    Good vid.... Does the Blu Tech filter out rust like the Clearsource does?

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  10 месяцев назад

      I don't see them claiming to but Clearsource claims the sediment filter removes rust and its basically the same filter 5 micron that is used in the Blu Tech so it should. btw Clearsource now has a compact water filter system. I'm in the process of testing it. www.loveyourrv.com/clearsource-ultra-mini-water-filter-review/

    Reached out to Blu by Amazon question and direct to "customer service" about adapters for indoor plumbing. They never responded. I spent $400 with their competition.

      Try the website. They have a Chat function there goblutech.com/ Maybe that will work. They have sent out a warning to me that there have been Amazon sellers counterfeiting their products. Sounds like you may have come across one.

    Great Detail. The concern is received free. One has to admit, it would be a better review if you spent your own hard earned money. Especially when the system you’re cogently using is working great.

    Great info Ray. We have 7 campgrounds of our 12 in the USFS of Colorado that we haul 210 gallons of water to every 2-4 weeks depending on how miserly our camp hosts are. We technically call it water for cleaning and our hosts vary from seasoned to first-timers so their experience levels vary considerably. I always site to them to go view your videos to learn about how to better use water filtration and have learned a lot myself watching your videos while camp hosting. We start the season by paying a water service to haul 5,000 gallons up to 8 of the campgrounds by a licensed hauler and then I top them off as needed. One of the campgrounds has a deep well and solar system to provide water to the campground, 6 have hand-pumped wells, and one provided no water to the guests due to contamination of ground water just like another that was shut down 5 years ago. Water is a serious topic in the west and once we finally retire from working for our concessionaire employer we will put into place all you have taught us and all we have learned over the years as we snowbird also.

    Thanks again! I also have the Clear Source Ultra which I installed in the basement of my fifth wheel. It is very Tempting to switch to save space and weight. The one other minor negative to the Blu that I observed from watching your video is that one has to physically lift the Blu to remove the filter canisters. On the Clear source Ultra I can change the filters without lifting the frame. Again minor especially as light as the Blu is but is a big pain on the CSU. Still tempting but big $$$ to do so.

    My only concern is replacement filters. It appears the only source is Blu itself. Perhaps Canadian Tire will stock these eventually.

    Nice video Ray! Question: wouldn’t the blue tech cause significantly less flow when hooked up to city water? That’s our scenario almost all the time so I’d be reluctant to buy that one.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  Год назад

      I did a city water test, seemed to work pretty good ruclips.net/video/DHXYqNgKxbY/видео.html It does put out a little over 3 gallons per minute. Most RV water pumps are set at 3 GPM. So it would be comparable to the flow you see when you run off your onboard tank via the pump. However, parks with weak water pressure to start with or if the filters get too clogged could lead to lower pressure and flow in the RV.

    Would this new r3 system help with calcium? I’m in one permanently. And the water is high in calcium. So I can’t drink it yet

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  Год назад

      No. Minerals like calcium are dissolved in the water so you'd need a different filter system called Reverse Osmosis to remove it. I recently tested a counter top unit www.loveyourrv.com/simpure-countertop-ro-uv-water-filter-purifier-review/

    Hi Ray, Are the filters of either unit proprietary? Being able to pick up replacements at a chain hardware store would be a nice convenience.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  2 года назад +1

      The larger 10 inch size are readily available everywhere but the smaller 5 inch are much less common I've found in searching online. Also, the smaller micron 3rd stage filters seem hard to find at the average hardware store. Most places sell the sediment and carbon filters with less selection for the much smaller micron.

    I"m new to RV'ng but will be full time soon. Other than the flow rate for tank filling, Is the flow rate of the blu tech normal for one person's usage in an RV? Why might you need more than 3.3 gpm? Thanks.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  Год назад +1

      Around 3 GPM should be fine as that's the flow most RV water pumps produce and works well enough for showers and toilet flushing etc.

    This video was eye opening. I am very familiar with these nano filters and can not believe that Clearsource would allow there system to flow above 3 gpm. These filters are designed to max flow below 3 gpm (testing parameters)....above that it will BLOW OUT THE FILTER. Meaning that the filters are probably not filtering anything out when above 3 gpm.
    At that flow rate it forces the media to open up totally destroying its filtering capability....
    Should just use an inline Camco....wow!!

