Hi Brian, almost 100k views on this one! Just shared it with a student of mine! You have videos on almost everything I've taught for the last 2 years! Thanks bud!
Most underrated teacher on youtube. I never thought I'd have to do long division again my whole life though haha. Guess I was wrong about that. Its back
Jesus i must be extra stupid if I cant even understand with you explaining like this 😔 rewatched it 3 times and that long division part still took me out
@3:25 I got cleared up some confusion that I got from the channel named: "The Organic Chemistry Tutor" I'm very impressed that you did this better than he did. This is exactly what I was hoping for, and why I'm here. 👍👍
f(x) = a(b)^x + c....... Horizontal asymptote is y=4........ 2 points of the function are(1, 0) and (2, -12)..... The function is decaying.... Find a, b and c Pls help with this one sir
Hi there, I am hoping that someone will read this and help me!! lol ... I am taking the math cset next week and there is a practice problem that states which of the following is an equation for the slant asymptote of f(x)= x^3 -1 /(divided by) x^2 and the answer is y=x BUT I CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHY!!!! HEEEEEELP
do long division with the given rational function. You will get the answer x+1/x^2. As he said in the video, don't worry about the remainder just the divisor without it, which is x. Therefore the answer is y=x
its because there was nothing but x cubed at the top, so (if you'll imagine a number line, that might help) when the x cubed was subtracted from the x cubed, you got 0. However, you still had the -1x, so it was effectively 0 - (-1x).
Why don’t you use standard terminology for numerator, denominator, dividend, etc.? I find that using standard terminology and pronunciation increases student understanding?
There's no asymptote because an asymptote must be linear by definition. But, the graph will always approach the function that is the quotient of the two polynomials (without the remainder). So, if the quotient is x^2, then the graph will approach the parabola x^2, but again, it's not an asymptote, because it's not linear.
hi thank you so much i understood but i have realized something weird like Americans and europeans have very strange last name i mean what is McLogan oh my god
this 5 min vid is better for me than my whole hr long classes 😭

Absolutely! What you teaching these days
12 years later and his vid is still alive , i have a test in couple of days and i really appreciate his work as it helped so much .
Gosh why can't all teachers explain it like this? Thank you 🙏
This really helps in quarantine times. Thank you!
Thanks for all the videos! They are excellent and outstanding, please keep up the amazing content. 👍
Thank you! the only person who I could find who explained this in a way I really could understand🙏🏽
Man I remember you saving my ass back in highschool.
saved me during highscool, and still saving me in college
I got mathematics board exam tomorrow and I found this video to be very helpful for curve sketching. Thank You Sir ❤❤

try finding his long division videos. I had to go back and practice long division too.
Thank you for helping me with pre calc
I love this channel, I got a test tomorrow and this is very useful because I missed one day that went over this.
So happy to help you out!!0

You are very helpful, but dude, you must make your videos louder. I often times have to raise my computer volume all the way up just for your videos
what irrational thing would happen if the graph touched the slant asymptote?

Happy to help
thank you sir
Thanks but that horizontal line was something else
This video is 12 years old today
0 minus negative 1 is positive x???
subtracting a negative creates a positive
AJ Kanakry yes!! haha, man thats basic division. this is why i got F in this lesson
So the slant is x?
You’re a saint, thank you :)
Thank you for the help.
Why did he add the 0 on top of the -1x during the Long division part
its because there was nothing but x cubed at the top, so (if you'll imagine a number line, that might help) when the x cubed was subtracted from the x cubed, you got 0. However, you still had the -1x, so it was effectively 0 - (-1x).
IF YOU ARE READING THIS, YOUR ATTENTION SPAN IS WAYYY TOO SHORT. GO BACK TO WATCHING MR. MCLOGAN 😀
haha
Thank you soooo much, ur videos help me alottt
How is a slant asymptote possible
Wow great video
I don't understand the slant at all. You should do more examples instead of one.
I did the limit method of f(x) - x and f(x) /x I got the wrong answer why?
cause u trash boi

does anyone else hear him say asympTOPE instead of asympTOTE

What if degree difference is 2....?
I'm pretty sure you still do the same thing
There won't be an asymptote.
There’s probably a hole

Why is the residual not important?
I thought that it was 1x and not 0x I’ve never seen 0x Oml I’m terrible at math
who else is here cuz they cant do their history homework?
Lol forgot how to do long division 😂
