After watching this i have a new found respect for Oliver Stone,I always felt like I connected with him this documentary confirms the connection,God bless him and the accomplishments he's made, artist know artist 😊
I started watching this, planning to see it in instalments. I watched it all in one sitting, I had to listen to the very end. Stone is such a fascinating speaker, not to mention a great film maker.
There are no modern filmmakers that are following in Stones footsteps and there should be. He's done his part, and now its time for a new generation to take his lead. There are so many questions that filmmakers should be asking the american public.
We need more directors like him. I hope that someday someone will continue the path of storytelling and not giving in to the evils of Hollywood. Be true to yourself and be an artist with something to profound to say.
Love him or hate him, Oliver Stone is a force of nature and he has something to say. His films are both hugely entertaining and thought provoking. A great film maker.
Oliver Stones movies raises awareness for anyone who prefers truth over propaganda, the world is in need of knowing history as it happened not as it was made-up.
This is amazing. It's timing is perfect. Just before 9-11 and he's talking about people opening their eyes and questioning what they're being fed. Its such a shame that his message has not been heard by the majority. Oliver Stone could be my favourite director.
I really appreciate his candor and conviction - both rare and admirable traits in this day and age, not only within the arts/media but life in general ... JFK, Natural Born Killers, Nixon, Born on the 4th of July, and The Doors are all among my favorite movies
Steven Soderburgh? Stuart Townsend? Robert Connolly? Andrew Niccol? Spike Lee? Michael Mann? The Wachowski brothers? Edward Zwick? James Cameron? Neill Blomkamp? Kevin Costner? Robert Rodriguez? Joshua Seftel? Emilio Estevez? Ken Loach? Taylor Hackford? Stephen Gaghan? Hans Weingartner? Leslie Harris? Timo Vuorensola? Mario Van Peebles? Antoine Fuqua? Paul Greengrass? Alejandro Amenábar? Dennis Gansel? Karan Johar? Paul Scheuring? John Sayles? Gavin Hood? Michael Seitzman? Michael Winterbottom?
Not really but he's up there. If you're wondering my shortlist is Francis Ford Coppola, Terrence Malick, Wes Anderson and Woody Allen... In no particular order.
The same critical nonsense was said over and over about Sam Fuller's movies - and still is, even by his admirers: "No subtlety." "Blunt." "Grabbing by the throat." And his pictures are more memorable than 90% of everything that was made while he was working. Just as Stone's are. Thanks for sharing this.
LOVE YOUR WORK MR. OLIVER STONE , YOUR TRUELY ARTIST !!! muahhh , AMERICAN PEOPLES LUCKY 2 HAVE YOU , I WISH THEY KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO SHOW 2 THEM THE TRUE NO LIE , RELIGION IS CRIME
He tells the truthe in the age of nine i watcht Scarface,Natral Born Killers Platoon,U-Turn,Nixon and JFK and i loved all thos movies and i have seen others like Alexander but still need to see Savages.
Mr Stone do a movie or a documentary that contrast the many engineers, physicists, and other experts, that with empirical data have questioned the accepted Popular Mehanics accepeted notion of reality that avoids , the many professionals in engineering and physicists that question that narrative accepted as reality?
wish he would do films about 9/11 , Oklahoma City, Waco, and Randy Weaver in Idaho....I am a fan of Stanley Kubrick, John Carpenter....They Live.....Escape From LA....
I will say Oliver Stone is nutty. But there is some weird sense to how he describes his films. I'm glad I saw this because now I have a lot more clarity on his body of work. Born On The Fourth Of July might be my favorite he did. He did a great job in capturing that piece of Americana of being young and naive about war. Kind of ironic when you see this is labeled as 2001. The same year we would have 9/11. And of course our new Vietnam. But I don't want to simplify it like that. Love our military and know in reality they are the last line of defense if shit hits the fan.
History and psychology show us that fascism creates inequality, conflict, and unhappiness. In contrast, democratic socialism, a system where everyone's human rights are valued, and everyone has equal wealth and power, means equality, peace, social harmony and happiness.
A lot of these Oliver Stone videos are in need of volume adjustments--barely audible at 100% volume. This one and the Bill Moyers interview are just two examples. I'm missing a lot of these programs because I can't hear them. Please see what can be done about this--I'm not having this problem with other videos, so it's not my equipment that's the problem.
Please Mr Stone, push on with rattling the electronic leash that intellect is strangled by because the people that have stopped reading are uncomfortable with/ inconvenienced by... we need TRUTH
Oliver Stone's idea is simple (looks like he is a person who easily gets angry at any complications)--the only worthy people are those who look like Oliver Stone.
Indonesia`s population was 30 % christians,30%buddist,30%islamic, There was even a organisation above their goverment that was to insure that no religion got too much controll of the country`s leadership and politic. This was 1991 for crying out load. After continues attacks on churches, schools, and mass mourders from islamic`s "innocent civilians" the indonesians "suddently changed to 97.3% islam. there was 253 different repot of murder on citisence for not convert to islam.
I think Stone is a brilliant filmmaker, but I cannot wrap my mind around the idea that it's wrong to be a fascist. I've studied numerous political schools of thought and fascism made the most sense because it was unilateral, crystalline and clear.
How well said: "The man becomes increasingly denatured by the environment, by the global virtual (versus real) human experience..." I'd only add, even more drastically "dehumanized by global violence"... thanks...
Other than some outstanding technical achievements in JFK,the guy has contributed nothing to cinema. He's made films that are not only bad, there actually flat out unwatchable.Salvador? Sucked.Platoon? Really fucking sucked.Wall Street? Sucked.Born on the 4th of july?Depressing...and it sucked. The Doors? Depressing...and it sucked.JFK? Sucked.Natural Born Killers? Maybe the worst movie ever made.I gave up after that.I haven't seen a movie of his since.
Those ''points'' had no subtlety or originality to it.Platoon is a film made up of every anti-soldier cliche, with one dimensional good guys and bad guys...and charlie sheen is maybe the worst actor ever.Wall Street is only redeemable because of douglas.Again, sheen, maybe the worst actor ever.Cruise is good in born on the 4th of july, but it's nothing more than a dreary and melodramatic story about a self-pitying,drunken cripple. His films are like scorsese's raging bull, seeing it once..is enough.
The story and characters in Platoon were based on Stone's lived experience as a soldier in Vietnam. To describe the film as 'anti-soldier' demonstrates that you didn't actually pay attention to the story or the characters. Many of his films are worth repeat viewing, especially given that some people apparently have trouble understanding his film making style... yourself for example.

