I finally figured it out. The other shops send these jobs to you, hoping you'll make a video. Then THEY will know how to do it next time! 😋
They will know how to do the other side now part 2's out!!
Lets hope they at least subscribe!
Great comment
absolutely!
Either that or it slows him down ( because he cares) so they can do gravy jobs.
Though I enjoy the electrical diagnostic videos and such. There’s nothing like a good old brute force mechanical repair video. Sawzall, smoke, sparks flying, bearing pullers, bearing presses, hammers, and BIG NASTY made an appearance too. This video had it all, thanks for the ride Eric and family.
I didn't see the brake clean, nor did I see (or hear) the promised fluid film.
@@timothybarney7257 i mean nuts off was in part 1 so that kinda makes up for it
@@timothybarney7257 that Subaru wasn't worth spraying any fluid flim cause that car only has about 6 more months to be on the road.
A emmy nomination?
Eric sprayed the new bolt with Fluid Film
Even on a car that has 3 wheels in the crusher you do an honest and thorough job. Nothing but respect for you sir.
Those Subarus are environmentally friendly, with all that rust, they biodegrade back into the earth.
And head gaskets help spread nice glycol into air
@Wheel bearing Yes, You get what you pay for, cheap vehicles plus bad engine design.
@Wheel bearing not that great better than a Jeep or a German car..
All makes and models are in NY State.
Its what makes a Subaru a Subaru
Every tools a hammer, until you smack your finger, then its a throwing object!
Sometimes smashing your finger can let the bad words out too.
i've made up new words doing that lol
@@richardcranium5839 I do that everu day lol
You can use a wrench as a hammer but a hammer cannot always be used as a wrench
I cracked it so bad 1 day trying to get a steering arm off I threw a screwdriver. Problem is it wedged itself good in wood board of side of house. Another time I cracked it and threw a knife (was trying to cut off a cable tie) and it bounced off a piece of wood and bounced back into my boot. Luckily the steel toe deflected it and it got stuck in the outside leather part of boot. What did I learn ? Throw AWAY from stuff, less likely it will bounce back at you or get stuck into something.
I really can't describe how much I adore this channel. Just the best wholesome, useful automotive content on the Internet. The banter between Eric and Mrs O, the appearances of Hanner and Miss Marie, Vinnie, Sheba. It's just epic! Keep up the awesome work. :)
“Just enjoy the video folks.” Best statement ever!
That and “every tools a hammer.”
👍👍
glad i live in georgia, thought i found some rust on my '99 isuzu but it was just red clay
Just did the same job yesterday on mu son's Subaru yesterday. Not os bad as yours. Got bolt out & reused it. The entire job wasn't to bad. I still like watching you & do pick up things from your show.
I live to watch your electrical trouble shooting on the computers & fuse block issues. You are a pro. Just picked up an X tool bidirectional scanner to troubleshoot my own & friends problems. You are teaching me alot please keep your showing. Your the best
Mike Zacek from pottstown Pennsylvania.
Videos like this make me glad I'm a California mechanic.
When other shops can't do it - it's a piece of cake for SMA.
Any time I get jonesing for a new SMA episode and there are none to be had, I go back until I find Eric doing a brake job or anything with a Subaru in it. Instant gratification.
Yep , can never get enough brakleen !
No Fast Food for Eric O., he has his own personal Chef with the beautiful Mrs. O. Another great video, I love the long and two-part ones!
Great video.... The amount of rust on that thing just blows me away....
Love those Diablo blades too, I contacted them and asked for a poster...they sent me a large trade-show type banner that's now hanging in my garage!
so nice to see mrs o bringing the coffee and everything else she does. youre a lucky guy.
perfect timing. Watched part 1 right before I left for work, come home and Part 2 was just uploaded!
Nuts, bolts, beating, cutting, wrenching, greasing and pressing. It's why I became a mechanic and is my favorite type of video to watch. Keep em comin!
