I remember that era well, as I just turned 78. What you called "petticoats" we referred to as "crenolines". They were multi-layered. Mother would always cut a layer out of mine. The pants looked very real to the era as did the dresses. The only thing which was out of place were the shoes. They would have been cute little flats w/ pointed toes or similar pump style heels. Good job. BTW, I also sew and began in 4-H at age 9. I am now in DAR and tailor Chanel-style suits and also evening clothes which I need for DAR activities.

Trousers are the hardest at the best of times but once you have the format fixed in your mind it’s so simple, I have made both male and female trousers there really is not much difference between them other than the hips and waist for women’s, men’s are much like sewing a tree trunk 😹😹 nice and straight, so that you were turning out a pair a day is brilliant considering it’s your first time. All the outfits looked great in the short amount of time that you had it all planed for.🤗🤗

I was in a dance school and we had three tailors that had to additionally specialise in dancing dresses because of the way they had to support dancers' moves that normally aren't considered in clothes (like they should fit the body on one hand so when you do all kinds of crazy figures the clothes stay on place but in the same time they should move when needed to highlight the movement).
    You did amazing job!

  • @OriginalAfrocentricDesignbyLis

Hello Bella Mae. You are fantastic. Great concept and execution! That was a lot of sewing all by yourself. I thought you would get some help sewing from your dancer friends and family. And those pants, along with everything else, are a dream come true. You knew you could do it and you did. We are impressed and pleased. Continue your good work.
    LOVE YOU 💋💋

Having been a costume designer for a small theater (read: no budget for extra seamstresses) I can absolutely relate to the stress and exhilaration of building a show from scratch. Much applause from this viewer! Also, love the new face decoration! It’s nice that Christians are getting accustomed to these so we don’t get the “looks” when we attend on Sundays. 😉

Well done! I know your pain and your success. For my major recent birthday (I wont say how old) i decided to hold a Hobbbit/Poldark/Outlander themed party. Now half of my friends are costumers - cool. But not LOTR fans, so thats ok. However the other half were not! But those that were not, were LOTR/Hobbit obsessed, so, i made LOTR costumes (ie; FULL blown clothing - NOT dress ups) for 11 men and 15 women. Thats front falls corduroy knee length pants, 18th C shitrs and waistcoats for the men, and rustic skirts, full white blouses complete with all fitted laced bodices. All made in 6 months. I didnt take many short cuts either...still hand stitched hems, felled seams for mens shirts. I developed a short cut for the hobbit pants, taking thrift cord pants and converting to front falls with a waist band to button braces to. By the end I had nailed all the few short cuts I would let myself take, but wished I had knew up front. Luckily my birthday is just before Xmas and Jan holidays I spent in bed..but it is fun!! well done.

Hi Bella! I love the costumes that you make! I really want to learn to sew, and I decided to start with a circle skirt. When letting it hang after sewing so that the fabric stretches out, and then cutting the hem, how do I cut the seams of the skirt without causing them to unravel? There wouldn't be any backstitch at that point.

Hi! I happen to be obsessed with the pleat that appears on the dark purple dress at minute 44.52 of the video. Does anyone know where I can find a tutorial or a pattern in order to replicate that part of the dress? Thank you so much. Bella, every time you finished a dress OR A TROUSER , I was mesmerized by the quality of them. You are absolutely incredible.

Boy howdy!! First of all, congratulations on getting them all made. I've made costumes, by myself, for plays, so I know how stressful it can be. There were many times when I wished I had had assistants to help do some of the things. I thinking you probably would have liked to have some assistants, too. I mean besides the animals and the baby. Granted they're cute, but they're not really helpful. If you decide to take on a job like this again I would strongly advise real assistants.