I could listen to Stone all day. A great and original storyteller. Platoon and Wall Street are the two best movies of the 80's.
thank you for sharing this awesome interview! Been my favorite director for years...now I know the reason! Long live "Natural Born Killers"!

Really? Its just random ramblings of a cokehead
@@HeLovesZelda Perhaps it's better to keep quiet since you didn't understand anything Stone was talking about.

According to his own words here the current generation lacks real life experience
Oliver Stone is a prolific film director. This interview on him is amazing thanks for posting this.
Love him or hate him, Oliver Stone is a force of nature and he has something to say. His films are both hugely entertaining and thought provoking. A great film maker.
Why hate? His main mission is to show how complex history & politics are, and that the main story we always get is written by those in power.

He is the propaganda
sbaugess explain?
I differ with him in some areas, too, @sbaugess , but I know better than to make a dumb ass statement like that

Lacks the courage or cogency to do so
I adore his comparisons between the Greeks and Christians/Muslims.
My hero

4:00-5:00 - words of amazingly prophetic truth.

Oliver Stone, I love your soul and fighting Greek Spirit, your "Elan" !
why is this video always broken. Just watched 3 youtube videos in 1080p, no problem, this one can't get 26 seconds in without constant freezing.
Best director in the USA.
Great guy

Robert Rodriguez? He makes live action cartoons. His films have absolutely no message. Same with Cameron.
