- Absolutely every step is explained and demonstrated! I will show you how to install a storm door, and the one we're working with today is the Andersen/EMCO 400 Series from the Home Depot. I welcome your comments and questions. Thanks for watching.
Couldn’t have done it without this video…. And it still took a couple hours.
Same
This is a really good instructional video. It was well worth the nearly hour-long view. Clear camera angles, excellent sound and diction, doesn't skip over important things that he assumes you already know. I am installing two Emco doors for my mother and I studied the enclosed instructions but could barely get my mind around them. This is going to make it a lot easier.
Thanks for the note, Steven. Glad the video helped!
Excellent Video! The demonstrations align with the instructional booklet. Its amazing that he does this without an assistant. I helped my husband with this installation and it took us 2 hours just as he says in the video. If it wasn't for this video aligning with my learning style of reading from a book, and my husbands carpentry skills, our marriage might not have survived this door installation :) 5-Stars! Thank you!
Saving marriages, installing storm doors...all in a day's work! Thanks for watching the video!
This is a great video! Thank you so much. After buying the door at Home Depot like you, I was starting to feel like I needed to hire someone to hang it since the provided instructions left me with too many questions. However, upon finding you video, I will attempt the project myself today. Your generosity in taking the time to post this video has no doubt helped many!
I arrived at my rental house with the new door and started to read the instructions. I also thought I was going to hire someone so I loaded up the door and went home to read up and watch videos. This video gave me the confidence to go back.
using your video, I installed the exact same door today. Piece of cake.
Great job! I am always happy to read the directions so that other people don't have to!
Thank you!!!! The directions were totally confusing ... .a waste of time...,, then I found your video..., I didn’t touch the directions again...,,, finished my project like a real champ.... thanks to your very helpful tutoring!!!
Awesome! Glad to help, and thanks for the kind words!
I followed your instructional video to a T and put down the confusing written instructions. THANK YOU so much. What a great video. Yes it took longer but it's done right and looks great. I will be subscribing to see your other work videos. You were a blessing.
Thanks, Dan!
Thank you. I was able to install my storm door because your video was so helpful. I keep re watching it while I was installing it
Thanks, Nick! You made my day! It's been like 4 or 5 years, and I need to replace this door with a new one (wife's orders). I will have to re-watch the video myself, so I can remember how to install it!
They should pay you for this. Made the installation so much easier. Thank you!
John Moors you think the ads are just to annoy you?
This is an excellent installation video for the Emco 400 storm door. Thank you for your detailed, and comprehensive information, re: the various issues with installing a door like this. It with the printed instructions, made it much easier than just the printed instructions, which were hard to understand.
Thanks again.
Thank you, Mike.
Great Video - looked at it as a refresher (Did this model about 4 years ago) Appreciate the professionalism in the quality of the work. One thing I recalled that might be helpful - the door sweep - when pinching it - Just use a set of vise grips on each end - pinch it shut - Again: Thanks!
I bought this very same door at Home Depot and got as far as putting on the hinged side and figured I would look for a RUclips video on the full installation. This video was well done and showed me exactly how to finish it. Thank you. Also love the Ping hat!
Thanks, Jack.
I never comment on the Internet, but I felt I had to take a few moments to let you know that your video was extremely beneficial. I read all of the instructions and watched your video (a couple of times). I wanted to be very prepared before I installed the Emco 400 Storm Door this morning. The instructions were much easier to understand in conjunction with your video. I ran into my own issues with the door because my opening is 36 5/8" x 82 1/4". The door I purchased was a 36" x 80". I had to come up with some creative shimming to make the door look good and fit. But, your video made installing the door very easy. Thank you for taking the time to post the video.
Thank you, William, for the kind words. Glad you got the door installed successfully.
Good to watch it done once before doing it myself. Thanks for the video. Outstanding instruction.
My install went smooth as silk thanks to your vid. Thanks again.
This is an amazing how to, thank you so much, I am installing a this door for someone and it did not come with the English directional packet. I have done these before but every storm door is a little different. I just wanted to say thank you for making such a great video, it covers everything concisely, you are my hero. Saved my day, I can't say thank you enough!
Great to hear from you, Cam! Thanks for the kind words. Glad the video was of value to you!
Same here, no English instructions. I can read the French, but the pictures are on the English ones. I did get the instructions, but this was better.
Like you, I bought this door as a replacement. I was familiar the installation, but this kept me from having to learn French and Spanish or read!!!! It also gave me a reason to take breaks from the summer heat and watch you do the next step!!! Thanks a lot!!!! Very well done video!!
I did this job in February, so heat was not a problem! Ha ha! Glad the video helped you.
Bought the same door and appreciate the good details. I hear the roosters approval as well.
Thanks, Michael. Good luck with the installation.
Just installed my door , can not thank you enough for the vid. The instructions are a bit vague but you walk us through it.Thanks!!
Thanks for the note, and I'm glad the video was helpful to you.
I just watched this on Saturday morning and am about to go out and give it a shot. Will update. Thanks for the video.
