- Paralives gameplay update! This is an update on the Paralives gameplay development in 2023. Paralives is an upcoming life simulation game developed for PC and is currently being made. Life stages and other Paralives gameplay features have been revealed!

When I heard over 200 people at EA worked on Parenthood alone, I'm even more impressed with the Paralives team. Look what they are doing without billions of dollars, and hundreds of team mates!! I am so excited for the game, I'll wait years.
Whaat that's crazy! What the hell were 200 people doing there? Like 199 people creating grass, with one person creating gameplay❓️⁉️ With 200 people you'd think a more complex expansion would have been created 😭
If EA needs 200 interns to develop a feature, that says as little about the effort as if a government agency needs 200 officials to stamp a document.
And that pack is lackluster
Seriously??? And it doesn't have a lot of gameplay even though I like the pack. I honestly hope Paralives is very successful in order to make TS5 and TS4 invest more in the live mode department.
@@rosemangofairy I think honestly that sometimes a big team can be more of a hindrance than an improvement. The whole process of streamlining concepts, design and programming and implementation into a final product must be so tedious. The amount of meetings that have to be held… I’m not a game developer but I can see how a small team may get things done more efficiently sometimes.
Idea: Instead of horses we get fleshed out birds and/or rabbits and other small but common pets.
I love the idea of horses, but if given the choice between having a horse and having a pet ferrot that is an actual pet and not just an enclosure object with a bunch of interactions like "feed" (cough my first pet rodents cough cough), I am totally having the fur noodle. If cars exist to get you from place to place, horses will just be a niche horse girl/period gameplay, so it's probably better off as 'countryside' theme dlc

unless they add like 2 worlds with 1 world be a lot to live on thats atleast the size of 4 64x64 lots as a home lot
then a 2nd world thats even bigger that has all the stuff that you would want with horses like race track or what not i really dont know all the horse stuff
so yes better small pets might be better but how they do them i find all the pets just annoying
shouldnt have to wash a dog 5x a day or take to vet every other day
then the rodents they just to limited hell i know pet rat i use to have i would go for walks with or take for rides in car just leave at home if had go to a store or out to eat
but i got to point i dont even use any of the pets anymore

I think the problem with the babies is that they essentially have the face proportions of an adult when babies in real life have large eyes and foreheads that take up more of their face. Thats why i think thta they look so uncanny

Babies do not have large eyes and foreheads; they have small faces/heads that make those facial features appear large. In fact, eyes are one of the few features that remain the same size.
I think the problem is that they’re so tall. If they were smaller, I don’t think it would look uncanny really.
@@hummingbir6 Actually, babies and toddlers just have bigger heads in proportion to their bodies. Their heads start looking smaller as their bodies grow. Learned about it in childcare.
I agree the babies look a lil off lol maybe because their faces aren’t very innocent looking . They look mature in the face . Either way I’m so excited to play

I love the idea of gradual aging so much 😭 My family gameplay would be incredible with this. It’s so frustrating to have sims that are siblings with a few “years” between them look the exact same height and age until one of them ages up and looks dramatically older than the other. Great job to the paralives team, you can already see how much effort is going into this game and it’s turning out amazing!
Right. That's why I really like the preteen mod. Can't remember the name of the creator at the moment but it is a nice addition to the game. Unfortunately it had conflict issues with the high school pack though.
I really don’t think gradual aging is likely or even necessary- I think it would end up causing more problems than it’s worth. But what I am ecstatic about is the height sliders. They’re practically guaranteed, and you can get that same “older sibling” effect with, like, 2 seconds of manual adjustment. Plus, as a character creator, I just want to be able to tell my 5 year olds from my 10 year olds, which is not something you can do in the Sims.
The Baby is so shiny lol But I have to say by now I'm on Team Paralives. The more I see of Life By You the less I recognize a vision or soul. I hope that one of the two can meet my expectations (and they are in the gameplay, I want a game, not a virtual dollhouse).
@@SimlikeitHot I didn't say anything else. I'm no Sims fanboy, but an individual person. But tbh Sims 2 Open For Business for example had real and quite good gameplay.
I know many people say they don't want a virtual dollhouse, but it's actually the most appealing thing I find in life simulation games like the sims. Can you elaborate on what you mean by "I don't want a dollhouse"? After all, any game where you have godlike, puppeteer control over characters is in its core very much like doll-play. What do you want, if not that? There are games like disaster simulation, where the gameplay is more godlike than puppeteer-like, is that what you mean?
@@fruity4820 dollhouse lets you control every single thing in the world but requires your total control over everything in order to make any sense, look at how Sims 4 works. U get to control everything and you have complete control over every aspect... But in older Sims games this control is only seemingly there as Sims themselves and the 'simulation' (which Sims 4 is severely lacking) takes that control away from you to make you adapt to new gameplay challenges and in turn leads to unexpected and interesting results.
This is why I prefer older Sims games... They are games, they aren't set pieces in front of which i pose my dolls.

