I love your work, but I really love your channel! You are so generous with your time and knowledge, I especially enjoy you sharing your gallery exhibition videos. But This was so fun and unexpected from you! I love the compressed values at the midpoint of the painting. Reminds me a tiny bit of Uribe but definitely your own flavor! Thank you for sharing!

      I love Uribe's work, that's a huge compliment! Thank you :)

Great painting, Christina! It's really helpful to see your process. I was amazed at how dark you make your initial shadow shapes and how the shapes evolve.

Thanks Karen! Yes, I usually start with initially very dark shapes, since it is easier to lighten them later but hard to go the other way (if it's alla prima)

Amazing as always. Could I ask what you were doing in the pass with the pallet knife please?

Thank you! I use the palette knife primarily for two things, first, to change the texture of the paint (smoothing out brush strokes) and second, to change the edges between shapes (using the knife either to smear paint and blur edges, or to create very crisp edges). I find this creates more variety in the marks on the canvas, which to me is interesting to look at.

Wow I really liked watching your process, I love the muted colors and the overall feeling of the portrait !
Can I ask you if you use any medium in the process ? I try to not use any toxic stuff but sometimes I wonder if it’s possible haha. Thank you

Thank you! For this one (and many of my paintings) I didn't use any medium, so it is definitely possible!

Gamblin makes a non-toxic medium called their Solvent-free fluid!