I will be sitting here at my computer awaiting your report! Good luck!
@@Buckwsr Took about 3 hours. Had to add 3/4 inch strip to narrow the door way. Your video helped greatly. Thanks.
@@greggc8088 Thanks Gregg. Enjoy the new door.
Thank you! I was really having a hard time deciphering the instructions in the box, this really helped me out!
Thanks for watching the video. Glad it helped!
Thank you so much for this! I installed a similar door for the first time today and your video gave me the confidence I needed!

Very helpful video with good details. I don't know if anyone else noticed he's coffee cup by window got cricket print on it.
That mug was given to me by a friend from India. She knows I love coffee....and cricket!
Thank you so much it gave me clarity for some of the parts great video
Thank you so much. It made the process of the installation much easier. Except we ran I to frame problems as it was crooked. But Thank God my dad knows how to fix this and it's done. Once again thank you
Hey man I used your video to figure out the hinge the rest was pretty easy thank you!
Great video. Thx for taking the time. Made the door install way easier.
Great video. It took me twice as long as you because I'm right handed. 😁 thanks for sharing!
Great job! I have a couple of right-handed screwdrivers I no longer use, if you're interested....
I'm installing one tomorrow, thanks for the excellent video
Thank you so much!
Come put up a storm door for me! Excellent video with instructions. Thank you!!
DIY. Thank you Sir! Great step by step instruction video.

Good Job. Very helpful.
Thank you for the "How to" video, my doors has had it's days! and it's time to change them out.
We are really happy with our new storm door. Hope it works out well for you too.
2022! Your guide is excellent! Thanks!
Thank you, and good luck with the install!
Excellent video
Thank you! This was so helpful!
This really helped my hubby and me install our door! Thanks so much!
Good job! Thanks for the note. Glad the video helped.
Just did my Emco Series 400 door. Thanks for the video . It was very helpful .
Nice job! Thanks!
thank you tons for this video! we didn't have instructions for hanging and you video made everything a piece of cake
Thank you! Glad to help!
Thank you for making this video! I now have the confidence that I can do this install myself.
Great. Go for it! Thank you.
Nice job with your installation, thanks for showing us how to do this.
Very helpful video, not as easy for me to install mine. I had the 36in wide door bit a manufactured home and a little wider than 36in so had to get 1/2 inch shims for the door closing side. Your issue door may be to big my issue door a hair small. After install I can fit almost my whole had under the door after dropping the bottom piece as far down as possible. Do you know if a larger bottom piece is available? Will check with EMCO and HD to see if an extension or larger bottom piece available. Thanks again for the video!
This is a good video for its time period but some of the installation details have changed with the 2022 version of this door. Glad to say that the included instructions were excellently done and the the math sizing was dead on if you had to reframe your door opening in. However, the striker plate has to be shimmed about 1/8-" 1/4" if your opening is 36-1/4". I experimented using a few washers. This would be done when fitting the door handle. Note that if you are replacing a '36 inch door' in an older house, as I did, my old '36 door measured 36". This 36" door measures 35-1/2". My door opening was 37-1/2". HD had some 1x1x4' hardwood that was stronger and easier than layering lathing strips. That bought my opening dimension to 36-1/4, 1/8" within fitment specs. Hope this makes this job a little easier for the next person. One last thing if you need help, the 'HELP' contact number is over seas and they have no experience with the product, they just read off of a sheet. Find a corporate phone number in the states.
Thank you for the updates!
Great video, very helpful.
Thank you!
Question can I just take the hinge track and set it up against the side of the door jam and double check if the door will fit? I figure the door can't be longer than the actual track so if the track will fit with a little room to spare at the bottom then I can go ahead screw the holes and actually mount it to the door.
Thanks for the video! I got mine for $189! Plus it has a doggie door for my GSD. I think I got a deal
Very good video, just one thing did I miss where the gentleman put a level against the hinge side jam to make sure it was square and plum? so the door swings true, and I imagine that bottom sweep is going to wear pretty fast against the concrete and you're gonna have a little difficulty with a welcome mat, which it looks like there was 1 there before..
Thanks for the video I'm installing a similar door in the morning
Good luck to you on the install!
Lolol I’m glad I found this before I finished now I gotta remove some parts uh boy
Thanks for the tip
Thank you
I ended up using a 3/4 inch wood bit and it worked fine.
The wood bit work great
Roger, Roger. We have clearance Clarence. Awesome Airplane reference man! Lol.
What enables such a gentle latching at the end of the close phase? I know all about the tension adjustments.. they don't address the last bang-slam that my door undergoes, despite a normal closing speed up till that point. Yours seemed to go thru it nicely...
I think it's all about the quality of the door closer. Sometimes you can adjust them. Other times you just get lucky, or not....
Nice job thanks
Good job man, you rely help me thank you !!!
Thank you, Gideon!
they recommend this video at home depot
wait....seriously?