@@mihailoveselinovic7151 i mean, these games need a balance of both. it can't be too far in one direction or the other. yes, there needs to be some unpredictability and simulation you don't need to controlin order to keep gameplay fresh and engaging, but too much and it's not really what anyone wants, either. people play these games to set up situations and lives for roleplay, for living vicariously, etc. we don't want the illusion of control, we do want _actual_ control. if too much happens that is out of your control, it may as well be any other video game with a storyline and a specific playstyle you're locked into, and while i enjoy those too, that's not what i play life sims for. it needs to give you he ability to control absolutely everything yourself, dollhouse style, but _also_ give you the option to let things go and see how it ends up without your control.
Proportion is off in the infant and toddler. This is also why many people who can draw adults have trouble drawing babies. The babies end up looking like tiny old people.
Paralives illustrators would benefit from anatomical analyses (a ton of which is available for artists for free online). For instance, studying depth of a face in profile and the difference in developmental proportions between an adult, a child, toddlers, babies and infants. It’s a matter of very small proportional differences.
This is going to be a sticking point for me, as an artist. I like the style, however I don’t want to buy art that is supposed to be proportionally somewhat realistic yet, the artist hasn’t taken time to analyze and improve their skills. It’s going to bother me every time I look at the characters, unless they have as much/more customization in comparison with sims. I don’t want to play with unintentional uncanny valley. Intentional uncanny valley is fine - but, there’s no point to it in this game. It’s not a horror or surrealistic game.

I'm so glad you said that about gradual aging. Can it be done? Probably, but seeing as even the most "powerful" sim life game hasn't done it, it's likely very complex to do, and I wish people would stop putting these extremely complex (and, frankly, unnecessary) wants on these games. Then being so disappointed when none of the games can deliver it.

Theres other games that have it and have done it with small teams. One I personally played is "The Isle" a dinosaur simulator. It can absolutely be done and EA just doesn't care to innovate anything apart from their monetization
@@genovah5062 Okay, let me rephrase what I mean. While I have faith Paralives and LBY will be amazing games, I do wish people would stop pushing certain things as if they matter as much as good gameplay. The Sims never had gradual aging and it became a hit without it, so what I’m saying is, while it probably can be done, I’d rather these teams work on good, full games than getting caught up on something like gradual aging or trying to make every building not a rabbit hole or whatever. People are wanting so many things in these games and they will end up disappointed because some of it won’t make it whether it’s doable or not. However, thank you for mentioning that game; I’ll look into it.

Yeah, i don't understand the desire to have a separate infants life stage to babies. That only happened in sims 4 because sims 4 babies sucked, and tbh the infants should have just replaced the babies.

For me the babies look like miniature elders. Otherwise my big problem is too much pink, all the characters are too pink. I'm more excited by Life by You mainly because they have shown off gameplay - not a ton but what I've seen shows me that they are actively working on the most important part of the game. The art can always be improved and updated but core game mechanics are much harder to incorporate.
Im sure a lot of people feel the same way as you. I definitely see Paralives being for Maxis Match/Cozy players and Life by You for Alpha simmers. Just because of the level of fantasy/realism and the art styles.
what gameplay in LBY? you mean sims 3 game play at least in the needs? that's not gameplay to me, so both games actually didn't show much of a "gameplay" let's call it now, only the most basic stuff like needs, walking, running etc

I"ve never commented on a Sim video before, but I have to tell you how much I loved that you called out the horsegirls!! LMAO, your description was SPOT ON!!
I've also (so far) loved the Paralives art style, but had the same reaction about toddlers. They are not cute, just odd looking. And the baby in the crib reminded me of Hank Hill in King of the hill.
Finally someone mentioned that no gameplay hasn't been shown! I think they've should focus at it in the first place instead of fancy interior design.

