@@abovetheinfluence9361 Yeah some good cans would bring the bass out, you're maybe missing some of the quality, they took at lot of care over the production so good quality headphones is a must. You just gotta explore some Pink Floyd tracks too, 'Dark side of the moon' album is the classic, but it's a full concept which works best in track order, and preferably a full side at a time.

Yes! You zoned right into it.
The ebb and flow, the movement of this song is spectacular. The rising intensity of Bonham's high hats sliding into Page's unexpected Flamenco riffs is breathtaking. Jones' bass drives the whole piece like a Maserati! Plant's vocals told the story with such passion! IMO, this is a masterpiece in a catalog of iconic bangers.

WAIT WHAT ?..and , we never really new they were still recording.!!..we thought( at 9 yrs old) that they were some old 60's band.....we had memorized the first 5 albums,...every note........and then my birthday came and I got "Physical graffiti" a week after it came out .March 2 1975......AND IT WAS A DOUBLE ALBUM...my brother gave it to me....i told my posse I got the new Zep Album and i was having a listening party...my basement had 10 kids ready for me to open the album...i remember my folks,..lol..like "what is he doing??...i cant believe all these kids showed up for some record!"...lol....I guess Dad figured he better go Dad mode, he went and got buckets of KFC and soda pop.lol......I am still friends with two of the kids who attended, they always tell me , whenever they hear a song off of Physical Graffiti , they remember eating Chicken in my folks basement at a listening party....something must of happened, because I went on to a 35 year career in the music industry..lol...I owe it all to "physical Graffiti"

Lol. Do we have more Zeppelin songs? Yes. Yes we do. How about anything by them? You're not going to find many groups that have 9 albums and every song is worth a listen... maybe a few thousand. Since this is the second song off their first album, why not start with the first song on the album? Good Times, Bad Times. Then just work your way through their 1st album and you'll start to see why they call it the "Zeppelin rabbit hole." Welcome to the peak of rock mountain, it's a helluva view.
PS Thanks for putting up the artwork of the actual album it was on and not one of their compilation albums, like Mothership.

The Song was written by Anne Breton and recorded by folk singer Joan Baez. Jimmy Page heard Joan's version and decided to rework it into this. The album cover picture is of the Hindenburg which exploded in flames, killing all aboard, I believe. Another name for this type of craft is a zeppelin, named after its creator, Ferdinand Con Zeppelin. The Zeppelin family tried to use for using their family name but we're unsuccessful.

So many great Zeppelin songs to do. Like you, my first Zeppelin song was Stairway to Heaven, not long after its release, though I was a kid then. In College, I had become a hard rock fan, and was re-introduced to some of their kick-ass songs on their second and fourth albums, like Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker, Black Dog, When the Levee Breaks, Misty Mountain Hop. It was in my first semester freshman year (September, 1980) that drummer John Bonham died, leading to the breakup of the band. I heard the song "Dazed and Confused" on the radio and it was then that I knew I was in love with this band and needed to collect all of their albums. Dazed and Confused is on their first album, as is this song, so after purchasing that album, I heard this song in my dorm for the first time.

Led Zeppelin does nearly all blues-based songs - they started with interpretations of Black American blues songs, and went on to write their own - they worked in reggae, Indian, folk styles but always with a blues feeling: the man hurt by his woman -- If you haven't heard Dazed and Confused, that's a must-hear -- but many others are great, for instance Ramble On, or You Shook Me -- Robert Plant the singer is half gypsy, the bassist John Paul Jones plays keyboards and is academy-trained -- in a four-man band, everybody must carry their weight, and these guys are all masters. I was about 16 when this first album came out, we were all thirsty for electric blues, and these guys took it to a hard-rock level. The first and big hard rock bands were Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience -- you might try Cream;s Sitting On Top of the World, a smoldering slow blues number, or their biggest hit Sunshine of Your Love - if you can find it, try Manic Depression by Hendrix or else Message to Love. Also, Janis Joplin started with hard rock, try Combination of the Two (fun!) -- and maybe the band Mountain, their song Mississippi Queen for starters - there was a period when that blues-rock style took off - we'd never heard anything like it before

And According to an interview Plant did back in 1982, this is Zepplin's cover of an old Joan Biaz song from the Early 60's loosely based on a Soldier based over Seas, Falls in love, then is called away for active duty! And is AGONIZING over having to leave his lady!

I saw Led Zeppelin for the first time in 1969 at the Rose Palace in Pasadena, CA. They did this song during the show and it was fantastic. I saw them again two more times in the early 1970s at the Arizona State University Activities Center in Tempe.

I read a story that the members of Led Zeppelin, early in their career, met with the aristocratic female heir of the Zeppelin name in order to come to some sort of understanding since she had objected to their use of the family name. Jimmy Page, the guitarist handed her a complementary copy of the album you have up there. She didn't appreciate the photo of the burning craft and went berserk. Anyway, it did not go over well.

