Beautiful CGI animation and excellent explanation. Now I get it. Thank you. 🏁
How unfortunate that the trim tab fails right at that moment, putting it in the perfect position to crash into the crowd.
That's how the universe works.... things happen by such a low chance that even winning the lottery is easier.
Sad what happened there....
Thank you for the explanation, been 9 years since this happened and may those who died rest peacefully.
(For those curious about the amount of people killed, I don’t know the exact number but it was at least 11 people including the pilot)
I saw a video of this very unfortunate crash. The trim tab can be clearly seen seperating from the elevator. Thank you for sharing this.
Never understand why they would put the course to turn approaching the stands instead of having the straight away go in front of the stands.
That would diminish, but obviously not guarantee that it wouldn't hit crowded areas. After that horrible accident in Europe involving the Italian aerobatic group, airshows ran aircraft parallel to the crowds, at least around here, anyway.
It's the nature of air-racing. It has to go near the crowds at some point. In this case it wouldn't have made any difference how the course was designed. The malfunction caused the pilot to g-LOC, and it was pitching up and out of control. So it may just as well have ended up in the middle of nowhere as opposed to the crowd line. Just bad luck and part of the risks of going to an airshow.
Indeed. If I'm not mistaken that's outlawed in Europe following Rammstein tragedy
So that spectators can see the airplanes going by at full speed. Very thrilling.
Any vehicle on the ground or air can l have a malfunction or operator error at any location. A loss any number of things that at that speed could cause accidents The 1955 Le Mans accident "race cars" happened on a straight away and killed over 83 people. Watch a few rally events where people crowd around the outside of sharp turns on dirt/ice and get mowed over all the time. The freedom to put yourself in dangers way.
Note to self. Do not get VIP seats at air races.
Pretty crazy how unlucky the people in the crowd were.
From the beginning of Ghost's dive to impact was ~5 seconds, maybe enough time for some victims to recognize their fate. Terrible.
I have a piece of aluminum from that crash. About the size of a business card and jagged with 3 rivets.
For what money would you sell it?
Or just a small scrap from it? I would like to donate this to some flight museum, it's a worthy piece of history.
I’ve seen a few videos from people who captured the crash on video and holy crap it is horrid. There was one video of a guy in the stands only about 30, maybe 40 feet from the impact zone, and it was terrifying. For those who don’t know, one of the reasons the trim broke off was from excessive modification to the plane. The pilot had modified the plane far beyond its limit.
Very well animation
Could happened in any place, and he crashed exactly into the VIP crowd?
Poor people, what a disaster...... 😞
Nah rich people
OK thank you 🙏 That makes sense
Kind of insane that it crashed right into the VIP section - talk about worst case scenario
I was there, i always scared when hear sound of plane after tragedi.
Excellent video.
Thanks
Those prop planes are brutal.. they be pullin almost 14g ,, especially at that high speed.. super sonic jets now a days be pulling 12g's .. gives u an idea how brutal it was
That's sad, it was definitely an accident
A bad day to go VIP
unfortunately
it just so unfortunate
bad idea for going over top crowds
Makes sense
"VIP" stand
Rip
DAAAMN !
Why name a plane that ?
It's just a name it sounds pretty cool
It's a race name. Like hot rods, ships, and so on.
They've got all sorts of weird names for their planes. Possibly related in some fashion to the airframe's backstory. Potentially also in a joking fashion.
You get for what you paid for. VIP access for the best views.
VIP.
No volume.
