- This weekend I went to see the 2014 Vernasca Silver Flag, a revival of the historic hillclimb Castell'Arquato-Vernasca. One of the best cars of the revival was this Matra MS11 F1 driven during the event by Henri Pescarolo. The car is moved by a 3.0L V12 engine which was able to produce around 400 bhp at 10000 rpm.

I love the F1 cars from this era, the sound, the look, no advertising all over it. Wonderful
Just manufacturers trying to compete, no corporate bullshit.
Love everything omg yessss
True that my brother F-1 IS THE BEST
Then Matra put slightly milder cams in a 3 liter and put it in a WEC car. Story from crew-member: between races, they topped off the fluids, cleaned it up, fired it up.
Man this is my first time hearing it and damn you're right about the song
The exhaust pipes are a work of art!
A 2 into 1 is impressive? 🤔
That's the best sounding thing I've heard in a long time
Great video! My first years as a motorsports photographer were when F1 ran at Long Beach, California. Of all the cars, the Matra was the one that was actually painful to hear. That was the Gitanes car, with the tall air-intake scoop. When it was on the track, everyone of us, from Bernard Cahier on down, grabbed earplugs. We loved it!
MS670C
Massive cringe when they pushed it into the door. But holy shit the sound makes up for it
I was yelling "look out!" at my computer screen. lol.
SpaceManDawn what car did it hit?
Steven Turner
Looked like an AC Cobra
Steven Turner Ginetta G4
looks like a etype jag. i was like wtf!>!
Looks like Henri still got it at 71. What a legend!
Amazing piece of equipment for its day; and from what I can recall from the 1968 F1 season, the Matra V12 was one of the slower entries in that competition year.
Man !!!! Those engine sounds like god ! Just after the gear change it's sounds like their screaming / roaring or I don't but the sound gives me chills
The equivalent of an old school Marshall stack!
Back in the day, you could always tell when a Matra was coming.
1:35 You sir did not come to a full and complete stop.
On peut remercier Matra et Henri Pescarolo de nous avoir fait vibrer de belle manière,ces voitures étaient magnifiques !!! Et quel son !
Love how everything was stickshift back in the old days
Kalel Pruitt still should be
still is in the uk
@@Pianoguy32 when I was in Brazil, I would say that to 1 automatic car, there were 60 manuals
No traction control, power steering and the clutch/manual, I would be frightened and thrilled at the same time
No it is not pleasant..
Not all clutches are the same. Some are not hard to keep engaged.. some have a tricky engagement point.. and it is another thing that can break, compared to auto
Thank you very much for sharing. The single most exciting sound from a F-1 engine I ever heard was from the 1971 Matra V-12. It was at the Questar Grand Prix at the now long gone Ontario Intl. Raceway in early 1971. That track had a very long front strait (the oval part of the course was built to precisely duplicate the Indianapolis Raceway oval) so the cars could wind up to pretty high revs. Ferrari and BRM were running 12 cylinder engines also but that Matra engine sound gave a person goose bumps when it went by. It would be great if you were ever able to find a recording of that engine running at high RPM’s. I don’t know if any of that years cars are still around but hopefully they are. In any case nice job and thank you again!
This the real sound of F1.
technically any sound f1 has is the reals sound...
SOCKS Sorry but V6 F1 are actually sounding like hair-dryers..
@@vico4981 Very original haha I'm laughing so much
@@vico4981 right ! when watching i let my TVR turn close ( sorry i don't have any v12 in my garage ^^^)
OMG the door of the cobra
My heart skiped a beat when I saw that the wheel going to hit it...
Triggerboy78
*Ginetta G4 actually
oh.. thx for the info
I almost died.
In a concourse event that would have been a huge deal, in my experience race car drivers are way more relaxed about those things, they are used to scrapes and dents and mirrors broken off in the heat of racing, so a tiny bump like that is no biggie.
Sickening door crunch at 1:58!
Sounds great though and love the wing.
Mike
Im sure a pair or two of underwear were thrown away later that night :p
That's why you close your doors when you walk away...
disgusting
Oh no.. the jag
Best sounding v12 I have heard yet! And that's just off my iPhone's speaker!!!!!!
What a car and what a sound! Great driven by Henry as well. Thanks for uploading.
No problem! Thank you for your comment!
