  • 👉 Learn how to graph a rational function. To graph a rational function, we first find the vertical and horizontal or slant asymptotes and the x and y-intercepts. After finding the asymptotes and the intercepts, we graph the values and then select some random points usually at each side of the asymptotes and the intercepts and graph the points, this enables us to identify the behavior of the graph and thus enable us to graph the function.

It was always confusing for me why a function sometimes cuts the horizontal asymptote.
You explained in simple terms that its just because a horizontal asymptote does not restrict the domain.

  • @jgarrison1309

A nice big point 3:03 Explain here that it is possible to cross a horizontal asymptote in some places on the graph. It serves as a do not cross boundary line in most cases, but not all, as we shall soon see. Do that immediately, as the point is hitting the graph.

    • @hotman718

Just a tip for telling the difference between a Hole and a Vertical Asymptote:
Simplify the equation down to its simplest form, any invalid values of x in this new equation are asymptotes of the old one, while invalid values of x that are just in the original and not the simplified ones are just holes.
