2018: Masar’s win was the most emotional for me. I watched it live and saw how he “came alive” from the back to win 🏆 with a large gap… The close up videos from back in 2018 show clearly how he dug into the ground such that the grass was flying up from the ground If Massar had Wings of Eagles’s commentetor, it would have been clear how incredible his win truly was
Thomas Smith haha my mate was on it too, he was on it big ante post. He let us know about afterwards alright. Defo a confident celebration by Barzalona. Racing needs to return.
Marq LOECSTA Yes massively so, people not washing their hands and them same hands all over the fobt’s. This is my fave time of the year for sport - gutted.
Sea the stars was the best of the lot for me, in terms of ability. For strength in depth races, Wings of Eagles and, I think the Masar derby will hold up historically.....
@@thomassmith2227 I think you might find this video is for winners between the years of 2010-2019. Sea the Stars won the race in 2009. I can see your reasoning behind saying Sea the Stars was the best you saw but in saying that I've never really been overly enthused about the horse. I know he put together a supurb sequence of G1 wins but what real top class horses did he beat? Rip Van Winkle, Fame and Glory, Mastercraftsman, Conduit? He was also lucky to win the Coral Eclipse Stakes because as Rip Van Winkle was proceeding to really put the heat on in the final furlong Mick Kinane smacked him in the face with his whip and well and truly stopped the horse's momentum. In saying that his Arc win was truly out of the top drawer. And Masar was also top class before he got injured. He defeated a very talented horse in Roaring Lion and a somewhat overrated horse in Saxon Warrior in his Epsom Derby win. His win i suppose would hold up historically because of what Roaring Lion achieved later on in the season. Golden Horn was an awesome individual and right out of the top drawer especially on good ground. Not many horses would've won his Arc after drawing the carpark regarding his barrier draw. Workforce was absolutely top class too. He still holds the track and race record for 2400 metres at Epsom. He just hated Ascot for some reason and Wings of Eagles had a very good chance of being a very special animal had he not got injured after the Irish Derby. He defeated another beast in his derby by the name of Cracksman.
Not taking anything away from Pour Moi because he was a really nice colt, but I thought Treasure Beach was awfully unlucky to have gotten beaten in the 2011 renewal literally nailed right on the wire in the final dying strides after having overtaken stablemate Memphis Tennessee and Her Majesty's Carlton House in the stretch. The same Carlton House who'd been talked about leading up to Epsom as the horse everyone had to beat to win the Derby. Treasure Beach, during his 3YO campaign at least, certainly looked the part of a legit G1 horse. Before Epsom he'd out-dueled future King George & Coral-Eclipse winner, Nathaniel, by a whisker at Chester to win the G3 Chester Vase, which in my opinion is always a great Derby trial. Then after the narrow loss to Pour Moi at Epsom, he went on to win the G1 Irish Derby, followed by a trip to the states where he won the G1 Secretariat Stakes at Arlington Park.
He was unlucky he was 1 of those who never run a bad race always there about when I think of him I think of Highland reel. Sea the stars the best Derby winner when you look at who finished behind him fame and glory Irish Derby and ascot gold cup winner rip van winkle Royal ascot winner debussey Arlington million and kite Wood won in France and dubai and when you look at the arc win world class
Interesting to see what you could learn about those in hindsight. 1. If an O'Brien horse wins, that may well be their career best; 2. If a Gosden horse makes the first 3, let alone win, it's probably a weapon.
Seems like the O'Briens horses just always stay at the end with Galileo and Saddlers Wells bloodline. Sometimes you can forget what a unique track it is so great. It throws up wonderful finishes nearly like an Aintree. Im a flat fan so thats a compliment. What your hinting at is Gosden will have 1 super horse every few years where Coolmore and Godolphin will have multiple winners basically every week. But you know W. Haggas and some others been doing good stuff. Its kind of heating up. He has a few decent horses bought from Coolmore also winning.
Watching these back tells you one thing the winner is coming from the mid to back end of the field everytime anything with loads of pace in the first quarter put a line through it 💯💯
I don't mind it being run at 3, but they should be honest and say it's the equivalent of a novice jumps race at christmas. It's racing 2 year olds I'd ban. That's like under 11s football. And means there are jockeys sitting on the horses as yearlings which is dreadful.
Great horses you can not find every corner . Look at Absolutly Security - lost Kentucky derby win at 3 on the judge table and now with 4 he win a little 20 . Million Dollars race !!!
Totally agree with you Chris. Don't know if you follow the AUCTION sales, but the are are so many 2 yo hirses that have already been burnt out having been raced (sometimes), dozens of times. I saw a 2yo filly recently that had run 26 times.
RIP Highflier and C4 coverage. Great presenters and commentaries.
Still can’t get over the run by Wings of Eagles....breathtaking....still can’t believe he can win from there like that!!!!!
wooooooosh n wowwwwww
Even more incredible that his run through the field was stopped a few times!!!
That was a pretty good field he blew past too
Typical aiden o Brian con job
I take it it was a Galileo ? What a sire. Imagine racing without him!!!!
Excellent video mate
workforce looked like a rocket, amazingly, in the second colours

Pour moi was unreal. Great celebration.
I was on him, and was some finish. I thought he had won, but my eyes widened when I saw the photo 😳

Some ride that was watching it again from the start . Barzalona must have some bollocks on him .
Craig Haha he’s got so much confidence, he was pretty young back then.
pour moi, what a horse, shame injury denied us the chance to see him run again
Good one
Golden Horn, Workforce and Wings of Eagles the best winners over the last decade in my opinion.
Sea the stars was the best of the lot for me, in terms of ability. For strength in depth races, Wings of Eagles and, I think the Masar derby will hold up historically.....
Although I would say, both of those races were run at absolutely brutal pace.

Lets hope we get a 2020 version at some point!
It's been cancelled
It ended up being a bit naff didn't it haha, hope this year's Derby is better
I was screaming at the TV watching pour moi which I had £200 while on holiday in France.
Commander in chief was the best winner of the derby so far in my opinion
US ARMY RANGER UNLUCKIEST 2ND PLACE EVER..THE DISTANT HE LOST IN TRYING TO COME FORWARD AND DISTANCE HE WAS BEATEN BY
Given a terrible ride
@@brendanweldon9410 terrible horse.. nvr won again and was tried at every step, most distances .. very poor derby overall
Camelot and Australia stand out based on their Guineas runs and perhaps Roaring Lion 👌🐴🏆

Pour Moi was possibly the best finisher ever. Further back than Lammtarra

2019 a blanket covering the first 5. Would love to see them this year. Only Sir Dragonets third race. Won the vase in his second race.

How about little HYPERION who stood just over 15 hands. What about the flying grey Mahmoud. None of you look at past winners.
including 2005, only 6 derby winners are faster than 2020 winner, serpentine.
You could of backed wings of eagle's he won Chester vase great trial.

Frankie Detroit make racing look very exciting when riding winner
Wings of eagles best winner in the last 10 yrs with a clear run would have won further