Except for the two or three misshifts...
+Bart den Hartog those make it better
+Peter Pretorius Car is 47 years old and it STILL wants to drive ... fast :D
It was easy to misshift those F1 cars of that era. I read of several races where DNFs were due to misshifts.
I recall the Matra V12 as being the best sounding engine, ever!
I watched this car race at Kyalami in the late sixties. When one could attend a F1 race without the need to obtain a bank loan. This was for me the best sounding F1 car ever.
A Maserati 250f or the alfa romeo alfetta
The formula 1 cars of the 60's and 70's were just awesome in sight and sound - despite being so dangerous for the driver.
What a fantastique sound, second only to a V16 BRM.
Absolute eargasm. Have put the link to this video in a comment on my channel in a matra video.
amazing impressive. i love that race cars! the sound have no comparission with actual f1. the old ones had a serious sound
Diego Martin
amazingly* those race cars* comparison* (the sound they produce can't be compared with actual f1 cars.)*
You should try taking middle school English.
Well guess you follow your name
Almost tore the door off that cobra.
The american car feared the french monster Matra. Salut!
1:54 James May moment.
Crazy to see the original driver drive the car in his 70s.
I hope you've got a lot more of this event! It reminds me of the mille miglia. Lovely vid. Just porn
Yes, I have, not many things but something more yes ;)
Thank you!
Macchina, video, audio tutto al top.hai racchiuso in pochi minuti l essenza della vera F1..Bravo.
Simply fantastic! Thanks to all people for saving such and other icons.
Driving a beast like this at its limits will bring any man closer to God for the experience.
3.0 liter, 400 HP @ 12,000 rpm, what a machine!!!
That's a wet dream! OMG! Those old cars sound beautiful! I Symphony of cylinders. Ear candy!
Apparently this engine made 530bhp in Quali trim the last tear it was used.
Many thanks to you ; such an incredible sound !!! - Great vids. I always have a great pleasure to watch your vids !
Awesome car and an even more awesome sound! Hope the cardoor he hit wasn't too damaged ;)
Nooo la portiera a 1:56 !! :-I
Comunque video spettacolare come sempre, e super sound questa Matra.. ;P
Che pirla :D
Ma sai che finchè non l'ha colpita non mi ero accorto di nulla nemmeno io (ed ero lì dietro da 2 minuti buoni)
Grazie! ;)
***** Che macchina ha colpito?
yurixruz Una Ginetta G4
The sound makes my spine tingle...
fantastica!!!
2:33 Man you can see the whole rear lift up when it’s throttle-off to shift.
The real Formula 1 sound
Needless to say that this Matra MS11 F1 V12 is totally awesome, and I like to mention that I really like those bullet side view mirrors, which is addictive of that era!
Awesome. Back when F1 cars were cool.
Love the 12 into 6 exhaust.
I'm rating this second only to the BRM V16 among engine sounds that have most astounded me. The BRM is even louder, but also musical and varied. However, for pure and sustained aggression, nothing comes close to this. And that start-up? Like a gun-shot to the gut!
And the rating for the 1960s V 12 Honda's ? You Tube
HONDA F1 RA272 1965 1.5L V12 NA SOUND plus HONDA F1 RA300 1965
3.0L V12 NA SOUND but for me the sound of Honda was the bikes
like HONDA 125 5 CYLINDER AT GOODWOOD FOS 2002 but still the 2 strokes won , And when old man Soichiro was no more Honda done what
he said they never would HONDA GRRR bet he's spinning at 22 k over that
What a look...what a sound....just masterpiece
Love the sound and looks of that Matra awesome would love to get my daily driver to sound like that
For a second, just close your eyes and imagine about a dozen or so of those cars w/their beast of engines. Now think of sitting in the stands and hearing them come screaming down the start/finish line....😍😍😍
so much better then the shit v6 sounds on the f1 these days :/
Pretty much everything sounds better than these V6 hair-dryer...
Exactly ;)
Scaffold pole exhausts! Awesome
That exhaust setup is insane
"I hope no one saw that 20 grand fail"...
Same frequency and harmonics of the Honda six bikes. Causes goosebumps. WOW
Best sound ever heared
This and B group Audi Quattro are best engine sounds ever...
