THANK YOU for getting right to it! This was enormously helpful. I get frustrated with the guys that spend the first 10 minutes of their lesson talking ABOUT the song, the artist, and the meaning of the universe. Officially subscribing.
Thats because you're always in a rush and have no patience, if you dont have much time in your day you are obviously failing miserably in life, I couldn't think of anything worse than having to keep worrying about the time, living life like a slave, no wonder everyone's on prescription drugs, I guarantee you have high blood pressure and can't get it up in the bedroom. Why don't you use that little brain of yours and get yourself a job that gives you more time for you and the family, maybe work from home or start your own business up, then you might be able to listen to the first five min of someone telling you about the song they are going to teach you on youtube, one more thing, if you think your wife loves you more for working every hour to cover the bills, think again, your the typical type of guy that gets cheated on, hope this helps with your future.
Every time I look for a more difficult song that everyone seems to have tabbed incorrectly, your lessons pop up. And every time I think - AWESOME, this dude knows what he's doing and I am good to go knowing that you'll show me how to play it without capos and unplayable chords and all that fun stuff. Thanks man.
I'll be honest with you. When i first watched your videos i thought you don't really explain them that well. But after playing guitar for a while i realize you are teaching for more intermediate players and might i say I have learnt so much from your videos. Some of the best most accurate videos on youtube thank you!
Thanks for this. I love how on Tim Pierce's channel he has a vid about how he played the guitar on that track, including that haunting bar dive effect on the Ebsus2 going into a couple of the verses. Great stuff, great song.
Carl, thanks for making this much easier to learn. Been struggling with some of the small details on this epically gorgeous song. Great teaching style. You straight up rock, Sir.
Having to replay it a ton of times because these sus chords and all that are new and we are moving through very quickly but I very much appreciate you taking the time!
Carl, I'm one of your monthly auto-donators and I'm always profoundly grateful for your meticulous faithfulness to each song. Thanks for all of your hard work on this song, it saved me many hours and I still wouldn't have it as good as you. Btw, one can capo on the 3rd fret and still have the exact chords, and it gives the hand a rest from bar chords on 3 separate chords.Respectfully,Hooch
Great job. Only hoped you would have mentioned the change in the first two bass notes of the last chorus after the solo section. It is so powerful as it goes deeper than the usual chorus base and really gives the song a sense of tension release. But again, your lesson is extremely accurate, like you wrote it yourself.
thx for the lesson on this one Carl....unfortunately my wifes dad died and this song reminds her of him so I wanted to learn it for her as a tribute....thx again
A great excuse to learn bar chords is to be able to play any chord variation in multiple positions all over the neck. Look up an intro to CAGED and watch your playing explode.
Great job, thank you. I noticed CH were using capos 3rd fret to play as if its in “C”, you get more open strings = more “jangle” barre chords wouldn’t be necessary.
Ah......thanks for this! I watched a lesson earlier and the guy was great but, he way over-complicated it. I'm no novice at playing guitar but, I didn't even understand what he was trying to accomplish. This is a GREAT lesson that is thoroughly broken down and easily understood. Thanks! (oh and subscribed!)
Thanks Carl. Always liked this song and huge Neil Finn fan (have seen at least 7 times either solo or with CH) I figured out the basics pretty early on, but could never quite get the solo, so sure appreciate your help with this.
do "by the way" -RHCP Great exercise to learn bar chords, thanks Carl, best teacher in the RUclips Carl, I've always loved this song. Thanks so much for putting it out here.
This is a great tutorial, but I’m wondering if the strumming is 100% right for the intro. Watch Neil Finn live and you’ll see he maintains a continuous strum pattern with no pauses, and with some subtle ghost strums. It’s more noticeable in live recordings, but I think the ghost strumming is even present on the studio recording.
Suggestion: I have a slow down app and played the chord at the end of the first verse. It sounds closer playing C and G on the 4th and 5th strings. Other than that, its a great lesson.
That really sounds good as well. I just got back into playing guitar 2 years ago and this song would drive me crazy trying to get it to sound good without muted string from awful bare chords. I have improved on them over time and can actually make this song sound tolerable. Definitely a great hand strengthening strong
GOOD STUFF. IF...U Look up "Ultimate Guitar".....what are they "DREAMING" About "Csus5 or A5 or whatever....this is right on. Did U learn it by ear or did someone or somewhere teach you,,,,just wondering. Right on the chord, exactly. I will learn it for one of my favorite tune for decades. Grew up in Beatles stuff and their other hit, "It's Only Natural" aka There goes the neighborhood movie theme song. Anyway thanks.
Man, I have an electric guitar with heavy gauge strings - it's my first guitar too. The previous owner said he played a lot of heavy metal. It was so hard for me to do solos with these heavy strings - but Im so used to playing them that when I played with normal strings, it was waaayy too thin for me to adapt.
Perhaps an odd question but what is the exact strumming patten once you hit the verse where the vocals come in? I'm playing what I *think* you are but I feel like there is a subtle difference (which may well just be the inferiority of my guitar and amp!) Just keen on knowing that I am definitely playing it correctly
One of the greatest songs from the 80's
My wife would agree with you. It's one of her favorites.
THANK YOU for getting right to it! This was enormously helpful. I get frustrated with the guys that spend the first 10 minutes of their lesson talking ABOUT the song, the artist, and the meaning of the universe. Officially subscribing.
dude, which one?you make me want to watch it
I know the exact guy your talking about...
@@DioHenda Theres this guy called "shut up and play" which is quite ironic bevcause thats what he never does...
This! 👏👏👏

