Growing Autoflowers | Ep.1 (Preparing Soil & Planting Seed)

  • A new series on growing autoflowering cannabis indoors is here! Today I show you how to mix a nutrient-rich soil and plant a germinated seed in a 5 gallon pot. Complex lighting is not necessarily needed right away, but I decided to set up my new Mars Hydro TS1000 light and prepare it for the seedling stage, which comes fast with autoflowers!
    I'm growing a strain called Banana Daddy which was made by Ethos genetics, thanks to a grower friend of mine who gave me a seed to try (as well as the soil)! We can hope to see this plant flower much sooner than a regular photoperiod plant, and hopefully with a great yield.
    Thanks for watching, and consider subscribing if you haven't already! Stay safe, and vibe on.

    Leave the soil level at least 2 inches low. As the seedling grows you can back fill to add support if it stretches too much. That will add to the root ball.

      I've seen online that coco coir needs calcium supplementation, while the soil I'm using already has it. I don't like having to add a bunch of stuff all the time so I'm happy with it 😅

    • @WildBill496

      When working with Coco it's best to buffer it with cal-mag before you use it.

    • @ZinfandelRed1914
      @ZinfandelRed1914 2 года назад

      I ran into that same problem first time using one of those all purpose type of fertilizer. Experienced grower told me everyone should have some Cal-Mag as a supplement and usually thats the one most growers turn the corner with. I keep it simple and go with 1ml per Liter. If you want to make your own calcium supplement, start keeping eggshells, a bit messy but inexpensive way, also some videos on youtube on how to use the eggshells.
      If Coco wasn't that expensive, I would use it again, but, no thanks, everything else has gotten too expensive!
      My upcoming experiment will be to grow cannabis in loose moss as medium, DWC hydroponic.

    • @novafiddler1712
      @novafiddler1712 2 года назад

      I grew in coco with gaia green and ended up with a cal-mag deficency. I caught it early with a weekly organic cal mag/photosynthesis plus/tribulus/1/2 tsp of unsulphured molasses and the deficency went away within a few days and it never came back.

    • @danwilkinson2797
      @danwilkinson2797 Год назад

      I would use all organic soil amendments and nutrition and canadian peat moss instead of coco. Doing this correctly will eliminate any nutrition def or disease or insect problem. I have found also doing it organic creates the best flavor and effect by far bringing out all of the plants hidden potential. No need to worry about ph or nutrition. It’s best let the plant decide what it needs and when witch can change slightly over-the period of a day undetected of course. If you want do the experiment grow one in coco and chemicals and the other with all the amendments and mycorrhizae Canadian peatmoss and see for your self. There are lots of videos on this method. it’s the way cannabis was meant to be grown and how all cannabis was grown until recently. Most people don’t know how much better it actually is because chemicals will grow big stinky strong plants those plants lack quality in the most important areas.

      I start doing this after the plant has developed a good root foundation, a few weeks into veg I'd say. There's no real steadfast rule, but maybe once the plant has 7-8+ nodes and is getting bushy. It'll tell you when it needs the water; it'll look soft and wilted

    • @SmokingBeaver

      You need a fan to pull air through the filter (out) and then a little oscillating fan for airflow. You don't need an intake fan for a small tent, the outtake fan will draw air through openings. I leave a small flap open to allow that airflow in, but as long as the outtake is capturing all the air it shouldn't smell (good filter too: amzn.to/3mYV575)

    Seems like you should mix the bloom with the bottom one half and the other with the top half and maybe a section of the blend in between.

    Hey bro, is there any particular reason you’re not using a humidity dome? Sorry if this is a stupid question I’m new and just starter learning the very very basics lol👍🏽…A lot of people create a small circle around the seed and give it 30-40ml of water and then spray the humidity dome and pop it over the top for 2weeks is this just 2 different ways of starting the seedling stage?🤔

    • @SmokingBeaver
      @SmokingBeaver  9 месяцев назад

      Using a humidity dome is best practice and I find it's more reliable for plant health. Not sure why I didn't here

    I planted seedlings in a big pot and they kinda stopped growing. Next time I’m going to use small biodegradable pots and the transplant, so the roots are not wet too much.

    • @Doobie603
      @Doobie603 2 года назад +2

      Good idea for photoperiods but not as good for autoflowers. I haven't had good luck transplanting autos they usually get transplant shock and that slows growth greatly effecting yields. I think your problem was overwatering. Where the seedlings thin and stretched?

    • @Doobie603
      @Doobie603 2 года назад +1

      Also might be a good idea to get a pot sized humidity dome. Until the seedlings hit the 2nd or 3rd node I water with a dropper in a circle around the seedling twice a day, keeping them under light and under the dome. If you don't have a humidity dome you can just use a milk jug or a coke bottle using the bottle opening and a piece of tape for the vent. Good Luck if you are still growing...

    I planted mine in a plant starter kit with 16 cups in it. I've put them in a rubber made box with my grow light made in the lid. I have a heat pad underneath it and I have the light set to blue and heat pad set on low. I've got 4 plants growing in it, but I've lost 1 of them already and I think I'm about to lose another one that's why I'm contacting you. The one that's trying to die on my is drooping over. I water them every day with water bought from the store in bottles. I don't want to lose anymore, so please help me if you don't care?

    There's alot of money in this setup for just one plant... Spend the Extra and get a bigger tent that light you have can easily run 6 plants under it if space allows, the auto flowers only grow between 10-100gs depending on the strain , your using more electric then your yielding

    • @SmokingBeaver
      @SmokingBeaver  2 года назад +1

      The tent and light were sent to me as part of a sponsorship, so lucked out with not having to spend too much (got a nice fan tho). The electricity was roughly calculated at like $13 a month

    • @SmokingBeaver
      @SmokingBeaver  2 года назад +1

      The big top fan is for venting out the weed-smell air and filtering the smell. It's an exhaust fan.
      The small fan is for circulating air within the tent and helping the plant build some strength.

    • @SmokingBeaver
      @SmokingBeaver  Год назад

      You don't need to soak the soil, as the really young plant doesn't like too much moisture. Just make sure it's damp where you plant the seed and that should be good enough
