- Michelle Nicolini scored the biggest win of her mixed martial arts career at ONE: MASTERS OF DESTINY, getting one over on teammate-turned-rival Angela Lee. In the first round, the eight-time BJJ World Champion wasted no time bringing Lee into her world, asserting her dominance on the ground. It was much of the same from the Brazilian in the second stanza, as she dragged the Singaporean sensation to the canvas and controlled most of the action the mat. Though the Singaporean sensation staged a late comeback in the third frame, Nicolini's steady dose of ground and pound proved to be the difference as she claimed a massive unanimous decision victory against the ONE Atomweight World Champion.

The judging in this Championship event is so corrupt, it's risible.
What a shame the judges are blind. Lee clearly won this hands down.

Michelle is A god fighter and she gots more points by her hand impact on Angela face clearly .That's the points of Michelle that's why she won and she deserved it. .While Angela is on top Then Michelle recovery so fast to be the top .And I think Angela Didn't got point to her face once .
Watched this 3 times to understand the unanimous decision result....yes it was a close fight , both girls were solid on the floor ... but there is no way in hell that was a unanimous decision. Angela had done enough over the entire 3 rounds to have her hand raised. I’m sure there were many questions asked immediately after the fight .

Nicolini DID NOT win. More like corrupt judges lining their pockets! In fact she never threw a decent punch throughout the match.

The only intelligent comment made. I guess none of these commenters watch or know enough about mma to see that Angela was the one being controlled the entire fight, with the exception of the third round. Angela had a decent third round, but didn't do enough to get the win.

The judges in the UFC are appointed by each state’s athletic commission which are not hired by the ufc. Including referees
was a close fight i can see it both ways but in my opion angela lee did more damage and deserved the win :(

The Stand up striking didn't workout for Angela Lee. But she managed to make her way out of the ground and pound of Michelle. Michelle also didn't dominate all the ground control because Angela sometimes have a good scramble and make herself go on top of Michelle. Angela Lee also have a good strikes especially in round 3. But if the bout is only grappling, Michelle got the win by a Unanimous decision.
Overall, as for me I will judge this bout as draw.
Agreed. This fight should rightly be judged as a draw, except that Chatri Sityodong won't allow draws in One Championship. Every judge needs to pick a winner, and there are always 3 judges in every One Championship fight, hence no draws allowed.

Yes, you have a point. I'm surprised on angela's sweeps. Tho even she's on top position, nicolini can neutralize her. She cant ground and pound nicolini and that's authentic bjj. But angela is a high level on the ground no doubt.
@@bajomers2961 If I was a judge for that fight, and since old stuffy billionaire Chatri Sityodong insists on no draws for his One Championship fights, yes I would indeed give the victory to Angela rather than Michelle. The judges gave it to Michelle because (for all 3 rounds combined) the duration Michelle was on top of Angela > the duration Angela was on top of Michelle, plus all takedowns were by Michelle not by Angela. But I agree that Angela deserves greater credit than Michelle overall because Angela eventually successfully reversed to the top position each time, and had more successful strikes than Michelle.

The only time michelle ever did anything was on the 2nd round. The 1st round angela should have more points, and 3rd round angela defended everything michelle was throwing at her while also being able to reverse and did alot more in 10 secs then michele did in 3mins. Such a shame.

I thought Lee won. If it didn’t end with the rear naked choke attempt, I’d have called it a draw. Up until the end neither fighter had a clear cut advantage.
You're kidding right? 90% of the fight was grappling. The only close round was the 3rd. Nicolini clearly won the first 2 rounds. How many times did Angela have a dominant position? None! You could make the argument that she had her back at the end, but I'm not sure if she had both hooks in. Other than that she didn't pass the guard once and didn't have a single dominant position (mount, back, side control, NS). While Nicolini passed her guard and had her mounted in every single round. I'm pretty sure Nicolini had at least 5 minutes of dominant positions in the whole fight. I don't understand these comments, because it looks to me like the Angela Lee fan club. That being said I'm also a fan of Angela and I think she improved her grappling and she is the future of the division, but not yet.

Lee fought hard, but Nicolini clearly dominated every stage and was forcing all the attacks. All Lee could do was defend. Clear victory for Nicolini.

Of course she deserves to lose this fight, you obviously don't know martial arts and it's scoring, Angela Lee spent most of her time defending offensive attacks on the ground and sweps but never utilised her stand up attacks, most of the fight was on the ground and their is only one outcome when you are facing a 3rd degree black belt hall of famer Jujitsu great.
Nicolini was more active, both on top and bottom. I think that is what made the difference.

Angela overall just reversed so many positions plus a few ground and pound was a good touch. Lee should have won either way. At least 2 out of 3 rounds Lee won.

This is a MMA fight at an absolute top World class in its class. To me a draw decission would have been OK. Lee was technically superior, but she had to defend herself during the match. Nicolini was attacking. I Think that Nicolini won due to her general better muscular strength throughout. Michelle is simply stronger than Angela.
On the contrary, Angela is stronger and her explosiveness let her escape a few positions. Nicolini is far more technical on the ground - of course she's a jujitsu champion - and had Angela in trouble every time.

Lee was only dominating on the round 3, it wasn't enough. I wouldn't say its so clear. However, Lee had to defend all the way for rounds 1 & 2, she survived them.

Each round is judged on ring dominance takedowns and striking. Round 1 lee won ring dominance and striking but was taken down round 2 she lost ring dominance but won striking round 3 she knocked and pushed nicolini down had dominance in striking . She won that fight 2 rounds to 1 and at the end of the 3rd round began to dominate with hammer fists and submission attempts . Lee won that fight

Guys, the bout is judged not round-by-round but it is judged in it's overall performance meaning if this was judged round-by-round then Angela should have won but since it is judged by it's overall performance then Michelle truly is the winner

Judging by the rules of grappling, actually Michelle dictate the match. The judges give the right unanimous decision.
Many times the judges got it wrong... in this case, they didn't.
I'm a huge Angela's fan, but fair is fair.

90% of the fight was grappling and except the last 10 seconds Angela didn't have a single dominant position on Nicolini, while Nicolini passed her guard and had her mounted in every round. The first 2 rounds were clearly Michelle, but you could give Lee the last round. I don't even know if they score it round by round or Pride style. On Pride rules I could see an argument for Lee winning, because she finished strong, but I think Michelle clearly won the fight.

Reading all the comments made me cringe. No doubt Nicolini won this match. Angela just looked more aggressive but in reality Nicolini was the one controlling the pace of the game the whole time.
From the look of it Angela won the fight. She was on top at the very last round. And yet due to the points accumulated, she lost. This is not a good reflection of the fight. I think a fighter who dominated the last round should be the one declare winner. That should be the way. Just because you accumulated more points but you lost in the last round...you still win. But that is the rule...just not too fair to a fighter who dominated in the last round and still declare a loser. To me Angela Lee already won it. If given more time she might have got a rear naked choke and win....just need a bit more time...But to the judges the Brazilian girl won.
