Without getting too snobby about music, for me I think it's like a spectrum with pure classical music at one end and pure 3 minute pop music at the other end. PT / SW and others in the prog genre (Genesis, Yes, Rush, Floyd, etc) seem to effortlessly take classical music and make it universally more accessible to the masses with evocative, and meaningful lyrics which resonate with aspects of people's lives and imagination in equal measure. In a word, brilliant! Long may it continue.
Amen...he is amazing. I had tickets to see him in Asheville, North Carolina in December 2018 and a freak snow storm kept many away. Saddest day in recent memory...
I think, more than getting hold of amazing drummers, his music demands such amazing and wonderful drumming that any drummer that suits his requirements would have to be an amazing and very gifted drummer.
Steven Wilson is King with all the musicians being great but I think Adam Holzman on keyboards and Theo Travis on woodwinds are the 2 most underrated members of this band! *****Just Superb*****
I know, right? His playing is so tasteful. With SW bringing Guthrie and Kilminster on board after him, Niko hardly gets a mention, but he was so perfect for Steven's music.
Oh once in a while I learn how to smile Horses shadows and rain on stone No god here I'm sure This must be the cure For all this carrion and aimless drift Retreat from the begging And invites to the wedding Revelation means nothing here In time we forget our Need to devour All the stories of tortured souls Crawl into your arms Become the night forever Coiled and close, the moment froze Deform to form a star Here on earth together I got time to share and a well used stare This smile isn't pure Certain or sure Cold precision was never there The way we uncoil Return to the soil Flaws are everything and chaos reigns
Oh my god that outro... Marco's feel to it is just so beautiful, the melody brings me back to a time I never lived... I always end up in tears after that outro
Is it just me or is this solo underrated? In the studio version, it sounds exactly like a star transmuting into a black hole, and this version makes me think of the dying gasp of a supernova's brilliant glow
He came to NH7 Shillong dude... I saw him live....moving those fingers... Sang Routine, Ancestral, Lazarus, Postcard. He said...NH7 is said to be one of the most happiest fests in India...after that he said... "THIS TIME IT WONT BE"
Hahaha I saw him at Nh7 Pune. He said the same thing about Nh7 being called the Happiest Music Festival. Then he said: "I don't make happy music." Obsessed with Steven Wilson and his work.
Really Obsessed bro....He is one of the smartest players of all time.... the smart music he creates is really exceptional... And thats why it takes time to reach to his music...we need the smartness to absorb it...
Suyash J PT was the best concert I've seen. I'm 66 and started going to concerts in 1967 and have been to a lot of concerts. They are all amazing talented in PT.
omg!!!! music can't get better than this, Wilson has chosen all amazing musicians, they all know what they are doing, and working in perfect harmony with each other for perfectly woven out of this world music experience... such a such a shame it has only 150k views, I feel small commenting on wilson!! Love from India.
it is complex in such a pleasent way that not even a single piece feels extended beyond necessary and all notes seem to be in a perfect progression and then wilson voice and lyrics simply make you cry!! I'm amazed how this song employs all the instruments with such complex set up playing in such mind blowing harmony together!! EARGASM!!!
Why do so many people get nostalgic about Porcupine Tree, saying that Steven's solo material is so different? This song could have been on Lightbulb Sun if you aske me. And besides, Hand. Cannot. Erase. and The Raven that Refused to Sing are certainly different from PT, but are they worse? I think they might be even better. There's absolutely no reason to get nostalgic about Porcupine Tree. I'm sure Steven still has to write his best record.
+Vincent Jurg He said the same things. He couldn´t play the new stuff with PT. Why? I think he must go his own way on another level. The success gives him right.
Dude there is no problem with being nostalgic and it also just happens I doubt the people you are speaking about choose to be nostalgic about PT, although they do probably say PT is better when they really should be saying that they like PT more because it makes them nostalgic. I like PT more partly because of nostalgia and partly because Gavin is the best drummer I've ever heard but Marco is close 2nd and H.C.E. is also right under FoaBP to me.
This, an absolute masterpiece from one of the (formerly) underrated musicians of our time. Steven Wilson is undoubtedly one of the finest examples of true musical genius I have witnessed as of late; awesome band as well.
That outro, starting at 7:17.. Sounds like something Steven would have picked up from his exposure to Tel Aviv, and his blackfield days.. Dai rei rrai rrai rai rai rai rai rrai . Great heartfelt ending.
How the fuck is Niko Tsonev playing that solo?? Is he pinching the notes constantly? Artificial harmonics? Ebow? Figuring the notes out isn't tough but man, that wailing tone is impossible to recreate. What a gorgeous solo!!

