This movie is deeply underrated. It's almost as good as his other Vietnam War films, and Hiep Thi Le was incredible in the lead role, especially given that it was her first ever film role.
Well I think Stone is often brutally honest and people don't always like Reality. I don't know if another director had made Platoon if it would have been as respected a film but he was actually there so people should not argue with him about how violent it was etc. because it was true. That doesn't mean other survival stories are not honest also though. Maybe some people prefer Apocalypse Now to Platoon but Kurtz was loosely based on Conrads Heart of Darkness not the directors first hand accounts and experiences.
Oliver Stone is a gifted filmmaker. I hope he gets another chance to make a great film. In this interview, he looks exhausted, he was going through a divorce.

Oliver Stone's most underrated film.
I’d say Salvador is his most underrated but that’s my opinion. Heaven & Earth really is quite underrated though.
Oliver Stone speaks so well! I love hearing him.
Stone is DEEP and so solid.....a favourite Director and Human Being of mine.
14:00 he says "this thing is going to go on and on", in reference to US invasions in 1993. How right he was/is.
So sad that Hiep died. A truly precious person
Fukn A.🍻
His masterpiece. Shocking it did not get nominated for best picture .
One of my favorite films ever. I ended up buying the book too.
The Most underrated film ever.
the film just stunned me...the first such film
Heaven & Earth is quite good. Not on a lot of people's radar. Very well shot. The Tommy Lee Jones character is very well done & very tragic.

The description says the film takes place before and after WW2.
It's a Vietnam war film
17:45 Rose got the facts wrong. OS directed The Hand in 1981 and Seizure in 1974.
It’s not the first time Charlie Rose got something wrong
2:16 "if life is a roulette wheel......." great line...
Charlie sounded super southern all of a sudden at 0:54 then he quickly dialed it back
Rip Hiep thi le and Oliver stone
I Love Oliver!!!!

It's a pity that he couldn't realize his movie about Noriega.
