Because of recent messages I've received from individuals trying to join the group and simply getting banned, and because of the unorthodox method by which they have you purchase these products through Facebook, I can no longer in good conscience, recommend them.
    I have personally been banned from their group, as well, for being publicly critical of their ordering process. I did this in the hopes that they would create a website, streamline their purchasing process, and make these awesome items accessible to everyone. This hobby is supposed to be fun and enjoyable for everyone around the world.
    I will not promote a product or products that are only accessible to a tiny group of select individuals.

    This episode is mostly about the anchor chain assemblies and some other items on the forecastle. I had a little trouble with ScaleDecks wooden deck, but, I'm going to make it work.

    Thanks for the info on the anchors. I am surprised about the Scale Decks issue, this is the first I have heard about that. In thinking of a solution for this, and I do agree with you in attempting a fix, however, the amount of rework is a little beyond the time and effort to correct it. It is a cascading set of items to fix. Each bollard, housing, and windlass have a specific border and each will have to adjusted. In the long run I would contact John at Scale Decks and request a new section. Enjoy your up coming Thanks Giving.

    Great video on the anchor furniture etc. Great for me to see this all going on long before I get there! Glad the KA comes out well too! Now the waterway on the forecastle can be done by cutting it away as you suggested. if possible keep that for reattachment later when you have filled in the gap. A while back I can remember seeing something that suggested that the forecastle waterway only started part way down each side from the bow. I have looked everywhere to try and find out a bit more about this! No luck so far!

    I am surprised that Scale Decks didn't contact you! They watch video of people using their products to see how they are doing! I got contacted once after one of my videos! I know what you mean about wanting to figure it out! I have done that too! To bad the Ponto's was to short! I actually like it better. There is simthing about painted metal apposed to painted plastic or 3d! It looks more real! Can't really go wrong based on the size! Lol great work bud!

    Great tips Ben. Your explanation of Scale Decks being off might be way I had trouble. I was working on a 1/350 and a lot of the deck fitting didn't line up.Then again it might have been me, first wood deck did. Thanks for the video.

    The texture on the 3d print might be layer lines, it's hard to print an object with multiple flat surfaces with out one side being at the wrong orientation to hide them.

    Hey guys, just realised that there is a PE parts for the forecastle waterways included in the KA kit at sheet Q parts 18 and 19. Also sheet R parts R13 and R14. This may help you avoid a whole load of grief with the deck woodwork cutting!!! See page 16 (top left) picture of the KA placement instructions!! 😉

  • @kipjackson6784
    @kipjackson6784 3 года назад +1

    Ben, I was curious as to how you removed the raised kit parts from that fore-deck thingie, whatever you call it. You did a masterful job flush-cutting everything off but I was hoping to see how you went about it.

    • @TheMidwestModelShop
      @TheMidwestModelShop  3 года назад

      Hey Kip! I just took my side cutters and laid them flush on the deck and snipped the parts off. Then I took a rounded exacto blade to scrape off the rest. Finally, if necessary, I sanded the area smooth. You can do it. Just pick a part near the edge to start with. 👍👍

  • @MrTraindriver1970

    Good luck in your intended patch of the deck. Don’t forget that resin is bad to breathe in so face masks are a minimum when using. I have the 3D pieces as well as all the other aftermarket stuff. My Q is when placed beside the KA part at the end with their chain installed it looks like there is a whole link going to the hawsepipe whereas the 3D part looks like a 1/2 printed link. What do you propose as a fix for this to extend into the hawsepipe?

    • @TheMidwestModelShop
      @TheMidwestModelShop  3 года назад

      So there’s actually a full link going into the hawse pipe. I just accidentally cut mine in half when removing it from the print supports. But I was okay with this because I realized I may have to move the whole assembly. If you have the whole link, then you’re committed to putting a hole in the deck. When it’s all painted up, I doubt anyone will notice the half link.

    Everything is looking pretty good. Sorry to hear that you had a problem with the scale decks. I guess once in a while you may get a lemon. I think this is the case with that. My concern would be, is this going to be an issue down the road, as you install the remaining deck pieces. I hope not. Have you done a test fit with your other pieces of the deck? Just curious, I would be concerned myself if there is going to be an ongoing problem here.

    • @TheMidwestModelShop
      @TheMidwestModelShop  3 года назад +1

      Well, this definitely means I have to establish a centerline down the deck and place pieces on that line. I may end up cutting parts out and using parts of the non upgrade deck to fix things. Or not. It’s still an evolving situation.