What a beautiful song, and to think some of the shite out there with Cowell and his cohorts they sell bucket loads of records, just shows you how the market out there is full of idiots and scammers who know fuck all about music, it is all about looking good and computers making your choices. SW is a genius a term used lightly these days.
I think I've got an explanation for that. This is not music for the masses, ergo, it's hard to contaminate with dumbasses messing around. Instead, this beautiful piece of art demands a considerable degree of maturity and dementia for being authentically appreciated; we are lucky to be here feeding our deep and incomprehensible insanity with quality music. Cheers :)

Maybe a tiny bit snobby. Seems classical music would be accessible to "the masses," who have access to this music, wouldn't they?
Listening to this is like eating a superfood created in a lab with the best chefs in the world and has the best taste possible.
Possibly the prettiest outro I've ever heard, on a song. Just brilliant. Absolutely gorgeous.
This. I've been humming these two melodies the whole day. Beautiful
No argument there
Got to love Nick Beggs. Great musician and cool person
For me, this is the greatest song in the history of music. Steven you are a God! I'm in tears 😢😭😢
+Tony Burton Of course we do.
I agree, wilson is alien if not god!
what, seriously?
Pull yourself together man!
Calm the fuck down
Steven Wilson, I hope someday I get to meet you in person and thank you for making me a better person.
Are you still a better person or you went back to normal?
Did you meet him yet? How much better are you now?
You should try a zoom meeting. They’re really popular today in 2020.
Marco, jesteś genialny!!!
This song isn`t from this world. the piano intro alone is a masterpiece. Maybe the greatest song Steven Wilson has ever written.
Amen...he is amazing. I had tickets to see him in Asheville, North Carolina in December 2018 and a freak snow storm kept many away. Saddest day in recent memory...
Totalmente impecable la carrera del señor Steven Wilson. ¡Larga vida para él! ✨🍷
Steven has always had this weird (great) habit of getting hold of amazingly well gifted drummers.
I think, more than getting hold of amazing drummers, his music demands such amazing and wonderful drumming that any drummer that suits his requirements would have to be an amazing and very gifted drummer.
Totally agree!
He has the knack for just about everything .. musical wizard
Before they spontaneously combust...
I hope he gets Danny Carey, Virgil and Mike Portnoy to play for him
the intro reminds me of Keith Emerson's playing
Steven Wilson is King with all the musicians being great but I think Adam Holzman on keyboards and Theo Travis on woodwinds are the 2 most underrated members of this band! *****Just Superb*****
Adam Holzman's piano playing at the beginning is sheer beauty!
Dang - Niko's solo just breaks my heart. Every single time.
I know, right? His playing is so tasteful. With SW bringing Guthrie and Kilminster on board after him, Niko hardly gets a mention, but he was so perfect for Steven's music.
Yes, he was. I'm looking forward to his new solo album!
7:17...what a beautiful, brilliant outro...
Amazing song
It would be a dream come true if PT or Steven Wilson performs in India.....
exactly same but in Georgia :D
Vato Natroshvili and denmark xD
and PORTUGAL!
PT has performed in India once.. at Mood Indigo! I wasn't there :( Hope Steven comes to India soon
you must be judged! :D :D
The creativity of Steven Wilson is impressionnant.. her world of music is so large..
His
3:31 Marco is toying with cymbals
4:24 Funny Marco
7:59 after the fill, Marco has a " did you see what I did " face..
Really funny personality :))
maestro he is absolute maestro! like all the others in Steven's band. he's cutest :D drummer person and my favorite drummer after Gavin
He is getting there, but he misses too many rolls for my liking ...
I agree Joseph Bennett... he gets it done but not as melodic and precise as Gavin...
True. Gavin is on a whole other level. God I miss him playing with Steven and Porcupine Tree.
Marco is outstanding. but he is not Gavin.
I LOVE EVERYTHING STEVEN WILSON
Niko Tsonev with an unbelievable solo there. Makes me weak in the knees
Adam Holzman on keyboards is absolutely amazing.
Love his playing
Oh once in a while
I learn how to smile