Always refreshing for me to hear a chord progression that’s out of the ordinary, and, even better…beautiful !!
Sus2 chords are simply divine.

Love this chord progression. Like a fine wine, you just roll with it.

you have tutorials for all the songs I love 💗 thanks :) I'll be learning this for sure 🤓🤓
Wow! I didn’t realise you had taught this one. You truly are the best. I’m going to have a swing at it on my acoustic.

Best lesson for this song by a long shot

Love your lessons, man! Thank you. You’re definitely high among the best teachers out there.
Thanks Carl, I've visited a half dozen good sites while trying to earn guitar but only one is
consistently excellent, coherent and correct. Yours !!

Tim Pierce (Studio Legend) plays that brilliant reverb- drenched guitar solo! He has an amazing video sharing his experience. 🎸🎵🎶🎸❤❤❤😎😎😎
I want to learn the guitar just to play this song.
How's the guitar playing going
Did it work
I DID FOR THE SAME REASON
Fucking great reason 😄👌🏼
Always loved that solo part 😌could play it all day long on repeat as specialy the first double stop part 😂
I have to learn this, my dog just howls non stop when it plays on radio.
Excellent tutorial, thank you so much.

Thank you for that well-made lesson!
Love 80's song and your good teaching
never knew you did this one, I learned another version of it using capo. Thanks!!
thanks a lot. the solo was an important part of it
Thanks Carl. Always liked this song and huge Neil Finn fan (have seen at least 7 times either solo or with CH) I figured out the basics pretty early on, but could never quite get the solo, so sure appreciate your help with this.

amazing song and amazing lesson
Great video as always
Awesome lesson like usual Carl, if you're looking for another song to add to your SRV playlist Riviera paradise would be fantastic

Thank you for this, I really appreciate your help!
You got it spot on.
With a capo on 3. Chords are Cdim7
Am, F, E, Esus. Maybe just a tad easier to play for a beginner. IMO

@@Caltops78 that video I mentioned is from New Zealand with strings.
VERY GOOD! NICE JOB...
In the chorus, after Ab to Bb you play the Ebsus2 again....are you sure its not simply an Ebmajor chord? Either way, great lesson.
Awesome guitar lesson!!! Thank you very much!!!
thanks for the solo!
Awesome lesson! Been wanting to learn this song for ages now - and you showed it so well!
Thanks Big Dog I really enjoyed this lesson

Very helpful. Thank you!
Thank you! :)
Great song. Thanks!
Great video Carl! Do you think it's possible to transpose it to Ab? Been struggling with it. Please let me know if you can help.
Ok, so I just dropped it two frets to a D, which makes the vocal note for the chorus reachable.
thank you
Thanks Man!
Is there a fill we can do at the beginning to compensate for the bass?
Do you have this tabbed out in pdf and available for purchase? Thanks!!
I forgot. There is a video of Finn on you tube. W, a capo on 3rd fret. I don't know how to add a link but it's easily found.
Omg Carl tnx for this lesson!!!
Very Nice, Fella.
It’s killing my hand!!
Try this on an acoustic with heavy gauge strings. :)

Awesome thank you!!!!!
How come all other tutorials use a capo? I dont have one nor have I ever used them so I'm good. Just wondering. I like this version more
What are the rhythm guitar chords if not playing the solo though?
Great for practicing bar chords
Barre.
Meh
Hey carl what is your tool to transcribe tunes or songs and guitar parts.
Great song, easy to play but hard to sing and play at the same time for my brain, because of the syncopated feeling.
Fred Payette i feel u bro
Same...
Fred Payette You have focus on either playing or singing. It’s always a challenge. Same with left hand right hand on piano.
is the solo played over the chorus chords?
carl can you do a lesson of march of the black queen by queen
excelente muy bien
Can you also play this on acoustic?
I enjoy the G to Gsus4!
Hi, which are the chords for the whole intro?
So is this in E or C?
Is there a reason you don't use a capo like so many other people that do Play this song
Hey Carl, Beast of Burden by the Stones would be a cool lesson
