There are several very fine versions of the piece out there. This is one of the most soulful I've heard and the first on clarinet. Usually on soprano or tenor sax. Anat Cohen is not familiar to me but I will seek out her music from here on.
One of my favorites written by Jimmy Rowles on piano and accompanied by Stan Getz on the album Stan Getz presents Jimmy Rowles, which is outstanding in every song played. A real classic all jazz lovers should possess. I stumbled upon this great version and was so happy that I did. Outstanding 👏💜🙏
Special mention needs to be made of Fred's truly masterful and sublime piano playing. Anat and Fred have together propelled this gem to a divine level!
It's lovely but by far the best version of this is by the unsurpassable genius of Stan Getz on sax and Bill Evans on piano, those two bring out the true beauty of this composition in my opinion.
I'm very much a fan of that version, but 'by far' does a great injustice to the Getz version with the composer Jimmy Rowles himself on piano. Both tremendous recordings of a colossal tune.
I was fortunate to catch Jimmy Rowles periodically a few decades ago at LA SFV jazz supper clubs I use to frequent 'Often Jimmy would be playing with his daughter, Stacy Rowles on trumpet & Stacy sang beautifully as well -Jimmy worked with so many greats from Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Ella, Peggy Lee, Carmen, Tony Bennett, etc.. etc... incl. coaching a young Diana Krall & Jimmy worked with the best musicians on this planet as Jimmy was a Well seasoned perfectionist at his craft.....
Awesome interpretation. the sounds so calibrated, some Debussy air and it stays around creating an incomparable atmosphere of looking for more of the kind. anat's sound comes so naturally!
I reconsider. This performance is the most moving of the two. The interplay between Hersch and Cohen is utterly wonderful. It's what JAZZ DOES. Beauty moves between two human souls in the moment! So Touching!
There is also a great version of this song by the German saxophonist Gerd Dudek on his album S'matter, which is the first version I encountered, and the song has put the hook on me ever since.
I never, get tired of listening to you two. Wow. Brilliant. Anat, the passion

Drop dead gorgeous rendition of a GREAT song. Anat and Fred find all the beauty in Mr. Rowles's classic.
Words cant describe how peaceful this is to the human ear 👏🏾. Just amazing!!
hope and heartbreak in one tune?

No way, I love his playing. One of the greatest pianists of our times

Awesome piano chords and a superb artistic achievement.
How does one express in words such a soulful and powerful rendition by Anat, of this timeless beauty!
Masterfully gorgeous...sublime, illusive....the combination of Hersch and Cohen produce a creation all its own................

Fine work, Gerald Beckett has done a sweet flute version.
Superb. Only the performance by Getz and Rowles is more haunting.
