums with Dire Straits-Dire Straits (1978), Communiqué (1979), and Making Movies (1980)-Knopfler, the group's lead singer, guitarist, songwriter, and producer, began to look for new musical challenges and opportunities. In early 1982, his manager wrote to several film directors indicating that Knopfler was interested in writing film music. Producer David Puttnam responded, and after reviewing the Local Hero project, Knopfler accepted the job.[5][6] Following the completion of Dire Straits' fourth album, Love Over Gold, recorded from 8 March to 11 June 1982, Knopfler began work on the film's music. He invited Gerry Rafferty to be the lead vocalist on the song, "The Way It Always Starts". In 2000, Rafferty invited Knopfler to provide rhythm guitar and lead fills on what would be his final studio album, Another World.
ronald mcdonald Knopfler was born in Glasgow, he took Dvorak's No. 9 Symphony (New World - Largo) and rearranged it for the end title theme "Going Home". The lyrics to Dvorak's Largo was written by an American.
Absolutely wonderful, sends a shiver up my spine every time I listen to it. Superb! A bit of a long shot but any idea where I can find sheet music for the pipes for this ? I've looked hi and low and can't find it anywhere :S Many thanks :)
Mr. Hall; Were you ever able to get the pipe setting for this performance? Did you find a source? I have only a part of it. Would like the remainder if possible. Thanks Gerry Dibble PM MRPPD
There are some attempts online you can find, first two lines are right then with some tweaking you can work it out. Play along with it took me a couple of weeks but you'll sort it out.
Steffiluren: Seriously?! The bagpipes are what make the song what it actually is! This song was meant for bagpipes. It's a Celtic/Scottish piece of music. I have no Idea what you're talking about mate. Cheers.
Wow! What a great tribute to such a great song! Mark would be proud!
the Scotts must be PROUD of their pipe bags.. ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!

Bela homenagem da Escócia para Mark K!!! Todos paramentados com seus Kilts e com suas gaitas de folle. Perfeito! Adoro 🎸🎸🎸❤️🏴🇬🇧
Very Well done, one and all. I think Mr. Knopfler would be pretty happy with that. Any day is better when you throw some pipes into the mix. 👍🏻😀