@@MIKROBI219 F1 V12 McLaren Honda, F1 V12 1995 Ferrari, F1 Ferrari F2004
Magnificent sound. Look at that exhaust system!!!
Simply Wonderful ROAR !
added to my christmas wish list
love the old f1 one cars as well as the old racecars
Wow meravigliosa!! Grazie per il video
Grazie a te per il commento! :)
I have always loved the look of those cars.
It is The Power !
Fantastic!! The best sounding engine ever! Period. Closely followed by the Austin Rover V6 in the Metro 6R4.
Damn that car is loud
BelgiumCarChannel they all were todays f1 boring
Hermoso sonido de motor! Hermoso F1
excellente video, comme toujours !!! Bravo ! Continue de nous régaler...
1:56 fuckkkkk
Lijevi Desni that was close .................
I really understand my older brother. This was a great race era . F1 since 2014 is just a spot on the F1 sound heaven !!!!!! Beside that, 1,6 l engine ; what´s next 3 cylinder VW Polo engine? thank´s Bernie.....
When Matra was starting to build engines, this Matra V12 really sound very mesmering
Wow. Just, wow.
The Matras are about the only thing that can compete with the noise-making abilities of the Gioacchino Colombo based masterpieces.
what beautiful noise !!! Thunder and Hell .
love the sound on over run. Beautiful engine.
13 eco-mentalist Prius drivers!!!!
They run on methanol.
Back from the days when F1 races were run on public roads instead of closed circuits. The killing years.
Yes, they were deadly times, but they were the best times also. Safe cars with engines like this, tracks like Spa...perfect racing! Alas, it will probably never happen...
"The Golden Age of F1!
Who was the fool that left a door open? GREAT sound Bozz!!
quelle merveille ! merci 19Bozzy92 !
#vernascasilverflag2014 #matrams11 #matraf1
Hhuu
***** Fuck !!!!!!!!!! Wow !!!!!!
Aside from Mazda 787, best souding car ever made.
Good to see him not scared to give it some beans! Were the flag marshals trying to slow him down? Looked like he was on mission to win a GP!
What a gorgeous sound !! Gorgeous exhaust system - gorgeous F1 car. So B E A U T I F U L.
Back in the days when F1 cars were men!
RevZafod that comment makes no sense, even though I know what you meant.
Lol! Nice. Now they turnin into gender confused feminists
Absolutely right on !!!
@RevZafod because you've driven F1 and you know what it's like
@@daos3300 Didn't drive F1, but drove my 2009 Nissan GT-R on the Austin F1 track.
ruclips.net/video/4nqaWZIQ2E8/видео.html
phenomenal piece of engineering
Video bellissimo sound da paura !!!! Per me il vero sound dei motori da f1
These 60's/70's F1 cars were everything but save. In fact, the possibility of being killed in them while driving them was always with you, but from an aesthetic point of view: what an awesome sight & sound! Nothing today comes even close.
Magique ce son du V12, une autre époque 😊
Gran voce questo motore,,,, fantastico!
Damn! They need to play this over ALL modern F1 races. If I hadn't been 4 yo at the time, I would have been GLUED to any broadcast of this! Modern F1 is like Indy Car and NASCAR. Cookie cutter cars AND drivers...This is an eargasm...
Ladies and gentleman, dear future generations. This is how a racecar sounds like. No downsizing dsg whatever shit. Pure sound!
Very nice Bozzy!! Great little video. Cheers. The only little snag is: Pesca never raced this Car.......
+Luckey MadRacer Thank you! He did during this event/video ;)
*****
True!!! Tell Pesca to go a bit faster next time! He is such a great Pilote after all.
Of course he did, thrice in 1968. Look for information before talking next time, buddy.
Wow, is it his first time driving a manual? This guy shifts like a boss.....
Made for me! I was born in 1968. ^^
'64 for me. I wish I had been older then. I woulda said 'screw hotwheels!'
What a beautifully magnificent machine!
The sound gave me goosebumps
One of the best ever.
This is the first version of matra engine with angle in intake pipes.
Power of this first versions was 395 hp
Outstanding french V12.
Magnifique V12.
A true old school race engine, car or bike, smokes a little oil, loose rings for good old power!
What a sound !!!!
omg dude! that fucking moment !1:56
Uno degli scarichi più belli!!!
Music to my ears.
What a beauty!