This must be the cure
For all this carrion and aimless drift

Steven, you resonate with every inch of my soul.
I dont think I can ever relate to someone as much as I relate to you.
Love you, man.
Whenever I'm feeling down, I watch Marco's tasty drum fill at 7:59… and then I'm sad no more.
I'm glad people like you exist. I can't seem to find them...
a. h. i adore both comments! :D
;)
I watched it 4 before I read your comment. Tasteful fill indeed, deeply moving song.
Edward Via I know. I saw that fill too...
I think this is the most romantic song. I was so sure steven wilson does not convey love but this, if beauty was a song it'd be this song.
Let's all take a moment for niko tsonev's guitar solo! He is underrated as one of SW's session guitar players.
Oh my god that outro... Marco's feel to it is just so beautiful, the melody brings me back to a time I never lived... I always end up in tears after that outro
This was one of SW's songs that didn't grab my attention much when it first came out, but it's really grown on me.
Is it just me or is this solo underrated? In the studio version, it sounds exactly like a star transmuting into a black hole, and this version makes me think of the dying gasp of a supernova's brilliant glow
Wilson's solo on this kills me everytime. It's just beautiful.
He has such brilliant musicians playing with him, his own skill so often goes unnoticed plus he is always so damn humble. True renaissance musician.
He came to NH7 Shillong dude...
I saw him live....moving those fingers...
Sang Routine, Ancestral, Lazarus, Postcard.
He said...NH7 is said to be one of the most happiest fests in India...after that he said...

@@Sid2harth I was there too. I thought I was going to die from ecstasy when he played Dark Matter guitar solo.
Toured with him for those 10 days in India. Nothing in this world can top that feeling for me.
That was my first ever concert! Been hooked ever since! In this whirling dervish of a life, that is one of my best memories
Holy shit, that intro blew me away xD
Oh my... So much talent on one stage.
I saw this live and that Niko's solo was breathtaking... :)
Appreciate the damn flute player. He made the outro so very intense yet pretty.
i wish i can see him live someday
Suyash J
PT was the best concert I've seen. I'm 66 and started going to concerts in 1967 and have been to a lot of concerts. They are all amazing talented in PT.
He's touring again in 2020
This song makes me cry every time! Pure Eargasm!

The most beautiful love song ever written.
Agree❤

PT was good but SW solo work is on another level. More complex, more detailed, varied songwriting.
Hahahahah I bet that you changed your mind now after "to the bone" record !! don't you !!
The Magic of a Genius at work "Steven Wilson"...
This concert is fabulous from start to finish! Bravo!!
Thank you, Mr. Wilson!!!!!!!.........
Thank you for giving us this Steven.
Beautiful song, gorgeous guitar solo! I could listen to this one over and over.
Great music, new discovery for me
what brilliant melodies!!! its like a wonderful dream come true.........
This is much much more than just "amazing"
i JUST STOP WATCHING THIS ALL MUSICIANS ARE SUPER AMAZING JUST WOW !!! AND THANK YOU SO MUCH
Insanely talented.
This, an absolute masterpiece from one of the (formerly) underrated musicians of our time. Steven Wilson is undoubtedly one of the finest examples of true musical genius I have witnessed as of late; awesome band as well.
any sane description to this masterpiece would merely be an understatement to the amount of soul this song brings out. Gem of a song!
Waaaaah!!
This man is a genius and the whole band of musos are brilliant.
Great, now I need new pants!
That outro, starting at 7:17.. Sounds like something Steven would have picked up from his exposure to Tel Aviv, and his blackfield days.. Dai rei rrai rrai rai rai rai rai rrai . Great heartfelt ending.
6:57 to 7:01. The guitar wept!
Musical genius ! Thanks!
Another master piece by the master composer accompanying one heck of a band.
Una Canción Brillante!!
Hot damn! Just beautiful! All of it...
Steven always has great musicians. I love this song.
whos the that genius of a guitarist who made those unreal fills in the end?
+kiba vlood Niko Tsonev
+kiba vlood he played such a beautiful solo
Very under appreciated by Steven Wilson fans
Just fantastic
Great Song. Sorry to see that it is not on set list for HCE tour this year. Looking forward to 2 shows in LA in June 2015!!!
Amazing musical combination..really like it!
How the fuck is Niko Tsonev playing that solo?? Is he pinching the notes constantly? Artificial harmonics? Ebow? Figuring the notes out isn't tough but man, that wailing tone is impossible to recreate. What a gorgeous solo!!

doesn't that guitarist look exactly like Gavin Harrison /
He also reminds me of a young Ian Anderson.
