The PS5 is worth it for the QOL improvements you get from playing PS4 games alone. Games run at their targeted frame rate with absolutely no drops, loads quicker by a huge margin, and best of all, the console doesn't sound like a plane turbine even with the most demanding games. It's what the PS4 Pro should've been

I literally sourced a PS5 to play Uncharted and The Last of Us series at 60FPS in their entirety (at least at this point in time). One thing you mentioned, which is definitely true, is that the console is very quiet. I've been playing The Last of Us Part II at 60FPS (absolutely night and day to 30FPS) and I can't even hear the PS5 running.

One of the biggest reasons I'm happy to own a PS5 is how prevalent and ubiquitous the 60 FPS framerate target has become. It has incredibly quickly become the industry standard, and as somebody who used to think it wasn't that big of a deal, I've been converted completely. 60 FPS is incredibly important to gamefeel and smoothness of the image.
I'll also say, sure, if you wait the console will become cheaper, in like 3 or 4 years, and only by $100. You wouldn't pay $100 to have a PS5 4 years early? If you spend much of your time gaming I don't see how that's so much of a compelling trade off. People spend $1000 on their phones. Gaming consoles aren't even expensive relative to other technologies.

You don’t notice as much of an upgrade from PS4 to PS5 because of the PS4 pro. Comparing base PS4 to PS5 is still quite a significant jump. Not as much as PS2 to PS3, but games are running at higher resolutions and at 60fps so a lot of the performance is getting directed towards those targets than just pure visuals

You only have to compare a DVD movie to a 4K video game. DVDs are SD and 24-25fps and games can be 4K 60fps but the DVD is more photo realistic which I prefer.

The closest to PS Home we have currently is VR Chat, which can be played on a normal PC without a VR headset (I played PS Home a bit when it originally launched). I have been playing VR chat a bunch recently with the original Vive headset and enjoying the minigolf worlds. If you don't mind the kids, furries and edge lords then it's quite fun, and occasionally meet some cool people and have some awesome experiences. I was up till 3AM playing an escape room for 1 and half hours with a couple of random people I just met playing minigolf, some British guy and a Finnish girl, it was pretty cool.
Something like that would work well on PS I would think, although it would be a lot more closed off and moderated than VR Chat, which is like the wild west internet repackaged as a first person game. Some really good things, a lot of not so good, a lot of memes and half finished or amateur things but it has its charm.

I don't think many people understand how significant of a jump from PS4 to PS5 is in terms of clarity, resolution, and playability. Comparing screenshots of games between the both hardly do it justice and honestly the PS4 is holding back progress of making games more feature rich. It really sucks that PS5s STILL are not widely available because if it was, we'd see games taking advantage of said hardware much more. I remember the transition from PS3 to PS4, same with Xbox, being pretty sudden in terms of a lot of studios choosing to be "next gen" only. With that said, Sony really needs a way of removing the FPS cap and boosting the resolution like what MS is doing with their new consoles. It goes a long way when you can make last gen games look better without dev input.

I absolutely love my ps5. Play it everyday. I never had a ps4 so my backlog is pretty long at this moment and I’m able to catch-up on a lot of games that I’ve always wanted to play. The only issue I’ve had was the rest mode bug where my console would not turn back on after coming out of rest mode. It’s happened 4 times in the past 5 months since I’ve had it and hasn’t happened for awhile so I believe it’s been fixed. 🤞🏻 the locked 60fps on games has spoiled me. Lol when I play my Xbox one, all the games just look choppy as hell.

I've had my PS5, since day one and it's easily my second favourite console. My favourite obviously is the PS2. However, I've had numerous problems with it. Firstly, I do have stick drift, on my duelsense. Although, it's very minor. Completely unnoticeable when playing. The only reason I know I have it is because of the lock picking segments in Judgement. It's very difficult to complete them, as the stick spazzes out on screen, which is very frustrating. Speaking of the analog stick, on the left thumbstick some of the rubber has peeled off, on the top right.
My problems relating to the console are as follows. A laggy UI, way too many button presses to message someone, my console underperforming in games, like Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered and Miles Morales, as in I get frame drops and stutters, which I've seen no one else encounter. And finally, the biggest issue of them all, my disc drive is broken. The disc likes to frequently get stuck in the console when attempting to eject it and it starts making this loud ticking noise. The best way to solve this problem is to grab another disc, shove it in there, wiggle it around a bit and then the disc ejects. Thankfully, as blu ray and UHD blu ray discs are very durable, they don't scratch. Although the disc is very hot, when it comes out of the console, but I think that's normal.

I really look after my stuff, keep them clean, don't rage or throw things etc, but my controller's L2 button is broken, the spring went while i was playing Uncharted of all things, the left stick is wearing and the right stick has drift. In roughly a year. My PS4 controllers were used far more often and are still flawless. The battery life is also trash on the Dual Sense. I get 6 hours if I'm lucky, and that's from full with everything turned off/down lowest, even with my not broken one. I also find it too big and heavy and I get fatigue in my hands from using it, but I could play 15 hours straight with the PS4 controller with no extra charge needed and no pain. To each their own but I'm not a fan, and I don't appreciate needing to replace controllers so quickly either.