I don't particularly like the looks of the Paras but the reference image of the toddler is not bad at all, I feel like if they'd come close to that look it wouldn't be so bad.
Same the toddlers look like cabbage patch dolls...I like the art of everything else though

The art style looks amazing! I just wish they wouldn't have that big blush in the middle of their faces. Maybe just tone that down a little bit. And also, that baby needs a bigger head. The middle is bigger than the head. Like cats. So..nope. But they looook so good. Like it's drawn. Not fake. There's...soul in it? I don't know how to describe it. I can only wish the gameplay will be good and I am sold.
They have confirmed that the blush could be removed or added.
Obs: I really like the art style as well! The prettiest in life simulation games so far to me.
I understand why they are ‘tight lipped’ about their progress. Even if it still takes months-years to release, I don’t mind waiting as long as it’s polished, packed full and taken time over perfecting. Lets not rush or pressure them or we’ll end up with another sims 4 base game..

It's because babies and toddlers are supposed to have bigger heads and cuter faces so rn they look like small adults lol. I did work experience at a nursery and oh my god babies and toddlers are the cutest most innocent looking things ever. I hope they allow them to have relationships too. Like how baby sims should cry when with sims that they don't recognise and be emotionally attached to a single adult sim (they should cry whenever they are apart from that sim for too long until they get distracted with toys or form a secondary attachment but when their primary adult returns they'd cry for or crawl to them.). And toddler sims should be pretty distant towards sims that they don't know well enough or didn't know as babies but eventually end up approaching and smiling around the other sim when they befriend them. And this can happen at the acquaintance stage if the toddler has a super friendly personality.
What kind of gameplay would you like to see for elders in simulation games? I was hoping that the growing together pack for Sims 4 would have more to it for each life stage, but was disappointed. It looks like Paralives may have more thought put into each life stage looks. I hope that implies there will be more game play also specifically for each life stage.
Yes, I agreed, Satch, i like their art style too. I don't mind Para child, baby and toddler but am sure they'll improve their look before release. I don't mind horses but am not sure whether they should be in the game, we'll see how they play out in the next video. I have feeling they're getting closer to release their game or early access.
unfortunately they're going for a specific look for paras that makes them stand out so they are easy to find during gameplay...so they're not changing that...

I'm so looking forward to all these new simulation games coming out and EA being left in the dust a bit. Maybe then they'll actually start putting effort into the game again and actually put out more content in their packs/kits. I've been watching your Sims 3 playthroughs and I'm honestly blown away by how much content they put into the game! So they are capable of doing it, they've just let the money go to their heads.
correct me if i'm wrong but i believe they were the only major ones in the life simulation market, so i think it's partially ea and partially 'they can charge pretty much whatever they want because there's no one else in the market'. it's really nice to see some competition coming

I love horses in the Sims games
Welp I am a black woman with no braces, black hair and I love horses. Got to go horse back riding a couple of time and it was a dream come true. Horses are a love of mine but I don't obsess over them. I don't have a bunch of motifs and memorabilia around but I do hold them in my heart.
Oh also I don't like Taylor Swift so.....
That’s so cool! My grandpa raises and trains horses and it was always such a joy when someone who loved horses but maybe hadn’t had the chance to ride them got to go on a ride with us. Horses are angels 😇

In terms of the babies and toddlers I think their eyes are the problem. If they decrease the nose size and increase the eyes and make them cuter that way it could work. Also the wrinkling and detailing on a child should generally be avoided because even though it’s realistic it doesn’t read well in art at all. Just a basic rule of thumb I’ve learnt as and artist 😛

The babies' and toddlers' eyes look lifeless like dolls. They need to have some sparkle/twinkle and shine when happy. Also their skin is too pink. They look like newborns. The bodies are pretty good though.
Since my standards for babies and todlers were set by the sims 3, everything looks beautiful to me 😂
I only hope that the game will have a lot of gameplay and not just looks like the sims 4. That's the reason i got bored with ts4 after 2 hours of creating one sim, but still play the sims 3 daily. Gameplay is the most important in the end

