Personally I like the outline and art style. That being said, I still think the line work for features such as shoulder blades, collar bones, shoulder definition, and knee caps could be softened or the color adjusted to tone down those features. They look a bit harsh in my opinion. I think the "Kids" Shown might be some sort of preteen based on Eli's character model but they do need their features adjusted to look more youthful still. My favorite part was actually the expressions on Maggie and Sebastian. I think they nailed those expressions!

I am definitely modding the skin patterns to better suit my taste. If I recall correctly, the devs are giving us in-game options to change the three colour layers of the base skin, but I haven't seen anything about the outlines. Luckily, the game will be mod-friendly.

I think because they are cartoons we expect them have cartoony proportions, I mean bigger head, big eyes, narrow shoulder. They were shaped closer to irl kids proportion. But considering its a game I think slightly cartoony proportions can make they look cute.

Yeah I also think some of the lines could be smoother especially on the skin and I’d like less lines on the clothes they make them look wrinkly. I mean that’s ok if it’s supposed to be a wrinkly shirt but if it’s like a dress shirt it wouldn’t really suit to make it so wrinkly

I'm beginning to think it's a scam. No gameplay after all these years hmm...and they're clearly playing around with all the Patreon money they're getting. I dunno, once I start seeing some gameplay videos then maybe I'll believe it's a real game coming out.

    • @lilyofthevalley3059

It could be, but it also could be real. Sims 4 took 4 years to develop and according to Google (Wikipedia article on game development to be exact) "Most modern PC or console games take from three to five years to complete. , where as a mobile game can be developed in a few months. The length of development is influenced by a number of factors, such as genre, scale, development platform and number of assets." The record for the longest video game development time stands at 14 years and 43 days so it's not like Paralives is taking an unreasonable amount of time to develop with their small team. Indie games take longer to make than games made by big companies.
Sims 4 had an already established company with lots of money, a bunch of resources (good computers, assets they could use, the software they could use to make the game, etc.), people to work on the game and market it (while paying salaries for each of them). They also had other games and shareholders bringing in lots of money. Paralives on the other hand currently has 10 people working on the game now (based on the picture shown on the video, it could be eleven since someone may be taking the picture) and began with 1 person (not a company) thus having way less money and resources (since I doubt that 1 person was a millionaire that had a ready-made game engine or had experience building one, a bunch of licenses to different programs they need, etc.). The Paralives team also only gets money via Patreon, with no other games or shareholders to make them more money. Not sure how much money they get definitely more than they did in the beginning. Before they got enough money to pay people salaries they could live on, the team probably had to work day jobs while developing the game making the development slower than Sims 4.
It's also not unusual for gameplay to take a long time to develop since they have to make a bunch of things for the game first (character models, things for them to interact with, some graphics, code to make the paras actually do something). A lot depends on if they are building their own or using an already existing one like the unreal engine. It also depends on when they hired the person/people working on the actual gameplay and on how skilled the whole team is/ how much previous experience they have working on life simulation games.
Out of curiosity what makes you think they are playing around with the Patreon money they are getting? Have there been mentions of them wasting money on things not related to the game? If you are talking about the picture in the video, there is no mention (or at least I didn't notice any) of them having used Patreon money to go on the outing. It could be one of those team-building outings workplaces sometimes host that you have to pay for yourself to partake in (or like field trips at school you're parents had to pay for). The point is each person probably used their own money to be there.
Sorry for the wall of text. You can probably tell I'm a little hyper from a lack of sleep and a bit bored.

This game will never be released. They’re working on all these features and gameplay ideas but can’t get the basic foundation of the game developed. Horse before the cart. Yet another reason this game is taking eons to develop. The disjointed art styles are only adding to the extremely slow development timeline. This game is never going anywhere at this rate. And I suspect none of the “gameplay” show is real. You’re looking at animations, which is the equivalent of looking at a Figma design instead of a real, functional website. They’re showing you nothing.

I honestly love the outline look on the characters, I just think their features should be a little more subdued. Like unless your para is specifically meant to have a boney structure or something, I think stuff like shoulder blades shouldn’t be quite so jarringly visible. As everybody’s already said, kids’ features could stand to be a bit softer and more youthful in their look, but generally, they look pretty nice. I can’t wait for this game! It doesn’t feel soulless or like it’s begging for cash from its consumers, and that’s a vibe we’ve been missing for FAR too long. The Sims 2 was originally supposed to come with the rain in the bass game and power outages where you would have to perform certain Macs to get the power to turn back on. They scrapped it because it kept raining inside of the houses and I’m sad they never brought back the power outage scenario.

In drawing and painting, you don't draw the entire drawing with the same level of shading texture and vividness in colours but you will intentionally stress the parts that you want the viewer's eye to wander to. I think this works perfect for Paralives honestly because we want the characters to stand out from the background just a tiny bit.