Love a nuts and bolts project every now and again Eric. The mix of that and diagnostics is what made your channel so great.
Good stuff.
Another very satisfying episode of my favorite auto repair guy.
Living in Minnesota and dealing with RUST!! The nuts and bolts fighting the rust is what got me to your site.
The sheer number of tricks you have turned me onto would fill a book. Or at least a med size pamphlet.
I dont even go near one of my beaters with out Fluid film or a air hammer handy.
Here is an example: Swapping out the bearing hubs on our 08 Chrysler Town and country.
One year I did the brakes and the rear hubs. Took me two friggin days to pound off the hubs.
I watched a few episodes staring Big Nasty.
This year I did the front bearings and the struts. Took me ten minutes to get them out.
Wow, this was a brutal video.....all that cutting, hammering, battering, sanding and lubing !!!!!!! It's a good darn tootin that Mrs. O. made that powerful lunch on the stove for you to recharge !!! And, she brought you that cup of coffee - Love is Grand !!!!! She knows her man works hard to provide for her and the kids and the dogs !!!!! She's a fine old school woman !!!!! That car sure was a rust bomb, it's only a matter of weeks till the struts start leaking, all the channels, bars, frame parts etc break in half !!!!!! If that brake shoe lining was any thinner, you could use a little Gillette Foamy and shave with it !!! Tires looked good. Another job well done in the "" Rust Belt "" of Avoca, New York !!!!! A full "Hats Off" to you, Eric....you da man !!!!!!!!
400k Subs are around the corner, amazing to see this channel grow! Keep it up Eric.
I live pretty much rust free down south, but I bought a 2000 Nissan Quest from New York just so I could fully appreciate the job you do.
This rust-bucket has an upcoming appointment with "the judge"
I’ve been watching your videos for a while now. You Sir are a Master Mechanic. Excellent Work.
SMA does it again. It's a shame the amount of damage rust does. But, vehicle owners are fortunate to find skilled and honest shops like SMA. Keep up the great work!
I extremely love the repair videos and have helped me several times with my 2002 Chevy blazer ,but the interaction between you and Mrs. O makes my day. You are a very ,very lucky man.
Just another great video. Thank you for what you do, educate and entertain us DIY mechanics.
You're a true master at your craft. Thanks for sharing.
This was my favorite SMA video in months. Thanks for the great content! :)
Better than Netflix, thanks Eric.
Well done for doing the jobs no one else wants to touch.
The poor lady being told no one can fix her car.
Then it gets sent to SMA and with no drama, "Your car is ready to collect madam."
Always amazing work, I’ve been following Eric/SMA for over a year
SMA Video during a snow storm..JOY OF JOYS! almost white out conditions here in Ontario....
That was some good old mechanical work. I like how many of the other shops in your area recognize you as being the guy that can do the work that they can't do. Very cool!
“Just enjoy the video folks” well said Mr. O. This guy is giving free entertainment and free knowledge what more do you want!! Well done as always keep them coming can’t beat a good old nuts and bolts video!!
Eric,
Great job - thank you! I did contrast this video set vs the Subi rear bearing you did in 2017 where you salvaged the long cross bolt (then replaced it!).
SMA#1
God bless
Paul (in MA)
Thanks for a break from diagnostics..... you're my favorite RUclips channel.... by a looooong margin! Cheers from Oklahoma... Scotty Kilmer sends his love!!
Eric, I’ve been watching your vids for a few years now and still enjoy watching each to completion. I guess as one commenter said three or four years ago, you truly are the Stephen Spielberg of Automotive Repair Videography... All that and a great Tech too! I’ll be near your area this summer, and will be calling to arrange service on the War Department’s Honda while visiting from Pennsylvania. Cheers until then - hope winter remains comparatively mild for you and your family.
I do all my own stuff, have a lift in my garage, still enjoy watching your work. THANK YOU Mr. O for being the best cracked-strut-mount guy around! It's odd how satisfying the press in/press out bearings are. No idea why, but I really enjoy that stuff. Will have to try the pinky method next time.