    • @batmanforever2168
      @batmanforever2168 2 года назад

      I got this information directly from the filter manufacturer if you were wondering my source

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  2 года назад +1

      I did a quick Google search and found several 10 inch by 2.5 inch nano filters with higher flow rates than 3 gpm. Here is an example of a .2 micron www.fountain-filters.co.uk/NanoCeram+0.2+Micron+Filter+2.5+x+10+/0_CAAA008/PRAA041.htm
      Suggested flow rate - 4gpm / 15 lpm
      Maximum flow rate - 10gpm / 38 lpm
      Clearsource Ultra system with the Virus guard .1 micron filter lists the GPM as 4.5. I used the .2 micron for the test.
      Here is what their FAQ says about flow rate: www.clearsourcerv.com/pages/frequently-asked-questions
      "What are the flow ratings on the systems?
      That’s an important question. We use oversize, high flow filter canisters for maximum water flow. We lab tested our two canister system at a low 40 PSI of static pressure, and measured an outstanding 6 GPM - 6.5 gallons per minute of water flow. Under the same conditions, our Ultra system produces approximately 4.5 gallons of flow."

    • @batmanforever2168
      @batmanforever2168 2 года назад +2

      Yes, I have read the marketing material. You CAN flow the water faster, but regardless but if you do you are no longer filtering at the same level.
      Water system are more than a bunch of components slapped together. There is fluid dynamics and material design to consider.
      My only point is, users need to be aware of what they are getting and how to use it to protect themselves. Make sure to buy from engineering and/or technology companies.

      Odd, I called the manufacturer and they said it wasn't advisable the flow rate Clear Source was using. Blu Technology said they could increase their foiw rate but the studies suggest that's not in the best interest of the filters Longevity nor the quality of water... so they won't.
      I have both Clear Source and Blu Tech filters and my 3 RV friends and I all prefer Blu Techs far better not only due to they're far lighter buy they don't leak like Clear Sources do for many.
      The only complaint on Blu Tech is it took 1.5 days for them to reply to my email but it was a holiday weekend... so may not be their typical customer service reply turnaround? Both shipped fast, both packed well... both gave instructions. Oh I did like Blus free bag of jellybeans with both of my units from them... very nice touch! Overall both are good yet Blu seems more quality, is far better aesthetically, and the Blu units are more convenient and light weight plus don't leak... so Blu wins for me and my 3 RV'n friends.
      I will call the filter manufacturer again on this though.

    • @LoveYourRV

      In my mind its only logical that the 5 inch Blu Tech filter would have around half the flow rate as the 10 inch Clearsource given the larger surface area of the filter material. Like having two Blu Tech 5 inch stacked. So they are basically flowing about the same. btw, here is a video of the Clearsource filtering ink ruclips.net/video/BTOuGstkj2Y/видео.html They say ink is a small particle to filter out so good for testing.

    I am curious about how many litres or gallons can be filtered before the filters are considered spent? Do you have to replace the Blu filters more often?

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  2 года назад +1

      This is from there website FAQ: "There are three ways to know when to change your filters: Every 1,000 - 2,000 gallons of water used (SEE NOTE BELOW); once a season (every 3-4 months), or when you see a drop in your water pressure. If the filter sits stagnant for an extended period of time, you should change it before your next trip.
      NOTE: And depending on the turbidity of your water source you may have to change more often. Additionally, the 10 inch .2 micron filters, filters up to 2,000 gallons and the 5 inch .2 micron filters up to 1,000."
      So that tells me the smaller Blu Tech filters have about 1/2 the life as the larger Clearsource filters.

      @@LoveYourRV Ah that is the part I was wondering about. I guess the next part of the equation is how many litres of water will a guy filter before the "time" requirement times out. For some it may not matter for heavy use it may well.

    I dont trust any of these companies. The flow rate doesnt matter, if its not filtering as its suppose to. Take Berkey for instance. A youtuber recently sent out his Berkey filtered water for testing and the results were not good. I know Blu says on the website that their water is independently tested, well so did Berkey🙄. Problem is, sending water out to be tested is pricey.