I love Paralives` art direction and style. It`s,in my opinion way better than Life by You in that regard as of NOW. The characters` models remind me of Tell Tale games(like Wolf Among Us) and the harsh lines, for me,just add to that experience. I love the 3D modelling of the furniture(such as the sofas and curtains) and every lot they`ve shown us in those terms looks amazing. The art direction is this game`s STRONGEST point right now. I do hope we get more worlds(a metropolitan area,a Japan inspired(maybe DLC?) world etc).
I hope Life By You reigns it in in regards as to HOW MUCH they`re trying to implement and first focus on the basics. Right now I`m most excited for Paralives because of how much creative identity it has right now.

Okay, was going to say a few things that would likely have put in the "unfavorable" category, but please do consider a few things.
-- I am 43, and having been playing video games since the very early 80's. I think I started playing maybe a year after learned to use the toilet on my own
-- Having worked in the Computer Engineering Industry since my teens, in the 90's, I have extensive experience, since my father is a software engineer, and made me learn as much as I could.
So, on to my review of the game, base on the plethora of videos that they have, and others peoples
-- Game play does look good, in the sense of the realism, like taxes, likely the jobs system will hopefully be fleshed out as well. Including things like Energy Production is also nice.
-- At this time, I feel that the characters look a bit bland. I hope in time, they clean up the characters looks, because right now they look like a cheap manga drawing.
-- While I respect that they are doing a lot with a small budget, that is also their choice to do it that way.
-- On a positive note, the game looks a lot better than Life by You or anything Maxis-EA related. To be blunt, I am tired of Maxis-EA because of their absurd marketing strategy of charging over 1,000$ for all the content on a game, that unless this year, you had to pay for. I bought it when it was 29.99$ (it was on sale from 39.99$ at the time) So now finding that the game is free, but the content prices have been locked to what they are (40$ per Expansion, 20$ per Game Pack, 10$ per Stuff Pack and then 5$ per Kit) Gonna give a breakdown:
**using US currency, cause of where I am at**
    14 Expansion Packs x 40$ = 560$
    12 Game Packs x 20$ = 240$
    18 Stuff Packs x 10$ = 180$
    23 Kits x 5$ = 115$
Adds up pretty fast. I have one Expansion, one game pack and stuff pack, because they had one sale, many years ago with a very affordable price tag for a bundle. Since then, they have never had it again.
I am also not saying Maxis-EA does not have a right to make money, but both them and Paradox (creators of Life by You) have a terrible behavior pattern of stripping out key functions from their games, and then slapping a DLC tag to it, to make more money. If anything, I hope that Paralives creators see's that the same way many people do, as distasteful when considering their game. The last thing we need is a skeleton game, where you have to spend 250$ or more on DLC and other content just to play a game. I also want to STRONGLY recommend, in case they see this long diatribe of mine, make it OFFLINE CAPABLE. NO LAUNCHER, NO INTERNET REQUIREMENT.
To me, requiring a launcher and/or reliable internet connection is bullshit. Its just petty bullshit from companies that want to micro manage what players do.
As a side comment, now that RUclips filled out the right hand suggested video panel, @SatchonSims, Almost anyone can see how EA killed the Sims Franchise. After Sims 3, the stupid amount of DLC and Content spewing, with equally damaging prices, and in some cases, some content wont work unless you buy a specific DLC Expansion as well. They killed their games primarily by not listening to their community as whole, instead only picking and choosing small clips of comments to shape the narrative in their favor

In the US we do get government benefits (based on income and household composition). Welfare has a negative connotation. We don’t get any benefits for children specifically but child allowance is what kids get from parents for spending money. If that’s what they meant, it sounds like different household members can keep their finances separate, which is very interesting! Or our child sims can have a piggy bank in their inventory or something.

I wonder if SNB mod people worked with them. It seems exactly like their bill system mod. They also have a welfare system, child support, bank accounts that you can put what you want each sim to put into their bank account and what goes into the household. Works great if you have more than one sim living in the household that are not related, works great for teens with jobs so they can save money. It goes with them when they move out. There is an allowance mod. I believe littlemsam took it over after Scarlet retired from modding. Paralives, I just don't like the flatness of the characters compare to the objects and surrounding of the game. It just bugs the hell of me.

A lot of things in this game looks great, but I have always been an alpha player, so the art style of the parafolk is a big turn-off for me. Maybe modders could help with that. • @cattiemaxie7160
    @cattiemaxie7160 Год назад +3

I personally feel like the art style is not cartoonish at all. If it was cartoonish like the sims 4, you wouldn't be able to imagine the people's faces in real life. Here, I can very easily picture the parafolk as real people, just with a more muted colour palette. On top of that, I think the vivid colours make each character have a memorable design, which reminds me of how distinct each sim looked like in the sims 2.
I do hope someone makes a mod for those who want the game to be less saturated in colour. But for the game base, I think they struck a perfect chord between realism and simplicity that makes the characters seem full of expression and alive, without veering into wacky sims 4 theory.
The perfect fusion of alpha cc and maxis match imo