First I want to say I love watching your videos and thank you for sharing! To me Paralives characters look like paper dolls because of the outer line of them, and Life by You characters are too shadowed. They should outline characters like the build mode items that make them look real.
I think the babies were adorable, way cuter than infants! My only concern with Paralives is the quality of the animation, which is something TS4 just really excells at tbh.
I know I recently made a comment about Cream Latte Dream and I know that Satch might be the only one reading this in a very understandably lurker sort of way...
...but I really feel that Paralives coincidentally looks like they took inspiration from Cream Latte Dream's sims, what, with the e-boy/girl blush and the strange body blush that makes paras and sims alike look drunk and like they have a skin condition at the same time. ;w;

The babies/infants thing in SIMs 4 was yeah, a fix to a broken design. If anything the proper categories would be ‘newborns’ and infants, but if you do it right you don’t need both. A baby is a general term anyway. A real infant and baby are not different and a newborn is just the first bit after being born.

Okay but i'd be elated if they swapped horses with snakes. Snakes are cute and very good pets! And there's lots you could do with themm!
the problem with the baby/toddler is more noticable somewhat like with the adults.... the shading ubder the eyes shows no highlights and is often dark with the drawn on blush.... the last project I was working on had some artists who wanted something similar to this style....it just made the faces look dirty.
I think the paralives babys rn look too "adulty". You could put the same babyhead on the adult and it would kind of work, whereas a real babies heads would immediately look not fitting for an adult.
I'm critical of how interactive animations are to be done. Both Life by You and Paralives are boasting fairly expansive character customization for body types. However, this is gonna cause some massive jank if not dealt with and a lot of work if its attempted to be dealt with. Kissing for example, is a basic one that can be dependent on overall height, limb length, head size, facial feature size, etc. This is just one action and atleast the sims has set a precedent of multiple types of kisses for multiple scenarios. People throw around the word "procedural animation", but frankly there are relatively few examples of this in action in the way these games would need. I'm not saying they can't do it, but I'll believe it when I see it.
The paras still look better than the sims 3 sims, so I'll take it. As long as the gameplay is good, with little to no bugs and glitches, im here for it
I love most animals except those that could harm me, stick me or poke me and or kill me. I was raised in the northeast of the US. But I was born in Puerto Rico. Been living in PR SINCE 2013. Anyway I see horses all the time. I love them. But like I said I love most animals. As a 39yr old female who loves all cute things and loves the sims lol I probably will be a sucker and get this pack.

Is it "live" mode or is it "live" mode? ie. is this how the paras/sims "live" or is the action being simulated "live"?
most people say it like "live, love, laugh" I say it like "we're going live in five" I think only maybe 10% say it my way, and I don't know if it's ever been officially said by the devs which it is.

I think the Sims team would have been smarter to work on and release a Fairies expansion pack instead of horses. As long as we don't have an open world, or a special open-neighbourhood world for the horses it's not really going to work, in my opinion.

Well, only plus I can see, is that the people are far less cartoony... meaning they aren't as nearly outlined (like comic book based games e.g. X-Men, Batman, etc.) & are starting to look more like Sims, well sort of... kind of a weird 2-d Sims 1 mix with TS2 3-d look. The coloring is still very "comic bookish" and IDK if I will ever play it. Life by You seems so much better, superior, and even (ALMOST) on the Sims level. Still a TS2-3-and at time 4, STAN. Nothing beats the O.G. with some new knockoff. Besides City Skylines being the exception to TSC... with the exception of SC-4 which is EV=ER=Y=THING! No matter if it is quote, unquote, "dated" in the way of graphical limits.

I may be an odd one out but I like the world look but as far as the paras I absolutely hate the new 2d paper doll look. It's jarring against the very different background. They talked about being pro modding & cc but is this new style with the drawing style going to affect cc creators abilities?

the sims wouldn’t be what it is without black and brown creators. no taylor swift. no blonde hair. even the newer clothing designs and hairstyles were jacked from black cc creators and black simmers on youtube
I'm more likely to play this than Life by you, but I wish it wasn't victim to the fad of having a red band across every face. CC creators started it, and it just looks weird. People's faces aren't shaded like that.
I feel the same way about the redness. I hope there will be skin tone variations without it, or the redness is just a skin detail/overlay. I know some ppl see it as cute, but it looks like they have sunburn. 😬
What I love about paralives is how it doesn't have huge qUiRkY expressions but rather feel more human the sims 4 every sim was acting like some hype youtuber💀
