- We often think of Julie Andrews as the prim nanny from Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music, but her personal path may have the greatest resemblance to one of her Broadway roles: Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady.
Andrews says she grew up “on the wrong side of the tracks” in a family strapped for cash during wartime, and her initial training as an actor was in the less than prestigious field of vaudeville. But right before opening night of her breakout role in The Boy Friend, it was producer Cy Feuer’s advice that we have to thank, in large part, for the level of excellence Andrews has brought to musical film and theater for generations. “Forget camp,” he told her. “Get real.”

I love this interview. I always feel I’m a close friend when I hear her in a good interview.
I think it’s because the two are friends to begin with. You can hear the affection and respect.
What a good interview! I'm listening to it after having read Julie's latest memoir where she wrote about everything she said here and it's so great hearing her telling the story in her own voice

So interesting! Sounds like two friends talking.
Wish this was longer and since he is friends with her I hoped he would have asked some interesting questions than the usually asked...nevertheless Julie always keeps it lively.
I thought he asked some nice questions. But mainly, it sounds like 2 friends just having a conversation over a cup of tea.
@@TheJulieAndrewsArchive the only new info which i found was that Blake was dating someone when they met at her house to discuss Darling Lili...she had mentioned they both were dating other ppl in the 1982 playboy magazine interview...i wonder who they were...Julie was rumoured to be dating John Calley obviously she had declined it saying they were just friends, no idea about Blake.
