Heading east we have steel blooms for BSc Skinningrove and finished products heading for Tees Dock plus empties. Heading west we have the Corby cooks and steel blooms and the finished products from Skinningrove.

Well done, Malcolm and Phil! A true Blast From The Past! I thought I recognized the Middlesbrough transporter bridge in the background.

The viaduct at around the 14:30 was built for the potash traffic. After the line to Loftus was closed the railway was removed slong with the embankment it used to carry. This allowed the removal of a sharp bend in the road to be removed (well its still there but now is part of the layby in the mid-ground). As Boulby mine in just within the bound of the National Park there were severe limits put on lorry movements to and from the mine, hence the viaduct. Today we can't get a new railway built as our politicians are too short sighted.
The 2nd train across the viaduct consisted of the rebuilt original bogie covhops (they lost their power operated lids). The final train has a few of the 2nd generation covhops. If you'd been filming here in the mid to late 1980s you would have also seen a greater variety of wagons on the potash services including ex-ICI urea covhops, 4 wheel and bogie container flats of TOPS Code PFA and container flats carry Cobra containers including those used for the coke trains to Wakefield used for rock salt and closed ones for potash, and freighterliner container sets.

Nothing sounds like a 37 be it English Electric Ruston or mirrlees engined. Some top notch thrash.also great to see other classes featured.

The class 143 were on borrowed time in the region. Soon they would be heading to the south west and south Wales.
