    The fear is that the fun (of this sort) never ends ! Glad to see your kept out of trouble with it! Man needs an occupation.

      I've actually had very little mechanical fun (of the bad sort) on this truck. Its worth buying one that has all of that done already I think :)

    Impressive pump on the CAB do you have a video on that?

    • @NateVolk
      @NateVolk  3 года назад +1

      Maybe, I'll have to look at my notes when I get home after the holidays. It is a simple power up and power down hydraulic pump with its own reservoir, solenoids, and remote. It is 12v and was about $200 on amazon. The only other thing you need is a flow restrictor on the down side. If you go too fast, the ram under the cab will safety lock so that the cab can't fall. The flow restrictor is adjustable and lets you get the max down speed without triggering the safety mechanism.

    Nice air bags. Watched all your truck videos. You always say "If you have any questions..."
    So here's a couple:
    1. Is this frame torsion thing a real-world concern with mounting a box on these trucks, or is it more of a social media thing? You know how ideas can snowball. I've heard these trucks are actually fairly rigid. If it is a concern, could some structure be added between the frame rails to increase rigidity?
    2. What do you think would happen if somebody were to just get an aluminum refer box, throw down some rubber horse stall matting on the flat bed, and lash the thing down?

    • @NateVolk
      @NateVolk  3 года назад

      Happy to help!
      1. It depends on the box. If you have a fragile box (composite) you need to isolate it from the frame flex. There is very little flex in these relative to a mog or the like. There is some flex that you should deal with though. You could stiffen the frame (but see below).
      2. If your box is stiff, it will keep the frame from flexing. You'll lose some articulation in your suspension (meh). If you are going that route, just get some captured springs setup on the rails. Super easy, been done for years on trucks and exceedingly cheap.
      There are a lot of keyboard engineers. That's ok too. Honestly, anything that makes the frame flex that much, means I'm basically having an aneurysm in the cab due to the nature of what is going on. 99% of people will never be in a situation that makes that much of a difference. Spend the $ on a rear locker :)

      @@NateVolk - Yeah, thats kinda what I was thinking. It would be nice to preserve the truck in its present form as I think it'll be fun and useful, but also would be nice to plop a big box on the back when I want to go camping.
      Don't have a plan yet, but the wife and I were out in the mountains east of Puerto Vallarta the other day and she asked me if I thought we could drive the army truck to South America...

      @@MarcOppelt When I first bought this truck, it had a bed on the back from a troop carrier. In the bed the owner had a military box, he used that for shelter when camping with his kid. There's a guy on one of the facebook groups that has built jacks onto the side of his shelter, so he can drive out from under it when he wants to use it like a truck, much like a truck camper. Totally doable for sure. I'm not sure about south/cental america, but there are several people I have met that have driven slightly smaller rigs down there with ease. I would like to do that someday I think :)

    • @MarcOppelt
      @MarcOppelt 3 года назад

      @@NateVolk - You can drive right down to central Panama. Darien Gap is impassable, so you gotta ship it between there and Columbia. Expensive but doable. From there on there are it's all downhill...
      FYI - I winter in Mexico, in a village outside Vallarta. There are hundreds of miles of dirt road thru the mountains here in the state of Jalisco and also in southern Nyarit. Miles of coastline with nobody on the beach. People are nice and crime is relatively low. I can think of a hundred places to park an expo rig...