Thank you sir. Great reaction to this song. I was 15 when this came out. I worked at a Kentucky Fried Chicken, and there was a music store next door. I couldn't wait to get my paycheck that week, so I could go next door and purchase that album. I remember that day like it was yesterday. I would sit for hours listening to them, analyzing every sound. Watching you react, reminded me of the joy that album brought me back then.

I like your thoughtful and insightful reactions. Since you have already heard Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, I would encourage you to check out the cover By Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart that they performed live at The Kennedy Center Honors for Led Zeppelin with the surviving members of the band in the audience. It is an absolutely inspired version with a crack band including horns, strings and choir. Awesome!

"BABE I’M GONNA LEAVE YOU" is a song about a man with a wandering soul that's torn between leaving and staying with the women he loves. It's not a break-up song. The lead singer's name is Robert Plant. The first time I ever heard this song I was 17 years old, and I'm 67 now and it still sounds great after all these years. The song is from Led Zeppelin's debut L.P from 1969 watch was heavily blues-influenced. Most of the songs are old blues songs from the '30s, '40s, & rom'50s. Thank you for putting the music that I grow-up listening to out there. If I may suggest, check out "Pink Floyd" song (Time) from the L.P "Dark Side Of The Moon". P.S and headphones are a must. ENJOY.

The only live stuff that sounds great is from The Song Remains the Same, which was brought into the studio and tweaked until near flawless, so it sounds so good. Led Zeppelin is the best, but live, not so much.

I was a big fan of zeppelin, but a friend of mine told me about this one when we were going to a party one night. great song. my definitive list. trust me, you will really like these: stairway, fool in the rain, dy'er maker, over the hills and far away, all of my love ,whole lotta love, rock and roll, the ocean, thank you. A lot of other people on this channel picked a lot of bluesy stuff and some their unusual artsy stuff, but I like the melody driven songs they put out a lot more. I like to studio versions first, then live later.

What made Zeppelin great was the fact they took influences from “every” music genre! As most British rock bands from the 60’s & 70’s did-they we’re heavily influenced by the (delta) blues music of the south but borrowed from everything!

Robert Plant-Lead vocals, John Paul Jones-Bass, John Bonham-Drums and Jimmy Page-Lead guitars. You are correct about the album cover, that is the Hindenburg. The Hindenburg was a German airship called a Zeppelin. When the band first formed and were still nameless, Kieth Moon from the band the Who said they would go down like a lead balloon. Out of this comment came the name Led Zeppelin and the rest is rock history!

Yes, the Hindenburg was a Zeppelin. A rigid Airship with an aluminum frame covered with a fabric, then varnished. The lift was from huge bags of hydrogen inside the frame. The passenger cabins were also inside the frame, with viewing ports on the lower side. The Zeppelin was operated from a gondola underneath.

Supposedly, this was a guy being shipped off to Vietnam. He had to leave her, but didn’t want to. Toward the end of the song, he was dreaming of when he returned to her. “Walking through the park every day, come what may”. Who knows, right?

This song has as its main feature the idea of the Rambling Man. He's a figure from the folklore of the British Isles, the man who cannot stay, who is called by life to keep wandering always. Plant and Page were and are very deeply versed in the folklore of their country, and those ideas and images are all over their music. Plant is also a huge Ringer, so the influence of LOTR and Tolkien's stories crop up over and over in Zep's music, as well. You'll hear it most clearly on "Ramble On" and "Battle of Evermore", where he actually mentions characters from LOTR. (Oh, and _most_ of Robert's lyrics on the early albums are basically whining about how badly some woman is treating him. It took a couple of albums before he found something deeper or more complex to write about.)

Lead singer is Robert Plant, he has another band now, still going strong at 71 years old. When the band became popular, they made a pact that if one left the band or passed away, they would stop performing, when the Drummer, John Bonham (perhaps the best there ever has been), died at age 32 when he choked to death on his own vomit while asleep. But, they did get together one more concert, the drummer was John Bonham's son, Jason Bonham played the drums for the final short tour.

it was written by anne bredon, later recorded by joan baez, who by that time didn't know who had written it & credited as a traditional. zeppelin also thought it was a traditional & added their own spin to it. the spanish guitar (flamenco) touches show the influence of the moors who had invaded spain.

Fyi this is a folk song written by Anne Bredon in the late 1950's. It was recorded by the folk singer Joan Baez and appeared on an album she released in 1962, as well as being performed by other artists in a variety of different styles. In the late eighties Anne Bredon became aware of the Led Zeppelin version, and since 1990 she has received a substantial backlog of royalties.

    (The Hindenburg)
The way this band got its name is that they were told by a music producer that their sound was going to go over like a "lead zeppelin. (A lead balloon.)
" No one would like it."
So, they did what all hard headed people do and used the name Led Zeppelin as their group name and, the rest is history and the history is amazing!).
Robert Plant on lead vocals (and harmonica on other tracks), John Bonham on drums, Jimmy Page lead guitar, John Paul Jones on rhythm guitar.
