Sea The Stars was the greatest horse ive ever seen.Won the 2000 guineas,The Derby and the Arc De Triomphe all in the same season.No other horse has ever done that.
Slip Anchor and Reference Point should have made the list. Both went "Wire to Wire". Slip Anchor won by 7 lengths in 1985. And Reference Point lead all the way in and repelled every challenge from start to finish and held on to win in 1987.
What Steve Cauthen did on Slip Anchor was very clever known he 100% stayed the Trip & the Reference Point ride he got the fractions right on him as he knew he would keep finding when asked. Steve was one of the greatest jockeys to ride in Britain. He was some jockey, after all you don't get to ride a great horse who wins you the Triple Crown at 18yrs old. They nicknamed him " The Kid " & he's the only jockey to win the Triple Crown in 2 different countries remember that horse "Oh So Sharp" 😂

Shergar trainer's one and only pre-race instructions to jockey 'make sure you don't get blocked in!' That was the only way he could have plausibly lost....
My top 10 would include Mill Reef,Golden Fleece,Nashwan and Nijinsky who in my opinion is the greatest of all time but its tough to argue with Shergar at #1

Mainly because of the run he unleashed from nowhere to win it, and the fact that I had been allowed to put 50p to win on him. 3 pounds was more money than I had ever had in my life. If anyone can find the video with the BBC Peter O'Sullivan commentary please point me to it. It really is one of my fondest childhood memories. My brother had been teasing me because Troy was at the back for most of the race. Just thinking about that, "Willie Carson storms to the front on Troy..." still brings tears to my eyes.

I have similar memories of successful bets from childhood as I was lucky enough to have had a father that would take me with him round the different race courses.

Absolutely agree. Sea-Bird ran on the bridle for all of the race save 100 yards in the last furlong. Just cruised to victory effortlessly.
Sea Bird was, in my opinion ,the greatest racehorse of the last 60 years. I've never seen anything to compare with him.
