- South Africa has three cities that serve as capitals: Cape Town as the seat of Parliament, is the legislative capital; Pretoria, as the seat of the executive, is the administrative capital; and Bloemfontein, the seat of the Supreme Court of Appeal, is the judicial capital; meanwhile the Constitutional Court of South Africa sits in Johannesburg, the largest urban area in the country. So why 3 capital cities?

Do know what else they all have in common? THEY DO COMPARE TO JOHANNESBURG. For crying out loud, we all know Africa's richest city should be the capital of Africa's richest country. Unlike those three aforementioned cities, we are not a racist city, nor do we still hold on to the race politics post apartheid. Otherwise, thank you Risen Africa. Insightful content, im from South Africa but didn't know some of reasons. SA is a unique country owing to it racial past, we are by in large a polarized society.

Thanks a lot I understand know I always asked a question of my self why South Africa has several capitals? I think it’s good idea cause my country Somalia 🇸🇴 in 1960 there was 2 colonies who United British Somaliland and Italian Somaliland but the capital became Muqdisho Italian Somaliland, president came Italian Somaliland even prime minister and chief of military and that’s why today Somaliland says it was not equal and we wanna back our region as a country!

The Netherlands traditionally had 2 capitals, and every 2 years the official capital switched back and forth between Brussels and Amsterdam. Meanwhile, the king, government, courts and embassies were always located in The Hague.

Do not confuse South Africa a country and Southern Africa and a continental region which consist of South Africa, Zimbabwe, Angola, Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, Madagascar, Malawi and others.

From the twin island state of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago - Capital City - Port of Spain Trinidad; the capital of Tobago is Scarborough. The country carries Port of Spain as its official capital.
I love how the most praise this dude gave in the first two minutes to South Africa is that they were at least “having consistent elections” for about a century. Because that’s pretty much the only thing you could say for most of them

I agree, to an extent mate! The Europeans fought for control for different parts of the region but ultimately, it was decided to have the 3 major centers as capitals in a bid to spread control
