For me the episode where Duncan shows his class and human spirit. What a legend

The mind boggles how Theo could be so arrogant, rude and unpleasant to someone who has carried themselves with such dignity and composure.

@@dtz1000 That's it. Theo - like every dragon - constantly calculates what's in it for him. Once it was clear she'd go for Duncan, he tried to compensate the loss of face by trying to pull some kind of power move. Which was more of a dick move instead.

He only is nice when the proposed business is booming, and from a business-mind perspective its understandable. The business world is arrogant itself, you won't survive by not being the same. But in this case she accomplished everything on her own, yeah I think Theo was over the top here and Duncan did the right thing calling it out.
The true face of a human being comes out when they feel insulted. Theo hissed back. Laiya kept her composure.
It was an absolutely insane transfer of energy there. A joy to watch

@@Combat18. nah if you're going to someone for an investment you should at minimum make sure you know who might be investing in you. She just assumed they were fine because they were dragons, but it doesn't mean that he knows anything about making a falconry business successful.

These guys are investors, not necessarily huge public figures everybody knows unless they watch Dragon's Den I'd be more surprised if the Pitch makers knew what these guys were known for in the business world.
Duncan is one of the best examples of "Chaotic Good" personalities I know of. He can be harsh and cold at times, but his compass keeps him on the right path

I don't think Theo was bad at all. He gave her an offer when everyone was going out.
He just came into conflict with Duncan who was knocking his offer and then she did make one really bad mistake by asking them what they do. She should know about them beforehand. I was really surprised she asked that.

Did she though? It's easy to find information about how Hawksdrift is still in business and doing well, but I couldn't find any information about whether or not the deal with Duncan actually happened after the show. Did you find a reliable source?
Duncan in reality is a EXCELLENT guy...the money he donates and work he does for charities is stunning

Duncan's a no-nonsense guy. Some people he takes a dislike to, some business ideas he doesn't like, and if the entrepreneur's being evasive or the numbers don't add up, he wastes no time in going out. But the flip side of thtat is he has a lot of time for honest, hardworking people with decent ideas, especially young people, and will come to their defence if he feels other dragons are bullying them or trrying to hustle them into unfair deals.
He was even relatively patient with Derek of flow signals fame, who seemed like a decent and well-meaning, if hopeless, person. For a while anyway.
She should have said at the end of her pitch "and as a warning, Monty has been trained to attack anyone that says I'm out"

Theo, despite his size, really thinks he is cock of true walk! Yes, she probably should have done a little research but asking someone to demonstrate why they’re valuable to the business is completely legit. She was indeed naive to include the fixed asset of land within the deal but perhaps suggested that because of the limited projections, and therefore, needed something to induce an offer. Either way, 50,000 as a silent partner was a steal, even if it does take a few years to recoup - specific businesses like this will always earn, just perhaps not as much as a regular business. I’m pretty sure there is a Dragons Den video called “flawless pitch” or something similar; I think this girl is more deserving.

I have a large business I made from nothing. I knew as soon as she said she owned the land, even with what her numbers were, what she asked for was absolutely reasonable. Duncan seemed to be the only one who figured it out.
25k for 20% of that young ladies business for him and the same deal for another dragon, would mean he and another dragon would basically get that much back instantly in her asset value, essentially just buying a 1 for 1 stake in a property... thier money is safe and they make more money on land equity growth even if the business does nothing... and then him and another greedy dragon would be getting HALF of her businesses profits for free.

Theo was entitled to ask for more than the going rate. The dragons almost always do unless there's a bidding war (on the basis that most entrepreneurs will underpitch in the first case, and then there'll be haggling), and he was obviously conflicted about whether it was a good investment. Deborah and Peter were out, so he was probably expecting a dragon's market, with James or Duncan to match his offer. He wasn't expecting Duncan to just swoop in and blow him out of the water.
He could have responded better to the question about his background, although she could have framed that question better too to be fair.

For the very, very simple reason that aside from that, she has to be one of the best prepared presenters in the show! Her answers were clear and detailed and well thought-out, she wasn‘t winging it, it looks like she had anticipated literally all questions!

I remember meeting this girl near Rhayader at a falconry country show. She was with a guy who seemed to me an unsavoury character. Following year I met her & her new partner, a nice, genuine guy. Enough said! I hope she's doing well & happy with her life!