You've got a great touch and approach.
Thanks for the series.
Nice... catching part 2, while getting things together for work. Brisk one today!
Thanks for another great video. I really like these nuts and bolts videos. Keep 'em coming!
I guess if I had a $1000 plus scan tool I'd pay more attention to the diagnostic videos. Don't get me wrong, I always learn something but the bruit force, suspension, drive train and brake videos are my favorite because I can relate. If you'd do a 5.4 3v phaser fix I'd be even happier. Love the channel. Thanks for sharing.
WE USED DEABLO FOR EXTRICATION, THEY LAST EVEN WITH GLASS. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS.
Mike B
Eric, my friends thank you. I have fixed more of their cars and boats since watching your videos. Mostly just for the enjoyment of being able to practice the knowledge I am learning from you, Keith and Ivan. Finally putting the tools and basic mechanics to work with a plan and intent. No more parts canon! Actually feel like I know what and why I am doing something. Keep up the great vids. Mike B Tarrytown
Hi, I've been a mechanic for over 30 years now. You make such enjoyable videos brother. You're great at what you do and make it fun to watch. Thanks, Hill
Thanks for taking the time!
Glad to see you use the 3M bristle brush to clean metal. I love those things! Cleans without damaging the metal. You'll get better life out of them if you use a slower rotational speed.
Another job done. And a happy customer. Thanks for sharing.
thank you 4 the video. i was getting scared of doing it myself but after watching you do it and chilling. i am now confident in doing it myself
Love you "Dude" voice!! You dont miss a trick and are more thorough than others or they wouldnt be sending their messes to your shop... Always good to see your wife and family to in your vids.
Here in the UK with the rust on that sill it wouldn't pass your version on an inspection. The MOT test (Ministry of Transport) that poor car would have been in the scrappers along time ago. Another great video keep it up
erics perseverence i what keeps 'em coming back..........long may he continue, ace videos as always
Excellent job Eric thanks for sharing!
My hat off to you sir! Great learning video, mostly for others in the industry for learning how to do the hard jobs. I have a greater respect for the shops that readily take these jobs that a dealership shop would never consider. As you alluded near the end, this car is not likely to see more than a year or so before heading to the junkyard. Gives us all an idea of just when to call it quits on a car. Certainly this one should have been a candidate for the chopper now.
Eric, enjoyed the video, your personality makes it fun and I learn alot. Thanks, ! !
Very well done demonstration. Helped tremendously with my bearing replacement
Quite a pleasure for a DIYer like me getting instruction on how to do a tough job. I really like how you explain the small but important points as you go through this repair. Thank you!
Got the job finished today, Ol' Forester Gump works like it should again! Thanks for the videos, they were very helpful ;)
Love these nuts and bolts videos Eric! Keep em coming.
great video of a subie wheel rear bearing , helped me a bunch dont have all the tools you have but i struggled through thanks again///Pete from NC
Awesome timing I literally just finished part1
Good job Big E, I see a Soopy rear brake job in a future work order from a newly formed happy customer.
I need more videos like this. Sometimes I get tired of thinking and just want to enjoy seeing how you get down to business working on rusty crap. We don't have that here where I live, everything just falls a part if you don't tighten the bolts good. Oh and by the way I think it is time for another day in the shop video, it's been 5 months now.
I just noticed that the star adjuster for the drum brakes is at the top beside the slave cylinder, not at the bottom of the drum where it usually is. Presumably they did that because the knuckle assembly obstructed access to the star from behind. Another brilliant video, Eric!
spelunkerd It also look like it needs brakes
Definitely miss the old nuts and bolts sma vids but Love the vids keep up the good work
Awesome Video.
This reminded me of my first job in a garage. If the boss could not get the bolt by torch, well than bring out the SawZall. I grew up in CT (rust belt), and still live here.
