I think it's Aidan's finest hour and that's saying something. His absolute belief in the horse despite the disaster of the Guineas was extraordinary. Love Lydia's way of interviewing, so respectful and she really listens.
The rider of the second Ambiente Friendly, would never ride another horse of mine. He was sitting with plenty in hand 3 furlongs out. He left it too late. Ryan Moore always goes early and rode City of Troy out fully. He hit first run on Ambiente Friendly. I still think City of Troy would have won but the distance would have been less. Take nothing away from the winner, it is the genius of Aiden O’brian and the whole team that never fails.
I think they are genuinely trying to win the triple Crown. Its anyone's guess how achievable it is. There is great trainers like Karl Burke and Richard Hannon not just the usual top 3 to beat.
Well done all backers of City Of Troy. The one who goes by the name Martin Lewis will no doubt tell us he put two weeks worth of pocket money on City Of Troy.
Supposedly he was knocking all his trolls for 6, so I can't wait for him to repeat it here. Though it does get easy bantering him into the ground, so hope he has put some thought into it!
I listened to Aiden and Ryan after the 2000 and I thought if them two are still confident then so am I , I had my biggest ever bet on City of Troy and glad I kept faith
I was at Epsom , yes he is a special horse, but havlin had a double handful 2 out, he was reactive rather than proactive , and it was all too late. That’s the difference between top class jockey and run of the mill . That’s it really.
Ambiente Friendly finds very little once off the bridle. The ride was fine. He held on to him as long as possible because he;s such a lovely travelling type but he would never have won that race if they raced another 100 times
Amazing, what a great horse. In 1972 I had a bet Of my entire weeks wages (£16, now worth £250) on Bridgadier Gerrard to win his last but 1 race at 13 to 8 on. He won but he lost his next race to Roberto, I was lucky, what a greta horse BG was.
It really wasn't. Thats the horse he his. A beautiful traveller but finds very little when his button is pushed. The jockey rode the race as well as he could
It was way back in 1979 that I ever had my first ever horse 🐎 bet on a horse called troy 45 years later I had the winner today on a horse 🐎 called city of troy you couldn't make it up well I think now I'll call time on betting on the Darby cos it would be a nice fitting to and for of a great horse 🐎 race thank you for the memories 😊👍🏾
Absolutely Stunning. Not a Sea The Stars so needs to win an Arc and a Brreders cup.i bet Rob Havlin got a proper bollocking feet up reading Sundays Racing post one lump or two sir
Full credit to Aidan and the team successfully bring back more substances on the colt this time it looks physically complete different in the paddock from the guineas. More importantly smart enough to change the tactic of saving some energy behind a geuine pace to mitigate his disadvantage of racing style. Indeed I am more interested to know if Voyage can put some pressure on him with a jockey on it looks a really nice colt with great action.
I was a believer backed him heavy and won . Its easy just listen to Aidan he told us he was a special horse. I hope all the pundits who said he won't win listen to the man who knows OBRIEN next time.
Judging from COT’s performance in the last 100 yards at which he changed legs and kicking away, AF had no way to beat COT, but Rob’s reaction time was frankly too slow in any event. Imagine COT did not kick again and AF chased him and lost by a short head, there would be no excuse.
Ambiente Friendly travelled like a dream and while not really blaming Rab Havlin for the ride, he was sitting like a statue as if overly concerned about what the loose horse was doing, while Ryan Moore on City of Troy had already kicked for home and got first run on him.
I know so much can be said after hindsight, but if Rob Havlin had kicked for home at the 3 furlong mark he would have been in the lead and probably would have drifted slightly to the left, City Of Troy might have had to switch to his right.
@@johnmcintyre800 Moore had already started rowing away and was riding his finish while Havlin was contending with the loose horse, meaning Moore got first run on him. If you mean the second did not have the legs to peg back the winner after giving away that first run, then yes.
You don’t mind getting mocked off for a top jockey, but Rob Havlin . Gave the second the perfect Derby ride until the last 3 furlongs . What was he thinking. You can’t give cot 3 lengths start .
A good, deserved winner, but I would say that even though he stayed on the inside for most of the race he didn't have to deal with the loose horse who was a nuisance at the business end of the race. I didn't think it changed result but I think Ambiente Friendly would have been closer. I thought O'Brien gave a really good and interesting explanation for his performance in the guineas too.
Probably the best training performance we’re ever likely to see. The best derby performance we’re ever likely to see, the best quarter/half miler we’re ever likely to see.
I had him as my e/w long shot, …he raced for fun and even though he wasn’t carrying any weight he made up a lot of ground and had the will to win, he would definitely have placed. One to keep an eye on..
He stamps some of his progeny well. Someone paid over $2 million for a justify yearling the other day and it has the same distinctive grey-flecked tail as City as troy
2:04 Kind of reminded me of Pat Eddery on El Gran Senor in 84. I wonder how many attended this once great race? It pains me to say this but the Epsom Derby is going down the toilet.
I have conversations about this every year with family and friends. I use to love it when it was held on Wednesday's with the huge crowds. They moved it to Saturday to try to revive crowd numbers...it didn't work.
@@createbelief8678 Remember the figure of £58 million pounds that was being bandied about El Gran Senor going into the Derby?. After that never to be forgotten guineas win, and being by Northern Dancer one of the Kentucky stud farms was prepared to cough up that amount for him. He turned out to be a mediocre stallion with low fertility. The somewhat irony was Sadlers Wells would be the one who would become a truly great stallion, El Gran Senor had beaten him very easily as a 3 year old. Coolmore kept him and have never really looked back.
Voyage finished a length or so clear of City of Troy but had no jockey on his back. That means he had nine stone less to carry. I’d say City of Troy had around eight stone in hand...😀😀
Best horse on the day won. BUT OH my, a classic example from the second jockey of waiting for things to happen instead of making things happen. Moore galvanised his horse coming to the bottom of the hill. Havlin sitting still as Moore breezes past. AF had proven his stamina in the trial. When you are on a proven stayer you go for home and let the others chase you. The owners got what they deserved for sacking the trial winning jockey.