Nice, nice, nice job! So thorough and detailed. As a DIY'er a lot of this would be much more difficult for me (for instance, I'm short so I'm up and down a ladder where you can just stand in place). I'm sure - for that reason at least - it would take me much longer to do on my own. I have a question for you, please. I want to install a wood screen door off my kitchen which was recently renovated. The main door had to be a special order because it is 77.5" high, rather than 80" - because the top sill was as high as it could go (considering the ceiling/roof) in this 1903 addition. Anyway, I don't want to special order a storm door because of the expense (as you noted). Can I safely cut a premade 80" door if I take some from the top and some from the bottom so it appears even?
A wooden door would certainly be easier to cut than an aluminum one! You would have to evaluate how much you could safely trim off at the top and bottom. Thank you for the note and good luck.
@@Buckwsr Thanks again!
Your video presentation saved my bacon. The instructions that came with the EMCO/Anderson storm door kit were just horrible. There is no way it’s a two hour install.
I am hopeful that others will be lucky enough to watch your video. Many thanks!
Thanks, Rod. Glad you found the video useful.
You’re the man Buck!
Do these doors come out of the Box set up for right hand or left hand or are they all neutral
The door can be set-up for either right or left hand swing.
What is the long gray piece used for
Hey how E o i great the bottom glass window bk in?it fell out during install fact get bk in the slit at all.. any tips
what i learned from these doors, is to seal the bottom with silicone, to protect the particle board
That's a great tip. I recently installed another one of these doors, and I primed and painted the bottom edge before adding the bottom sweep...for the same reason as you mentioned. Thanks.
THANKS!!!
Thank you for the help you made it easy for me.
Hey, thanks for watching and commenting!!!
Thanks
Nice work.
Hey I’m at the part right before I install the door handle and strike plate etc.
I have a gap between my door and the side of the frame on the side of the door handle and i fear it is to much. Maybe half an inch? What should i do about this. I’ve thought about maybe taking off the right side of the frame so i could maybe add wood beneath it? I’m not sure. Do you have any recommendations??
You've probably already figured it out. There is room for play with the vertical pieces that mount up the side of the door jam. But if the gap is too big, you might need to use a wood strip to build it out a bit. I've done that once or twice....
When you’re attaching the hinge rail to the door, do you have an overhang on both ends? It says you should have 3/16” at the top, but mine has it on both ends...
Did it come with the insect screen? I just bought the same door and it says insect screen on the diagram but I’m not finding a screen in the box.
You've probably figured this out by now...but the screen is built-in to the door....as you lower the upper pane of glass, it pulls the screen down at the same time. It is an interesting set-up, and I hope it holds up well in the long haul. Thank you!
Is this considered a left or right swing? Thank you
I can't remember the exact terminology. But this storm door gives you the option to put the hinged side on either the left or right. Most storm doors are reversible like that.
Wow! Watching this in 2024 and that same door is now $341 at Home Depot. Unbelievable the price increase! Thanks for the Video!
Helped alot thanks
Francisco Torres Alah yrhamo
Why not leave the track attached to the side of the door then drill the rest of your pilot holes?
Helped me out , thanks...
I was about to throw on the towel..... the instructions book was confusing
Glad you got the job done! Thanks for watching the video.
Thank you!
Just bought this door today...let's see how it goes...
Good luck, and let me know how it goes!
He says Clearance Clarence, anyone catch this? Its from Airplane movie.
Awesome
when your installing a door you should show the full length on each metal strip so you know where it goes
Thank God for you. Those instructions were clearly made by someone who has never picked a hammer up in their life 😂
Thanks, Michael!
It works is all that matter to me
Thanks, great & helpful video tutorial. What's that Roosters name hehe?
Thanks for watching and commenting. My wife raises the chickens....I don't think she gives them names typically. There are probably a couple of roosters out there.....
On our farm when I was a boy we def named the roosters & some of the egg chickens. One of the roosters was absolutely retarded & would crow at 6pm daily... ;~)
When you went to drill the holes I thought you lined it up with the hole on the side and not with the metal piece.
And I messed up my door.
What can I do to fix it?
I don't really follow what you're describing, but if the door is messed up beyond repair, return it to Home Depot and start over with a new one.....
Maybe use a grinder on that rectangle of cement and grind it down a little.
Very cool idea. Thank you!
Your welcome.
That piece on the bottom of the door he was 'happy to find' is an adjustable sweep and is included with most every storm door I've bought. In this cae, removing it entirely might offer him the clearance he needs and eliminate the scraping sounds made by the rubber sweep dragging over the concrete,
Just raise the door up instead of cutting the door.
Now I see, the door jamb is set back from the brick about an inch. You could have made jamb extensions out of Azek and moved it up.
There's a door jam at the top...you can't just "raise the door up."
I enjoyed your content, a recommendation to you cut the movement of the camera so much made me dizzy.
Emco does not label these parts. They make these instructions and id rather see someone explaining it.
Great video very detailed. However this door is not for me. The hinge rail is too small. Needed to use shim for 36.5 " install. And that left nowhere for the outside screws to fasten rail to frame. Great video though. You are exactly correct on install .
I had same issue and had to put screws in on an angle to get to work with the half inch shim I used