With a rusty rim on that car I am surprised the customer still owes it. Perhaps the owner is in love with that sooby. Bless them
We knew there was no doubt that you couldn't handle it great job and video as usual.
Your rust slaying skillz are strong. Great video.
I said this on your last video but i really want you to see it. Do more videos like this Eric! I miss the good ol fashion Eric O beating the hell out of stuff and rambling on about the work and other things hes doing. Awesome work my man. Have a good day
Another fine piece of work from the "Doctor of Fixology".
I'm from the south , we cringe when we see those up north rust buckets
I'm from NYC and I can't believe it when I see an older car from the South that not a rust bucket...so jealous!!!
Chase Sage same here I see a Florida car one every 4 months lol lucky oxygen sensor spins right off
I am only a hobby mechanic and I wouldn't be that in New England. I am spoiled living in Florida. Things just come apart with a little Liquid Wrench.
Come up here with us Yanks..we show ya
Yeah, drive up here at your own peril...y'all!
Thanks Eric! Nice job!
Rust! It make some repairs beg the question of "Do you really want to fix this?" Nice job Eric.
Ohhh we can do it but you make up the best jokes!! Missed your calling? Stand-up comic? Mrs. O is so nice. Won’t lie, kind of been binge watching, all good and have me laughing. Your made for fame!!😎😎😎
I had a 1982 GL wagon with that headlight in the middle. The design is the same 30 years later and mine used to eat up those rear bearings....it made it so LOUD! Subaru is JUNK! Always has been always will be.
Thanks for the videos Eric.
Another successful video Eric. Have a good one. Man that was one rusty rim. ❤️ Artie
You make great videos thanks for the knowledge and entertainment!
Best mechanic on youtube!! Amazing, they are not trying to censor you yet!!
I enjoyed the video Eric! You are the Bearing Stud king!! LOL! Great job! You make it look too easy.
That's quite involved for just a wheel bearing change. Nicely done sir!
Great video, learned alot..by far my favorite channel.
Another great one ! Enjoyed watching. Thanks
Hey Eric, great video and information as always!
Watched part 1 for the carnage and watching a master at work for future tips. Stayed in part 2 for the pure entertainment 😂
Agree on the diablo blades. Great pair of videos!
Great Video on the Subaru rust Bucket rear axle bearing job . That is why I have a G.M.C. 2015 Colorado . Have always bought American, only had 1 ford a 1963 Ford Falcon with a 6 and three on the tree . Really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.
When you get some snow, then some ice, then more snow all in one storm you look forward to some salt on the road. Then when spring comes around and you see the rust you get pissed they use so much salt. If the car wash advertises they recycle the water stay away from it, they will be blasting salt water into places you do not want salt water. People do not realize that may be all that person can afford and still get to work, hopefully she can get a safer car soon. You are a gentleman and have empathy for people, I am sure that is one reason Mrs. O loves you so much.
Actually, since the other shop couldn't do the job because of that one bolt, maybe there's a lesson learned here. Next time, she should take her vehicle straight to SMA to begin with and have the job done right! Fun to watch your repair videos even though I don't know what's going on sometimes, especially with the electrical systems and the maze of wires and what goes where, great job!
So glad I found this channel :)
Yay part tooooo, damn it's quite at sma in the mornin
Love the nuts and bolts episodes, keep em coming
As my granddaughter said when she was a baby: "Ta de dah!" It's finished!
rust there looks like junk parts here in the Midwest.
@@leereynolds2911 When I first moved from New York to Ohio in '81, I was amazed to see '60s cars on the roads.
Great job! 1st time watching this series. You also make it fun so- Yaaaa!!!! Learned a lot. Got to help my son with his 2002 WRX so we’ll see.
Love your videos ... Keep them coming
Great job Eric, looks great from my Armchair 🤗😂😜.
Keep me coming Dr O.
Thanks for sharing.
Another awesome video Mr! Thank you! 😊