Mr havlin. On the second horse giving the winner 3 length first run what a bollocks not saying the second would a won but if he kicks first it would a been a lot closer
He's coming under some mild criticism in the Racing Post, missed it earlier and just revived it, he was centering three furlongs out and didn't let his horse down until City Of Troy had passed him, they reckon he should have kicked for home earlier, changing the Jockey hasn't done them any favours.
It never ceases to amaze me how Mickey Mouse gamblers rush to tell us how they backed the winner after a big race. Serious gamblers don't come on RUclips telling the world and his wife how they won 100k or 200k.
2 fingers up to all his critics …, city of troy was absolutely devastating there … it went wrong but he still won… what a class horse once moore got him in position the horse did the rest…. He just cut thru them a superb performance …
His sire, Justify, is the very recent but a little bit controversial US 3yo Triple Crown winner and has now become a pretty successful sire. Don't forget him as well and his stud fee would probably be further increased.
Um, not sure about all this genius adulation. He trains the odds on shot for the 2000 guineas, apparently the best horse he's ever had. It trails in almost last and Aidan admits he cocked up its preparation, then it runs properly next time and that makes him a genius.

Pretty remarkable that they sent City of Troy out for the lead in the Guineas & then in the Derby he settles in the back half before knifing through the field ala Sea the Stars; what did he get away at? 3-1 odds? Couldnt believe he went out to 8/1 for this after the blow out in the guineas. Even listening to AOB, he never waivered from saying the best 2 yr old he'd had and that he would bounce back stronger. The fact that he was always such a strong finisher and couldnt be pulled up you knew this longer distance be in his favour....cant believe people doubt him still....and 8/1 when nothing great in the race.....🎉

With over 400 Group n Grade 1 victories there can be no doubting Aidan O' Brien and his team.
He did everything right actually, no need to push the horse so early when he’s cruising. He would never have beaten COT anyway.
Aidan is so humble it’s almost ridiculous!
Don’t forget city of Troy was always gonna be aimed at the derby and even Aiden said the Guinness was a trial for the derby which was main aim .
I think they are genuinely trying to win the triple Crown.
Its anyone's guess how achievable it is.
There is great trainers like Karl Burke and Richard Hannon not just the usual top 3 to beat.

Also 100% agree about his greenness... he still looks very unsure of himself..... he could get even better.
Judging from COT’s performance in the last 100 yards at which he changed legs and kicking away, AF had no way to beat COT, but Rob’s reaction time was frankly too slow in any event. Imagine COT did not kick again and AF chased him and lost by a short head, there would be no excuse.
The best odds of city of Troy ever
Ambiente Friendly travelled like a dream and while not really blaming Rab Havlin for the ride, he was sitting like a statue as if overly concerned about what the loose horse was doing, while Ryan Moore on City of Troy had already kicked for home and got first run on him.
I know so much can be said after hindsight, but if Rob Havlin had kicked for home at the 3 furlong mark he would have been in the lead and probably would have drifted slightly to the left, City Of Troy might have had to switch to his right.

You don’t mind getting mocked off for a top jockey, but Rob Havlin . Gave the second the perfect Derby ride until the last 3 furlongs . What was he thinking. You can’t give cot 3 lengths start .

I bet the guy who fell off the horse who came in first is not happy. Wonderful run by City of Troy.
Best horse definitely won but but they should never have changed the jockey on Ambiente friendly, Havlin sitting motionless while Moore comes up the inside past him and gets first run, he should have went for it much earlier like how it won in the Lingfield trial