On the PS3, 3rd party games often struggled due to the complexity of the CELL processor. On the other hand, Sony was much more prolific with regards to AAA 1st party titles during the PS3 generation (Uncharted 1-3, Killzone 2 & 3, Resistance 1-3, The Last of Us, Infamous...).
Buggy and unfinished games on the PS4 is not an issue related to that specific console, but merely a reflection of a general trend within the entire industry to "Ship Now, Patch Later". I'd argue that the PS4 version of 3rd party games was generally the least buggy version, something that probably was due to the fact tha the PS4 had the largest player base, and therefore received the most amount of playtesting!

Unlike with the transition with PS3 to PS4, PS5 can seamlessly (for the most part) read PS4 discs. And so, if customers can’t afford the $70 titles, they can wait for the sale and in the meantime purchase/experience the vast library that’s still at large with the PS4.

Game startup, reload, and fast travel time reduction alone made it worth the purchase price for me.

Not having folders or other means of customizing the main menu is my only complaint. My ONLY one...so that makes me realize how much I love the PS5

PS5 feels much more like "next gen" than PS4 did in 2013 imo. Only thing PS4 had going for it was much better graphics than PS3, but that's it. PS5 has better graphics, plus faster loading, wayyy better controller, very quiet console, etc.
Not to disparage the PS4 improvements. I remember being in awe when playing the PT demo in 2014 with those graphics. PS5 just feels like a better all-rounder when it comes to upgrades.
My only real issue is backwards compatibility with PS3, but that's become a PlayStation as a whole issue and not specifically PS5.

The PS5 really is a great console. Pretty much every game looks amazing and plays well too. Some of the exclusives aren't for me, but there are so many good ones from Sony and 3rd parties. I've found myself being more of a PC player these days, but luckily my capture card negates that problem. I'm just glad I have one and got it at launch without going through a scalper.

Completely agree. It's win-win for me because it's all gains with no losses. I can still access my entire PS4 library and in some cases have an even better experience with them. I was always a fan of the new UI as well.

I fully agree, I've had the PS5 for 1,5 years as well and it's a blast. Not only native PS5 titles, but also PS4 titles that had an upgrade path with more fps, graphical improvement, etc. I actually notice the 60FPS.
The first time I loaded up Warzone on my PS5, that game changed by 1000% for me. Being able to have 60FPS in Warzone, as opposed to 30 on the PS4, just WOW. And I know that Warzone isn't the best example, but that was the first game I booted up to play with some friends.

But what about the lack of First-Party Japanese games? I miss niche games like Gravity Rush 2, Freedom Wars, Everybody’s Golf, etc. Every prominent Japanese game is leaving Sony for Nintendo. Ni No Kuni, 13 Sentinels, Deadly Premonition 2, and more, these games started on PlayStation but are now being moved to Nintendo systems. It feels like I made a mistake choosing PlayStation as my primary console of choice because I don’t enjoy the “new” Sony’s output like The Last of Us Part II, Returnal, Horizon Forbidden West, etc.

Finally a voice of reason in the comments section.
Idk what Ryan is smoking but PS5 is weak, and without Japan Studio, Sony is like a car without wheels.
More "cinematic" third person games? 🥱 Yawn. No thanks.

I got my PS4 in December of 2020 and ended up getting a PS5 December 2021 and just the load times and more consistent 60 fps is such difference. I only use my PS4 to play games that don't support cross Gen play until my homie upgrades to PS5.

Coming from someone that owned a PS4 at launch I loved how good the graphics were in the new games as well as the new controller but after awhile I hated it.
I got bored of the games pretty quickly and I'm sure my dad this as well since he always wanted to use the PS3 meaning I had to use the PS4.
Though fast forward to September 2021 which is when I bought the ps5 the only time I went back to play my PS4 is to jailbreak it and after playing through bully and finishing it I've yet to use my PS4.
The fact that I can play all the games I played on PS4 on ps5 is amazing so I'm quite happy with it

Jump from ps4 to os5 is a little bit uderwelming imo, graphics at this point are very similar and it's exciting. But I do think overall the ps5 is like a better model of ps4, almost everything improved so if you don't own a pc or if you had your ps3 since the beginning it's definitely worth the update.

It’s becoming more about the controller experience and carrying on with fantastic exclusives; but with 4x the res and graphics upgrades. System is so cool

People are also starting to wake up to the horrendous business practices the major publishers have been using in the industry and finally getting sick of games being released broken and lacking content. I think we're entering a gaming renaissance where Indi games will thrive and bigger publishers will be forced to start putting more effort into their games. because people aren't having it anymore. Three of the biggest gaming franchises of all time: Halo, Cod and Battlefield, all failed and are being called out for their bs. Here's to an awesome generation 🤞

I like that it's dead silent all the time, which is a good thing. Astros Playroom and Assassin's Creed Valhalla were the first PS5 games I ever played
I have been playing Control Ultimate Edition recently, and it's an excellent game. It truly is best on PlayStation 5 over original PlayStation 4 version. I am excited for the native PS5 version of Resident Evil 2 Remake soon

recently went on my ps3 its easily still the best UI by a mile. would like themes and folders back on the ps5. The ps5 needs its Bloodborne moment that fresh game that everyone wanted to try and I dont see any game like that at the moment for the ps5.

I got the ps5 in October.. And I'd say the honeymoon period just started to fade this week for me.. I've been playing sooo much on it.. Before the ps5 the last game I finished was rdr2 on its release.. Since I got it I've finished miles morales, spiderman, ghost of tsushima, Ac valhalla, God of war 2018, I'm 30 hours into persona 5, 10 into cyberpunk.. I think that's it but I feel like there's more..
