    Bought myself the ZR2 Bison in black. Gorgeous truck. Even more mean looking than the ZR2 but I absolutely could not get one in diesel. They were moon rocks and did not exist in my tristate area around my home state of Ohio. Lots of fun and absolutely gorgeous regardless.

      From NE PA to NYC to NJ, diesel Colorado trucks, regardless of trim level, are very rare. The price of admission is too high as well, as you need to get a Crew Cab for a non-ZR2, which is more money than an Extended Cab, and then there is additional cost for the long bed. I would love an extended cab diesel Colorado, but don't want a ZR2 - too expensive, no fog lights (heavy fog in mountains), no bumper step (I'm short), and less towing (I have a ton of toys).

    Its a VM Motori diesel engine folks.... A cousin to the Jeep VM Motori diesel R428. When Penske sold 50% of Motori to GM the R was upgraded into the A428. Then Fiat bought the remaining half of VM Motori from Penske. GM sold its sold its stake to Fiat but kept the license to build the engine. GM then built the plant in Thailand to manufacture whats now the Duramax LWM.

    I have the Z71 Duramax 4x4 and must say I'm very impressed.....Not so much the rest of the truck but Chevy hit a home run on this motor tranny combo....The truck isn't that bad it's just that the baby Duramax is that good! On the interstate cruising along at 75 MPH I was getting 28 MPG! That was with the truck loaded down with gear and people. I have no idea why there aren't more of these on the road? Maybe smaller truck guys aren't keen on a diesel.....but I'm telling you that if you are looking for fuel economy in a mid-sized truck you won't do any better. By the way, I purchased this as a dealer demo. It already had 4000 miles on it. Low 30's is not at all expensive for an oil burner!

    Pull the two plastic plates in front of the transmission cooler. Your transmission will run 15-20 deg F cooler even when towing. Pull the zr2 skid plate out 4 bolts and them damn plates wiggle out the bottom. 225 deg towing is too much!!!!
    I love my ZR2 and Samantha helped me church it right up with a Tow tune and transmission tune.

  • @billness2635
    @billness2635 5 лет назад +3

    Not sure why anyone who wants towing capability would buy the ZR2 that’s limited to 5000lbs. The Z71 with the same drivetrain has a 7700lb capacity. I can only hazard the reasons why, but I’m thinking it’s because of the ZR2’s height and suspension.

    I just picked up a used 2018 Z71 with the baby D-Max. Never been a Chevy guy, stuck mainly with Ford, but I absolutely love this truck so far! Named mine Cindy. It is very capable and has enough power to do most anything needed, but the fuel economy is outstanding. I drive a lot for work but wanted to get back into a truck. Awesome video! Sweet looking truck. I've been interested in the diesel engine as far back as I can remember. I've heard of people saying that diesel is noisy. I reckon it can be if revved up and while accelerating. But at idle, it's not excessively noisy. I can think of a few vehicles that would benefit from a small displacement (smaller than 3.0 litres) turbo diesel engine. :)

    you mentioned the GCVW is 10,700 and max trailer weight is 5000 lbs but i think that is for the gas engine. GCVW for diesel is 12,600/12,700 lbs depending on configuration and max tow rating is 7,700/7,600 depending on configuration. These numbers are very confusing because even though they list as max tow rating 7,700/7,600 max trailer, if the GVWR of the truck is 6,200 and the GCVW is 12,600/12,700 then the max trailer rating can only be 12,700-6,200=6,500. Not sure why manufacturers do that because it's misleading to say the max trailer towing capacity is 7,700/7,600.....Cheers

    You neglected to mention the biggest NEGATIVE point about the 2.8 Duramax--it has a timing belt, not a timing chain, that has to be replaced at 150K miles. That is around a $1,000-$1,500 job. That cost alone erodes a lot of the fuel cost savings of the more efficient diesel. The Duramax 2.8L diesel is also not a new design. The basic engine is the same as the VM Motori 2.8 CRD that was sold in MY2005 and MY2006 Jeep Liberty CRD's. I own one of those--the engine is OK, except for the stupid timing belt design, and GM, in its "infinite wisdom" repeated that mistake in the 2.8 Duramax. No, the Chevy salesman won't tell you that . . . Like all 2007+ diesels, the 2.8 Duramax also has all the issues with DPF/SCR, including no way to do a stationary regen without a diagnostic tool that will initiate it. Only Ford has been smart enough to make a stationary regen option available on just some of their US diesel models. I've been around diesel engines for about a half-century, but I wouldn't buy another one until some of the emission and other design nonsense changes.

    • @Encourageable
      @Encourageable 5 лет назад

      HumpDay01 if you have to worry about the cost of fuel then you shouldn’t buy it because you can’t afford it. Is there any evidence that a timing belt is a problem? Or are you just repeating a competitors critique? And there are no pervasive transmission problems - that’s BS. Troll fail - again.

    • @HumpDaddy01
      @HumpDaddy01 5 лет назад

      @@Encourageable obviously you know nothing of these vehicles or engines in general. There are currently lawsuits against gm for the 6spd and 8spd trans in these trucks. Timing belt has no place in a diesel at all! The new 3.0 diesel in the F-150 has one too, not gonna be cheap to change! A main argument for a diesel is efficiency but given the extra costs for the fuel it becomes irrelevant! The fact that you don't know or understand any of this is a sure sign of your stupidity!
